Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Thank you for the opportunity to review this manuscript and learn about your project. The protocol was clear and the writing was polished. Please see some suggestions and questions below.

P1, last line: Are they experiencing negative outcomes, or outcomes that are disparate from those of same-age peers? i.e. are the outcome "bad" or just not as good as other youth?

Introduction: Suggest citing some previous examples of Photovoice projects with youth

P3, first para: Suggest rephrasing last sentence ("It is known...") to "Photovoice projects with underrepresented groups have demonstrated that the process provides..."

P3, second para: Add in a statement about how Photovoice is an antiracist modality.

P4, P4C paragraph: Suggest revising first sentence to read "...period of time when many were calling for change."

P6: Visualization for the step process was helpful!

P7, Positionality: Would also be beneficial to include a version of this for the Leadership Team described above; is there overlap between the Leadership Team vs. Project Team?

P8, Meeting 1: Sharing exemplar photographs during this orientation meeting was a great idea; it personalized the Team to the potential participants and showed willingness to be vulnerable and self-share.

P9, Meeting 2: If these 1:1 meetings were Coordinators' first 1:1 interaction with participants, how did Coordinators tailor them to "needs, wishes, personality, and development" without previous knowledge/introduction/etc?

P8, Meeting 3: How were participant groups for Share Back determined? Stratified by age? Based on availability or location? I think this matters methodologically and for TIC.

Discussion/Conclusion: Again, would be beneficial to bring in some past examples, especially if they discuss participant experiences in youth Photovoice projects to contextualize your findings.

Appendix B: Curious about methods for creating accessible documents (ex. was reading level assessed?). There are some words that strike me as possibly unfamiliar and lacking explanation (e.g. eco-mapping).

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear Authors,

This was an incredibly rigorous PhotoVoice study and makes a strong rationale for its utility in empowering and connecting youth. I appreciate that it was truly trauma-informed. It is refreshing that this approach did not essentialize the youth as a youth who has experienced foster care. This is a delicate balance and it was done beautifully.

Thank you for the opportunity for reviewing this paper. I hope other agencies consider the use of this approach for therapeutic purposes.
