Popular Preprints of the Decade Award 2016–2026 Launched by Preprints.org

Feature papers represent the most advanced research with significant potential for high impact in the field. A Feature Paper should be a substantial original Article that involves several techniques or approaches, provides an outlook for future research directions and describes possible research applications.
Feature papers are submitted upon individual invitation or recommendation by the scientific editors and must receive positive feedback from the reviewers.
Editor’s Choice articles are based on recommendations by the scientific editors of MDPI journals from around the world. Editors select a small number of articles recently published in the journal that they believe will be particularly interesting to readers, or important in the respective research area. The aim is to provide a snapshot of some of the most exciting work published in the various research areas of the journal.

To celebrate 10 years of open research sharing, Preprints.org is proud to launch the Popular Preprints of the Decade Award to recognize the preprints that have been read, discussed and shared the most across our community over the past decade. Over ten years, more than 410,000 researchers have shared their work on our platform, generating over 92 million downloads and 24 million views.
The award will honor 110 preprints across 11 subject areas, spotlighting the role of preprints in accelerating scholarly communication by immediately making research visible and accessible to the research community before formal peer review.

New submissions are welcome until 10 May 2026. Submit your manuscript now to be considered for shortlisting.
Shortlisting and voting:
In each of the 11 subject areas, 30 preprints will be shortlisted by the Preprints.org Electoral Committee, comprising members of our Advisory Board, Screeners, and Editorial Office. Selections will be based on community engagement and research development.
Final winners will be determined through public voting, open from 1 September to 30 November 2026, with the 10 most-voted preprints per subject area winning the award.
