Author Biographies

Manoel Rios holds a PhD in Sport Sciences from the Faculty of Sport, University of Porto (Portugal), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT/PT, 2021–2024). He also holds a Master's degree in Physical Activity and Health from the same institution. Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Sport and Education – Jean Piaget Polytechnic Institute of the North (Portugal). He also collaborates externally with the Centre for Research, Education, Innovation and Intervention in Sport (CIFI2D) and the Porto Biomechanics Laboratory (LABIOMEP). His academic and professional activity is focused on medical and health sciences, with a particular emphasis on sport sciences. His research interests include the biophysical characterization of athletes, particularly in relation to energy availability and utilization in both cyclic (e.g., swimming, running and rowing) and acyclic sports (e.g., CrossFit and Hyrox). He is particularly dedicated to: (i) determining athletes’ bioenergetic profiles and understanding the kinetics of oxygen consumption and lactate production to assess movement energy cost and define exercise economy profiles across different performance levels and genders; and (ii) investigating the relationship between physiological parameters and biomechanical variables, especially kinematic factors, as well as kinetic variables and muscular activity.
