Prof. Dr. Luis Hernández-Callejo is currently a professor/researcher at the Department of Agricultural and Forestry Engineering, University of Valladolid. His research spans areas including renewable energy, photovoltaics, wind energy, microgrids, smart grids, smart cities, and artificial intelligence.
Prof. Dr. Hernández-Callejo has numerous publications in Q1 journals, in the first positions in their respective areas. His publications have been cited an average of 80 times a year, an average of 23 times per article; he currently has an H-index of 21.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Hernández-Callejo has extensive experience managing articles and Special Issues as an academic editor and reviewer for numerous leading journals. He also has participated in more than 10 national and international research projects, always on issues of renewable generation sources, microgrids, and smart grids.
The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dr. Hernández-Callejo, who shared his vision for the journal with us, as well as his views on the research area and open access publishing:
- What appealed to you about the journal that made you want to take the role as the Editor-in-Chief?
Cities and rural environments are of particular interest at present, so research in these areas will be numerous in the coming years. This journal is relatively new, and I am confident that it will soon be in the top position (in terms of quality).
- What is your vision for the journal?
The topics within the scientific journal are clear, and they are also very varied, so the success of the journal will be assured. However, I believe that some new topics should be integrated, such as the following: energy in cities and rural environments; sensorics and the IoT in cities and rural environments; energy in cities and rural environments; and sustainable development objectives applied to cities and rural environments.
- What does the future of this field of research look like?
The future is very promising; the management and planning of cities and rural environments are priorities. To these should be added the rest of the topics that the scientific journal manages. Therefore, research in this area will be numerous and of high quality.
- What do you think of the development of open access in the publishing field?
Open access is very interesting and attractive to journal readers, so I support this initiative. However, when a scientific journal is not positioned (JCR in WoS, SJR in SCOPUS), the cost of publications is something negative, since authors seek to publish in open access but in indexed journals.
