Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

6. Conclusions and perspectives: Tracer studies of water masses should use other elements/isotopes preferentialy. Cs-137 is getting old, its activity is diminishing.

1. Introduction: Define Θ/S (page 3) before using it.

3. Materials and methods: "gr" is not offical abriviation for gram. Please, change this to "g" in text.

4. Results: Delete Table 2, make Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 larger and readable.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors,

I’ve read your manuscript with big interest and found it very interesting, informative, and internationally important. It is based on a strong research project, and the outcomes are communicated properly. The manuscript is structured and illustrated adequately. I see some issues for improvements. I hope my recommendations will help bringing your work fully in order.

1)      Key words: please, avoid the words from the title.

2)      The information about sampling and sample sites can be moved to the section 3.

3)      Figures 2 and 4 must be enlarged and made more contrast for visibility of details.

4)      Line 323: “the basin W10” – may be station instead of basin? (check also Line 379 and other places)

5)      Discussion: it would be important to see a brief comparison of your findings with what was reported earlier from the other seas of the world.

6)      Section 6: the first paragraph bears interpretations, which are more suitable to “Discussion”. In the section 6, I advise to give a numbered list of 3-5 principal findings (from “Results” and “Discussion”).

7)      The language and the style need certain polishing. I also see some repetitions between the paragraphs, which should be avoided where possible.

8)      References: I’m sure you can cite more sources, including some articles in top international journals published in the 2020s.
