Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Title: Dynamic stability of the coupled pontoon-ocean turbine-floater platform-rope system under harmonic wave excitation and steady ocean current

The mentioned article deals with  a mooring design keeping the turbine ocean current in a static balanced and fixed at a predetermined depth under water, to ensure that the ocean current generator can effectively use current to generate electricity, and the water pressure remain adequate value before critical pressure damage occurs.

  1. The manuscript is well written. However, a native English speaker would be useful to check whole of the text for grammatical style and word use.
  2. What is the novelty of the present work?
  3. The authors used the words (Dynamic stability) in which there are no section about the stability of the configuration system.
  4. The introduction section should be enriched with a historical review of such related works. Therefore, I strongly recommend the following works:
  • The vibrational motion of a spring pendulum in a fluid flow

MA Bek, TS Amer, MA Sirwah, J Awrejcewicz, AA Arab

Results in Physics 19, 103465, 2020

  • Asymptotic analysis and numerical solutions for the rigid body containing a viscous liquid in cavity in the presence of gyrostatic moment

WS Amer, AM Farag, IM Abady

Archive of Applied Mechanics, 1-14.

  1. The symbol { } represent a set Bracket. Therefore the authors can use any sailable bracket or please describe what you mean.
  2. Some of figures must be represented in more attractive way as in Figs. 1, 2.
  3. What about the symbol the phase angle phi (After eqn. 14) and the other one in page 12. Are they the same. What about the same symbols in Page 17?

8- W2, W4, L4 , T3 and so one the numbers 2 ,3 and 4 are indices.

  1. There is a subsection 3.3. in page, although there is no section 3 or subsection 3.1
  2. The authors should rearrange the caption of Fig. 4
  3. The authors can use different colors in Figs. 6-10 as in Fig. 11
  4. In page 21 there exists a long-term term in advance. Is it ok
  5. The authors should re arrange the figures numbers, in which Fig. 3 is included in the Appendix
  6. Fig. 15 doesn’t include in the text.

15. Conclusion must be extended in a better form to include all the obtained results.

Author Response

The changes are marked in red color. I would like to thank the reviewers for their excellent job. The responses to the reviewer’s comments are listed as follows:

Response to comments from reviewer 1:

C1. The manuscript is well written. However, a native English speaker would be useful to check whole of the text for grammatical style and word use.

Response: It is revised.

C2. What is the novelty of the present work?

Response:

  • This paper proposes a saft mooring design for an ocean current inverter.
  • Under the wave excitation the design of mooring system can maintain the dynamic displacement of turbine very small so that the turbine can exert its power generation efficiency.
  • Establish the mathematical model for this mooring design and provide analytical solutions.
  • Study the influence of various parameters on the safety and stability of the mooring system.
  • The above features are detailed in the abstract, text and conclusion respectively.

C3. The authors used the words (Dynamic stability) in which there are no section about the stability of the configuration system.

Response: The more stable the turbine, the more it can exert its power generation efficiency. According to the observations in Figures 4d and 5, under the wave excitation the design of mooring system can maintain the dynamic displacement of turbine very small. This is described in section 4 in detail. In addition, the researches about dynamic stability are also discussed and listed in the introduction.

C4. The introduction section should be enriched with a historical review of such related works. Therefore, I strongly recommend the following works:

  • MA Bek, TS Amer, MA Sirwah, J Awrejcewicz, AA Arab. The vibrational motion of a spring pendulum in a fluid flow. Results in Physics 19, 103465, 2020
  • WS Amer, AM Farag, IM Abady. Asymptotic analysis and numerical solutions for the rigid body containing a viscous liquid in cavity in the presence of gyrostatic moment, Archive of Applied Mechanics, 1-14.

Response: The new referred papers are listed in the introduction.

C5. The symbol { } represent a set Bracket. Therefore the authors can use any sailable bracket or please describe what you mean.

Response: It is revised.

C6. Some of figures must be represented in more attractive way as in Figs. 1, 2.

Response: Figures 1 and 2 are revised.

C7. What about the symbol the phase angle phi (After eqn. 14) and the other one in page 12. Are they the same. What about the same symbols in Page 17?

Response: It is revised.

C8. W2, W4, L4 , T3 and so one the numbers 2 ,3 and 4 are indices.

Response: The rope numbers are replaced by {A, B, C}. All the Figures and equations are revised. The symbols in figures and equations are consistent.

C9. There is a subsection 3.3. in page, although there is no section 3 or subsection 3.1

Response: It is revised.

C10. The authors should rearrange the caption of Fig. 4

Response: All the parameters in figure captions are moved in the text description.

C11. The authors can use different colors in Figs. 6-10 as in Fig. 11

Response: Figures 6-11 are revised.

C12. In page 21 there exists a long-term term in advance. Is it ok

Response: It is revised.

C13.The authors should re arrange the figures numbers, in which Fig. 3 is included in the Appendix

Response: All the figure numbers are revised.

C14. Fig. 15 doesn’t include in the text.

Response: It is revised.

C15. Conclusion must be extended in a better form to include all the obtained results.

Response: It is revised.

Reviewer 2 Report

Just some minor comments:

  1. please ensure that there is homogeneity between symbols used in equations and the one provided in Figure 1a and Figure 1b, It is suggested to improve figures quality as some symbols are difficult to read.
  2. as Figure 1a and 1b are separated, could be named Figure 1 and Figure 2.
  3. Please avoid to put all the values in the figures labels. Try to put it in the text description or in a legend inside the figure.
  4. Please use the same symbol for the phase through the text.
  5. It appears that study covers only regular waves analysis. What about irregular waves?

Response: All the parameters in figure captions are moved in the text description.

C4. Please use the same symbol for the phase through the text.

Response: The symbol ‘f ' of phase in the revised manuscript is consistent.

C5. It appears that study covers only regular waves analysis. What about irregular waves?

Response: In general, irregular waves can be composed of multiple regular waves. In order to understand the resonance response of the system, avoid and suppress resonance response, this paper uses regular waves to study the dynamic response spectrum of the system. The research on irregular waves will be discussed in future papers.
