Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
For decades, foodborne parasites have been the cause of sporadic cases of infections and large outbreaks worldwide. The majority of foodborne parasites cause intestinal illnesses which could be extremely challenging to diagnose solely based on clinical symptoms. Furthermore, certain parasites that are not considered classically to be foodborne, may cause severe illnesses when people ingest food and/or water contaminated with their infective stage. There are also unresolved issues related to how to effectively interrupt the life cycle of certain parasites and prevent contamination of environmental sources and food. These unresolved issues could be studied under the One Health concept if adequate analytical tools are made available to conduct such studies. Thus, this Special Issue will focus on different aspects of detection of foodborne parasites expanding the scope to methods and approaches that can be applicable to clinical, food and different types of environmental samples.
