Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In Figure 1 it is not clear which parts are the flaps. The centre part or the side parts . Please indicate this in the figure.

The caption of Table 3 should read: Comparison between experimental and computational resistance coefficients.

Can the authors provide a discussion as to why the difference between computational and experimental results for the resistance increases with increasing speed?

At the end of section 4 it may be good to mention that the principal effect of the flaps is to reduce the trim angle which in turn leads to grater cavity lengths.

The font of conclusions 3 and 4 is different from the rest.

Dear Reviewer :

At first, thank you for your comments and advice for the paper, which we submitted to the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering,  Manuscript ID: JMSE-551114.  Now we have revised the paper and would like to re-submit it for further reviwe. The comments are all responded and are highlighted in the revised manuscript.  And a point-by-point response is also attached.

Thank you again for your suggestions and hope that the correction will meet with approval. All of your suggestions are very important and have important guiding significance for our future research.

Best wishes,

Sincerely

Shijie Lu

- Which tecniques you used for CFD? Overset, IDW (Inversed Distance Weighted otherwise morphing) or a Rigid Body Motion?

- Insert more detail about the CG of the hull or LCB

- If is it possible, insert more detail about the story and the design of this stepped hull. For example how parameters such as: height of the step, longitudinal step position, number of step were chosen?

- Insert more detail about the mash near the step

- Why use the flap on the stepped hull? The stepped hull it has a great longitudinal stability that avoid the porpoising instability, if there are porpoising depend by the longitudinal step position.

Dear Reviewer

I am writing for the article entitled “Experimental and numerical research for the influence of stern flap mounting angle on double-stepped planing hull hydrodynamic performance” article ID JMSE-551114. Thanks very much for your comments and suggestions. My fellow mates and I have learned a lot from your advice and the manuscript modify process. The experience will help us a lot in the furture research. And  your comments also has so much important guiding significance for our future work.

We resubmitted the revised manuscript for a further review. The response to the comments is attached below and we have high lighted the main rewritten text in blue, in order to distinguish from the former modify work.We hope that the correction will meet with the approval.

Thank you again for your kind comments and suggestions.

Yours Sincerely

Shijie Lu
