Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

It would be interesting to read more about the local cultural background, so that we could have more insight into why the attitudes (particularly the hesitations) are as they are regarding RES in the area.

Please see some language suggestions below:

Line 102: determinating (determining) factors

Line 113, 116: replace "thus" with "i.e"

Line 141: maybe instead of "served" you could say "taught/had classes"

Line 173: "displayed" (discussed? presented?)

Line 216: move "specifically' to the beginning of the sentence.

Line 242:  in favor of it

Line 250, 260: "undecisive" ("undecided" is the more suitable adjective in this sentence)

Line 402: regarding the location and regarding the participation

Line 438: teachers always are always prone (willing) to do

Line 452: non-holders (non-graduates?)

It would be interesting to read more about the local cultural background, so that we could have more insight into why the attitudes (particularly the hesitations) are as they are regarding RES in the area.

A clear reference on the cultural background of the local community, that may explain citizens’ attitudes toward RES, has been added at the fourth paragraph of the Introduction section.

Line 102: determinating (determining) factors

The suggestion has been accepted.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article "Local renewable energy development: school teachers’ perceptions, attitudes, and teaching intentions" is interesting.
It is recommended in the Introduction to conducting a more comprehensive global review. Graphs 1-10 are not uniform in size, it is recommended to examine necessity. It is mandatory to explain what the contribution of each graph is. It might be worth presenting them in a different graphic way.
The conclusions chapter should make a global contribution and not just refer locally to Greece.

The article "Local renewable energy development: school teachers’ perceptions, attitudes, and teaching intentions" is interesting.

It is recommended in the Introduction to conducting a more comprehensive global review.

The literature review (Introduction section) has been enriched with three more studies regarding the critical role of education and the integration of RES education into school curricula.

Graphs 1-10 are not uniform in size, it is recommended to examine necessity. It is mandatory to explain what the contribution of each graph is. It might be worth presenting them in a different graphic way.

All graphs have been adjusted properly.

A short paragraph explaining the contribution of the graphs was added at the beginning of the Results section.

The conclusions chapter should make a global contribution and not just refer locally to Greece.

Two sentences have been added at the end of the next to the last paragraph of the Conclusions section to describe the wider potential effect of this study.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper is a complete research with a clear structure, methodology and deep analysis of the theoretical background. The paper is written on a relevant topic and is undoubtedly of interest to the Journal. I believe that the manuscript can be published after removing a few minor comments.

  1. At the very beginning (line 31), the authors carry out the idea that the task of increasing energy efficiency is extremely important for the modern economy. It seems to me that this thesis should be expanded deeper. Indeed, the idea of teaching the basics of RES in schools should not only pursue local goals of increasing the energy literacy of future consumers, but also, in principle, be incorporated into the national Energy Strategy. And this is a different scale of significance of the problem! As a result, a wide range of tasks arises - the formation of new teachers' competencies, searching and changing the methods and content of teaching. The authors should devote at least a couple of lines to this aspect of the problem, perhaps at the Conclusion section, where the authors talk about directions for further research.
  2. I will recommend one paper that may be useful to the authors in their future work. It is dedicated to the issues of advanced education of managers in universities. Probably some of the recommendations suggested in this paper can be scaled up to school education as well: Gitelman, L.; Kozhevnikov, M.; Ryzhuk, O. Advance Management Education for Power-Engineering and Industry of the Future. Sustainability 201911, 5930. https://doi.org/10.3390/su11215930
  3. Figures 1 - 10 look unrepresentative, they are very small and hard to read. You should work with the design of the figures so that they are understandable for readers. In addition, the words "graph" in captions should be replaced by "figure".

A short paragraph has been added at the end of the Conclusion section to underline the critical role that local communities could play so that students can develop competences needed to deal with grand scale sustainability issues.

The above-mentioned short paragraph has also cited this useful study and particularly the importance of ‘advance teacher education.

  1. Figures 1 - 10 look unrepresentative, they are very small and hard to read. You should work with the design of the figures so that they are understandable for readers. In addition, the words "graph" in captions should be replaced by "figure".

All figures have been replaced by clearer images. The term “Graph” has been replaced by the term “Figure”.
