Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This is well conducted and reported study.  I saw only a coupple of typing errors. For future research, I recommend to include the concept of trancultural, to the discussion. I wonder, if transculturation occurs in the border region.

Reviewer 2 Report

This is a very interesting and well-written paper exploring perceptions of the
cultural diversity and identities of adolescents in the border area between Spain and Morocco.
The research is extremely important because limited research has explored these issues both in the two sides of a border line.

Both the theoretical and the methodological part of the paper have a very good structure and there are absolutely clear of what they describe. I found the literature review very adequate as it contains many significant references focusing on the paper’s main subjects such as border studies, identity construction and others.  Also, the methodology is described in detail giving a concrete picture of the design and implementation of the steps that the researchers followed. The study employed both a quantitative and a qualitative design to collect data, which confirms the validity and the reliability of the research.

The description of the research results is clear and the discussion/conclusion extremely fruitful. I found very interesting the point that “adolescents from the south side of the border form a type of questioned identities that lead them to recognize themselves in their country of origin, but also in experiences and relationships established with the other side”.

As a conclusion I believe that this an excellent paper giving many ideas and motives to future researchers on the same and similar fields.

Reviewer 3 Report

The manuscript presented is of great interest to the field of education and is of high scientific quality. Nevertheless, I would like to point out some suggestions.

Revise line 26, double TT

The summary indicates that a questionnaire was administered to young people, but in the methodological part (line 120) it is indicated that it is a multimethod design; this aspect is not clear (although it is briefly described in line 131). It would be better to indicate in the summary or in the methodological part that this research is part of a broader work in which different data collection techniques have been used.

We have indicated in the methodological part that this research is part of a broader work in which different data collection techniques have been used.
