Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Stimuli-responsive polymer, smart drug delivery system, topical drug release, nanocarrier for drug delivery, nanomedicine, and drug release device have been developed over decades. Research in these topics is well-known and make significant outcomes not only in academia but also in industry. At this point, current research focuses on how to develop a systemic design for the topical delivery system of therapeutics by synergistic harmony of the well-developed techniques. Nanomedicine has advantages in terms of increase dispersity of cargo therapeutics in an aqueous environment, protect the activity of cargo therapeutics from chemical or biological reaction until the cargo arrives at a target site. Topical delivery of this nanomedicine raises a chance of accumulation of the therapeutics on the target site, but it would be more ideal to release a therapeutic amount of nanomedicine on-demand. A stimuli-responsive biomaterial-based release device may be one of the potential solutions for the on-demand topical release of nanomedicine. In this regard, elucidation of Structure-Property-Function relationships in the design of nanomedicine release devices would be worth to be explored.

This Special Issue collects original research and critical reviews about scientific and technical information. The primary areas of interest of this Special Issue include but are not limited to:

  • Design of medical device for “on-demand” release of nanomedicine.
  • Design of biomaterials for controlled release of nanomedicine.
  • Smart polymer for fabrication of medical device releasing nanomedicine.
  • Stimuli-responsive membranes for topical drug delivery.
  • Stable nanocarriers for release from a medical device.
  • Stability and efficacy of nanomedicine release from a biomaterial-based medical device.
