Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper appropriately addresses a very relevant emerging topic, the knowledge of the SDGs, and perfectly relates it to the training and motivation of future teachers, providing a new and very suggestive perspective, the importance of literature and reading for to be able to train and better transmit the importance of the SDGs.

It’s an excellent investigation with two differentiated but complementary approaches. The vision of the students in training of the Faculty of Education and the opinion of 5 active university professors on the importance of the SDGs.

The results are clear and highlight a central problem, the high level of ignorance (+50%, Fig.1p.13) of the SDGs. Perhaps this data should be entered at the beginning of the results

Some suggestions for improvement are added:

1. It would be convenient to incorporate some more reference on the relevance of the SDGs, especially International, because the bibliography focuses too much on contributions in Spanish. For example:

-Sunthonkanokpong,W. & Murphy,E.(2019).Quality, Equity, Inclusion and Lifelong Learning in Pre-service Teacher Education. Journal of Teacher Education for Sustainability,21(2) 91-104. https://doi.org/10.2478/jtes-2019-0019

-Paula Gonçalves Serafini , Jéssica Morais de Moura , Mariana Rodrigues de Almeida Júlio Francisco Dantas de Rezende (2022) Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education Institutions: A systematic literature review. Journal of Cleaner Production. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jclepro.2022.133473

-Fia, M., Ghasemzadeh, K. & Paletta, (2022). A. How Higher Education Institutions Walk Their Talk on the 2030 Agenda: A Systematic Literature Review. High Educ Policy  https://doi.org/10.1057/s41307-022-00277-x

 2. Given that the SDGs are a topical issue, which is being worked on from all areas of knowledge, it would be convenient to specify the chronological framework of the research to be able to compare results in later years or in other environments. Course 2021-22 or 2022-23?

 3. On page 6 we talk about the validation of the surveys. It would be advisable to provide some research by judges on these issues. Their validity is adequate, which demonstrates an excellent research design.

 4. The tables of quantitative results are very complete and confirm the importance of the research. However, I would equalize the columns. When including “JOINT PROGRAM OF OFFI-CIAL DEGREES (PCEO)” I would put only PCEO, because the term has been presented before.

 5. The qualitative results are very rich, but I think they are wasted. By having to layout it at the end of the document, the relationship with the explanation is lost. I would limit the use of Atlas.ti maps to 2 or 3 examples and in the explanation of these results I would describe the terms in greater depth and put the Spanish-English translation in the text, in order to better interpret them.

 6. The discussion and conclusions are adequate, but it would affect them, especially in presenting some idea or project for the future to solve these deficiencies. You can also provide some more reference, such as the initial suggestions.

The text is of good quality and well-structured. Possibly more aspects could be included in the final discussion how to work with SDG.
