Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Erosion, corrosion, and erosion–corrosion have received significant attention among researchers in recent years due to the severe problems in service. In 2013, the cost of corrosion was estimated to be USD 2505 billion, which is equivalent to 3.4% of the global GDP. This excludes the costs associated with safety and environmental consequences. A fundamental understanding of corrosion and its practical control is required to improve the shelf-life of infrastructure assets.

Extreme wear and corrosive environments in the mineral and oil sands industries decrease the productivity and useful life of equipment. The combined action of erosion and corrosion due to the presence of sand/mineral particles flowing in a corrosive fluid produces a high degradation rate of hydrotransport equipment. Material loss rates due to combined erosion–corrosion are usually significantly higher than the sum of material loss rate due to pure erosion and pure corrosion acting separately. As a result, materials subjected to erosion–corrosion processes must be able to resist mechanical and electrochemical degradation due to erosive particle impact in a corrosive medium.

In this Special Issue, we welcome articles that focus on the recent evolution of research in all aspects of erosion, corrosion, and erosion–corrosion for both metallic and non-metallic materials.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Lubricants is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
