Prim. Dr. Mladen J. Kočica is Deputy Director and Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the UC Clinical Centre of Serbia, Clinic for Cardiac Surgery, University of Belgrade. He completed his PhD studies in Cardiac Surgery at the Medical Faculty University of Belgrade and has been awarded "The Annual Award for the best doctoral dissertation at UC Belgrade “, the "St. Archangel Gabriel Medal for the achievements in medicine and cardiac surgery”, and the “Plaque for the contributions in scientific and research activities” from the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts. He has published 42 papers in various journals serving as a member of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, the European Society for Cardiology WG for Cardiovascular Surgery, the Serbian Academy for Science and Arts, and the Board for Cardiovascular Pathology, as well as an investigator in Research Projects sponsored by the Serbian Ministry for Science and Technology. His teaching disciplines include a new concept of heart structure and function (helical heart), and his interests include ventricular restorative surgery and type A acute aortic dissections.
