Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this study, the authors introduce a new generalized family of distributions called the Exponentiated Half Logistic-Harris-G (EHL-Harris-G) distribution. Several statistical properties including hazard rate function, quantile function, moments, moments of residual life, distribution of the order statistics and Rényi entropy are discussed. Risk measures such as value at risk, tail value at risk, tail variance and tail variance premium are also derived and studied. To estimate the parameters the EHLHarris-G family of distributions, six different estimation approaches are used, namely, maximum likelihood, least-squares, weighted least-squares, maximum product spacing, Cramér-von Mises, and Anderson–Darling. The consistency properties of the six estimation methods were assessed using Monte Carlo simulations for a special case of the EHL-Harris-G family of distributions. Finally, the authors illustrate the goodness-of-fit of the new family of distributions by fitting it to two real life data sets from different fields. The paper is interesting and well-written but has drawbacks:

1. The authors should clearly formulate areas of applicability of the proposed distributions.

2. The authors should explain clearly all used tests and all cases. I mean that the new distribution entails a new modification of the tests with a slightly different model of the null hypothesis.

3. The presentation of the paper should be improved, ecpecially, for figures and tables.

4. The presented numerical examples should be better commented on.

The quality of English is acceptable.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this paper, the author suggested a new probability family by using the method proposed by Cordeiro et al. [10] to generate or construct new probability families of continuous distributions.  Some of the properties of the suggested model are developed, such as product moments, moment-generating function, and Reny entropy. Although I find some merit in the paper, it is required that substantial revisions:

Major comment:

1-In my opinion, the author did not suggest a new method for constructing new probability families of continuous distributions, as was claimed at the beginning of the paper. The author used a known method due to [10], which required choosing a survival function of any distribution. The author chose the survival function of the Harris-G class of distributions, which was proposed by Pinho et al. [14]. Consequently, the abstract of the paper must be rewritten to include a reference to this.

2- At the beginning of page 2, the authors made a quick review of some works relating to the extended family of distribution functions. I suggest adding some extra important works related to the collection of references cited by the authors:
