Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid development of advanced materials is reshaping the conception, design, and assessment of engineering structures. Novel material systems—ranging from architected and lattice materials to advanced composites, smart materials, and additively manufactured metals—have granted researchers unprecedented levels of control over mechanical performance across multiple length and time scales. At the same time, the increasing complexity of these materials poses new challenges with regard to experimental characterization, constitutive modeling, numerical simulation, and structural integrity assessment.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for recent advances in the understanding, modeling, and application of advanced materials under mechanical loading. Emphasis is placed on the mechanical behavior of materials subjected to static, cyclic, and dynamic conditions, including damage initiation, fracture, fatigue, impact, and multiscale phenomena. Contributions addressing experimental techniques, theoretical developments, and computational approaches—such as multiscale modeling, phase-field methods, lattice and metamaterial modeling, and data-driven or hybrid methodologies—are of particular interest.
By collating contributions from different scientific and engineering communities, this Special Issue seeks to foster interdisciplinary discussion and to highlight the emerging trends bridging material science, solid mechanics, and structural engineering. This collection will serve both as a reference for researchers and as a catalyst for future developments in advanced material design and mechanical performance.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
