Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Compared to the existing methods, the advantages of the current proposed method have not been explained in detail. And the explanation of the mathematical expression was also insufficient. A systematic and logical explanation for this must be supplemented.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article "Machine learning-augmented micro defect detection on plastic straw"

studied machine vision-based detection with self-adaption and high accuracy characteristics for  plastic straw detection.

The article is organized well and has the necessary elements to be published in a high-impact academic journal. I recommend its acceptance after minor revision. Here are my comments.

1. First of all, it can be seen that the introduction is adequately developed and organized, which allows the reader to have clarity of what can be expected from the article.

2. How often is the camera shooting?

3. What is the shooting range of the camera, and how many straws can be captured at a time?

4. Explain the meaning of each letter in the formula from (1) to (6).

5. During the experiments, if the temperature and humidity have an influence on the accuracy of the whole system?

6. It is better if more details, including the Model, manufacturer, and country of the measuring instruments, are described.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

Although there are not enough results to prove the superiority of the proposed method compared to the existing method, the authors faithfully answered the question. Therefore, I accept the publication of this manuscript.
