Prof. Dr. Christian Napoli Appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of Section “Coronaviruses (CoV) and COVID-19 Pandemic” in Healthcare

We are honored to announce that Prof. Dr. Christian Napoli has been appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of the Section “Coronaviruses (CoV) and COVID-19 Pandemic” in Healthcare (ISSN: 2227-9032).

Prof. Dr. Christian Napoli

Prof. Dr. Christian Napoli was born on May 30th, 1975. He is a medical doctor, specializing in hygiene and preventive medicine. His research experience, characterized by a translation approach, was acquired in universities and national and international research institutions. Currently, he is an associate professor at the Sapienza University of Rome and the Director of the complex operative unit of Risk Management at Sant’Andrea Teaching Hospital in Rome. Since 2022, he has published almost 200 articles regarding infection control, migrants and health, early warning systems, and the evaluation of knowledge, habits, and behaviors in different groups of populations.

The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dr. Christian Napoli, who shared his vision for the journal with us, as well as his views of the research area and open access publishing:

1. What appealed to you about the journal that made you want to take the role as its Editor-in-Chief?

My interest in Healthcare was, first of all, due to the wide range of leading topics managed. Moreover, the journal is characterized by high visibility, very rapid and rigorous peer reviewing, and is independent from scientific medical societies.

Over the past years, I served both as a referee and an Academic Editor and I experienced constructive cooperation with the Editorial Office, supporting the Editorial Board and greatly contributing to the serious and transparent approach in the peer-review process.

For all these reasons, and considering my scientific background, I decided to accept the role of the Section Editor-in-Chief with regard to the Section “Coronaviruses (CoV) and COVID-19 Pandemic”.

2. What is your vision for the journal?

The scientific literature has impressively grown with regard to the study of the COVID-19 pandemic, but much is still to be known. Therefore, by attracting high-quality manuscripts for this Section, it is my belief that the journal will be able to provide further evidence useful for understanding missing information in the field of COVID-19 epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

3. What does the future of this field of research look like?

It is well known that, despite the reduction of severe forms, the pandemic is still ongoing. At the same time, the scientific research on this topic has been stimulated and improved. Therefore, in the future we will see the results of a very large number of studies providing more precise evidence. In a world where the pandemic has changed the way of thinking about healthcare, a wide range of studies related to this issue will have the possibility to be published. Thus, I expect a large submission of manuscripts in the near future.

4. What do you think of the development of open access in the publishing field?

In my opinion, to guarantee open access for published papers is primary and fundamental for the dissemination of scientific evidence. In fact, it ensures that published articles are easily accessible to anyone interested in them, independent of the scientific sectors. Therefore, it is my opinion that all scientific journals should use an open access approach, as it is the only way to enhance both the exchange of knowledge between scientists and the user-friendliness of the provided scientific evidence.

We wish Prof. Dr. Christian Napoli every success in his new position, and we look forward to his contributions to the journal.
