Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The heart receives continuous input from the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system, which orchestrate the complex myocardial adaptation to both physiologic and pathologic stresses, involving both myocyte and non-myocyte components. Autonomic neurons, at the same time, respond to heart-derived signals which regulate their trophism, function and distribution. Such double-stranded bond between neurons and heart is underlain by functional and structural mechanisms and inter-cellular interactions, whose identification has progressively extended the realm of neurocardiology beyond the fight-or-flight domain.

This special issue aims to collect Original Research, Review, Methods, and Perspective articles addressed on role, mechanisms and routes of neuro-cardiac communication in cardiovascular physiology or pathology. Articles focused on neurogenic interactions with myocyte and non-myocyte myocardial cellular entities, including e.g., vascular, mesenchymal, and Schwann cells are welcome.
