Feature papers represent the most advanced research with significant potential for high impact in the field. A Feature Paper should be a substantial original Article that involves several techniques or approaches, provides an outlook for future research directions and describes possible research applications.
Feature papers are submitted upon individual invitation or recommendation by the scientific editors and must receive positive feedback from the reviewers.
Editor’s Choice articles are based on recommendations by the scientific editors of MDPI journals from around the world. Editors select a small number of articles recently published in the journal that they believe will be particularly interesting to readers, or important in the respective research area. The aim is to provide a snapshot of some of the most exciting work published in the various research areas of the journal.

The MDPI submission system has been redesigned with author and editor needs in mind, featuring two significant enhancements: a rebuilt workflow that provides clear cost information throughout the process, and unified navigation across all MDPI platforms.
The submission process at susy.mdpi.com now features a completely rebuilt workflow combining intuitive design with powerful integrity safeguards. Each step from journal selection and automated metadata extraction through integrity statements to final submission follows a logical sequence that streamlines the experience for authors and editors alike.
The new interface guides both first-time and experienced users through manuscript upload to submission completion.
One improvement is complete cost transparency during the submission process: APC calculations, including all applicable discounts from reviewer vouchers, institutional partnerships (IOAP), and learned society memberships, display clearly before submission. Authors can plan budgets and secure funding with full cost certainty upfront.
Navigation panels across the submission system now share a consistent visual language with other MDPI platforms. While core functionality remains familiar, the unified design makes it easier to switch between browsing journals, managing submissions, and tracking publications.
The enhanced system is available now. Authors can currently choose between the new workflow and the previous version, allowing time to explore the improvements. The new workflow will soon become the default for all users. We encourage researchers to try the new experience with their next submission.
