Ultrabroadband OPA in YCOB with a sub-ps Pump Source
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This paper demonstrates a broadband optical parametric amplifier for near-infrared super continuum. The nonlinear crystal is YCOB. The pumping pulse has sub-picosecond width, millijoule energy. The amplification range covers 750-950 nm. The gain can be 800 from 2.5 nJ to 2 microjoule. The paper is well written. It is helpful for the researchers in the laser fields. I think it can be published in Photonics after revision.
1. The input signal spectral range is 625-1000 nm. The range of 750-950 nm is amplified, and the peak is 815 nm. Please discuss the ways to amplify different ranges and different peaks.
2. Some of the journal names in the References are abbreviated, some are not. The format should be unified.
Author Response
- The last paragraph of Section 2 was changed to more clearly explain the reasoning for the amplified spectral portion of the supercontinuum. Added sentence indicating briefly how amplification tuning can be achieved and referring readers to a cited paper of the same authors where a full section is dedicated to this very question.
- Journal abbreviations were used for all entries to unify the reference section style

In following paper, “Ultrabroadband OPA in YCOB with a sub-ps pump source” the authors proposed and demonstrated a single-stage YCOB-based OPA system operating in the near-IR with sub-picosecond pumping which reflects the potential of YCOB for ultrashort OPA and OPCPA systems. It is a complete work, well written, well organized, including interesting results. All sections such as introduction, experimental arrangement, and results were adequately carried out. I think the manuscript reports an acceptable amount of information for a scientific paper. I recommend to manuscript to be accepted in Photonics Journal in its present form.

Ultrabroadband OPA in YCOB with a sub-ps pump source
By Hugo Pires, Joana Alves, Victor Hariton, Mario Galetti, Celso P. João and Gonçalo Figueira
The authors demonstrated for the first time a system for the broadband optical parametric amplification (OPA) of the near-infrared laser pulses based on a new nonlinear material, i.e. a single crystal of yttrium calcium oxyborate (YCOB). This nonlinear crystal is recommended for applications in high power laser systems. They created a novel experimental setup described in detail in Section 2. They presented and discussed the experimental results obtained. The manuscript is clearly written and well organized. The results may be interesting for the researchers occupied in spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, and optical materials.
The manuscript can be accepted for publication in a present form.
