Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors,

I congratulate you on the paper and hope that my suggestions and questions in the attached file will be considered in its final form. The main comments concern the change in the type of paper in review one and its title. This paper presents the state of technology and does not contain research issues. I also suggest changing the thesis title because it is a bit too extensive concerning its content and the literature’s quantity. Its structure is also unclear because a large part of the Introduction concerns too general issues – the main paper’s problems are presented at the end of page No 4. The paper refers to several already published technology reviews without defining whether it is an update or systematization of data. The summary should also include more defined technology properties for the future. Each has advantages and disadvantages, which should clearly define the cost-effective level and identify “future directions and challenges for coherent detection with data rates beyond 100 G per wavelength and distances over 100 km”.
