Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this interesting study, Costa et al. present their findings on the adherence of Brazilian HF patients to the Brazilian Cardioprotective Diet as quantified by the BALANCE Index. This is a well-written article covering an interesting study in a field where data is sorely missing.

The authors report on the BALANCE index in detail. However, adding a figure visualising the different colour codes mentioned in-text (Green, Yellow, Blue, Red) would greatly enhance reader comprehension. More specifically, a color-coded histogram to visualize the frequency of high- and low-quality nutrition in this sample would be much appreciated. Turning Table 1 into a color-coded and perhaps slightly abridged Figure could also aid reader comprehension.

Reviewer 2 Report

General comments:

  • original well-designed study
  •  well-structured and written paper

Specific comments:

  • the studied population must be well-characterized (focus on heart failure etiology... treatment...) in the section results
  • fight againts sedentarity and education must be evocated in the section discussion
