Body Mass Trajectory Affects the Long-Term Occurrence of Metabolic Syndrome in Adult Patients with Severe Obesity
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The manuscript is difficult to follow as a result of the language and word choice.
A few specific examples with suggestions:
1) The phrase "weight gain started in" childhood/adolescence/adulthood is used to describe the categories p5L85-93. I recommend changing this as weight gain is a normal aspect of childhood and adolescence. Overweight onset in childhood/adolescence/adulthood seems like a more accurate phrase. This applies to other places where weight gain is used as well. I do not recommend using "weight gain" to refer to overweight or obesity onset.
2) p11L238 refers to the development of obesity before adulthood. Is this referring to obesity (a BMI greater than or equal to 30 kg/m2) or overweight? These terms should not be used interchangeably.
The results of this analysis might be an important contribution to the literature that could provide additional understanding of the impacts of the timing of overweight onset.

The main objective of this study was to determine the long term association between overweight history, in particular the period of onset of obesity, the BMI and weight gain in adulthood and the development of a metabolic syndrome in adulthood within a population of severe and morbid obese adults.
I suggest the following changes:
1. remove the BMI values from the objective and insert them only in the methods;
2. check all the bibliography, there are reference errors in the text;
3. the style used to report the bibliography in the text is incorrect, fix it.
