Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The AMSIC is the biennial congress of The African Membrane Society. With women making up half the board, the AMSIC will honor African Women in membrane technology with special events.

The AMSIC hosts conferences in Africa every other year. Having been to Tunisia, South Africa, and Senegal, this year we go east to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for our 4th International Congress (AMSIC-4) on November 5-8, 2024. Addis is a city known for its vibrancy and ancient traditions. As the headquarters of the African Union (AU), the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and several international organizations, this capital city exudes a modern and cosmopolitan air.

The AMSIC-4, much like its preceding versions, promises to be an exceptional event, bringing together several hundred experts from around the globe and key decision-makers from Africa. The AMSIC-4 is primarily a technical conference with an expanding commercial exposition. In addition to the usual technical discourse, the program will include expert panels, tutorials, and training sessions with delegates from all over Africa and the globe, in the form of panel discussions.

This Special Issue of Membranes devoted to the AMSIC-4 will explore the convergence of the research efforts undertaken in Africa and other regions of the globe across several disciplines, including the design of new materials, characterization methods and process monitoring, modelling studies and numerical analyses, green development, and end-use applications. In this context, we strongly support approaches promoting membrane sciences and technologies aimed at safeguarding the environment and creating resiliency initiatives.

One of the key features of the AMSIC-4 is its emphasis on bridging the gap between industry and academia. Special panel discussions and breakout sessions are planned to facilitate collaboration and the transfer of innovative membrane technologies from laboratory-scale research to production and industrial application. Keeping these new developments in mind, the AMSIC network is delighted to collaborate with Membranes while organizing its 4th International Congress in Africa and welcomes your active participation in this rewarding publishing experience.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Membranes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
