"Transitioning to Sustainable Cities and Communities" Book Launch
Yesterday marked the launch of MDPI’s new book "Transitioning to Sustainable Cities and Communities",
number 11 in the Transitioning to Sustainability series. The roundtable boasted a variety of respondents, including Mariam Issoufou, professor of Heritage and Sustainability at the ETHZ, Nitin Bathla, post-doctoral researcher between the Chair of Sociology at the ETHZ and the Geography Department at UZH, and David Kostenwein, post-doctoral researcher at the SPUR Group with David Kauffmann at D-BAUG.
Following the comments of the respondents we heard from the Editors of the volumes, including the acting-moderator Hubert Klumpner, Georgeen Theodore and Klearjos Eduardo Papanicolaou, a selection of contributors to the volume who attended both virtually and in-person, and Evan Escamilla, representing MDPI.
The roundtable explored the topic of the 2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and then looked at SDG 11—to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. The SDGs in combination with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, established in 2015 and adopted by all United Nations (UN) Member States, is considered the most ambitious agenda adopted by the UN to date. Interestingly, and also vitally, this is the first time the issue of cities has been considered and addressed within the context of sustainability.
With the launch of "Transitioning to Sustainable Cities and Communities", we mark 15 books of the 17 volume series closed.
