Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Author,

The reviewer has completed the review process. The author should improve the grammar. The author should demonstrate the methodology and results individually. At first, the methodology and the contribution in the methodology must be addressed. After that, the results and discussion should be presented with proper verification of the proposed techniques. The paper can be reconsidered after addressing these issues. Hence the reviewer recommends a major revision for the manuscript.

Good luck

English language must be improved. For instance:

  1. 48: Sentence structure to be improved.
  2. 55: Incorrect sentence.
  3. 60-62: Repetitions of “wharf” and stating “the wharf” suggests we should know which one.
  4. 66-67: Missing a verb.
  5. 106: lager parts of the document

Validation of the results would be needed in order to increase the value of the work. Ideally, experimental validation, albeit complicated, or alternatively a study of similar results in other research works.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear Authors,

thank you for submitting your paper to the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering. In the paper formulas for the prediction of lifespan due to chloride ingress, and changing temperatures were developed. In fact, you compile formulas from various sources to analyze the performance of piles in chapter 4. The problem with this type of works is that they are not compared with data from real structures so it is hard to discuss the results. However, the paper can serve as a guide to others and brings some valuable conclusions. The command of English is good however there are some editorial corrections required.

In figures 3-6 you used a yellow line that is barely visible.

In line 215 I would change "demonstrating" into "demonstrating how"

After formulas sometimes there are unexpected indentations, and the sentences that lead to formulas are finished with a period (instead of colon) or there is no punctuation mark.

In line 259 remove "of"

The last remark considers formula 3. Could you please check if it is proper since the original one looks different?

Best regards

The comments have been addressed. The quality of the paper is deemed reasonable. It would benefit a lot from comparison with real results or characterisation, but the authors mention this as future work, so this paper is recomended for publication.
