Feature papers represent the most advanced research with significant potential for high impact in the field. A Feature Paper should be a substantial original Article that involves several techniques or approaches, provides an outlook for future research directions and describes possible research applications.
Feature papers are submitted upon individual invitation or recommendation by the scientific editors and must receive positive feedback from the reviewers.
Editor’s Choice articles are based on recommendations by the scientific editors of MDPI journals from around the world. Editors select a small number of articles recently published in the journal that they believe will be particularly interesting to readers, or important in the respective research area. The aim is to provide a snapshot of some of the most exciting work published in the various research areas of the journal.

Professor Neil Champness began his academic career at the University of Southampton with a B.Sc. (1989) and PhD (1993) under the supervision of Prof. Bill Levason. Following postdoctoral studies, under the supervision of Prof. Gill Reid he moved to the University of Nottingham in 1995, taking up his current position as Professor of Chemical Nanoscience in 2004.
Research in the Champness group concerns chemical nanoscience and all aspects of molecular organization, including organization in the solid-state via crystal engineering, the study of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) and surface supramolecular assembly. Particular targets of his work are guest molecular entrapment, studying reactivity in confined spaces and nanostructure fabrication for applications in energy generation and storage.
In recognition of his research, he has been awarded a number of awards, including the Royal Society of Chemistry Corday Morgan Medal, the RSC Supramolecular Chemistry Award and the RSC Surfaces and Interfaces Award. He is a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, the Learned Society of Wales and the Royal Society of Chemistry. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre.
The editorial team warmly welcomes Professor Neil Champness as the Editor-in-Chief of Organic Crystalline Materials, and looks forward to his contribution to the continued success of Crystals. For further information on the journal sections, please see here.
