Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Wireless sensor networks play a crucial role in the integration of renewable energy resources into the smart grid. These networks enable the real-time monitoring and control of diverse renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, by collecting and transmitting data from sensors deployed throughout the grid infrastructure. The importance of wireless sensor networks lies in their ability to provide accurate and timely information on energy generation, consumption patterns, and grid conditions. This information enables the effective optimization of renewable energy utilization, improves grid stability, and facilitates the integration of distributed energy resources. However, the widespread deployment of wireless sensor networks also introduces security challenges. Since these networks transmit sensitive data, they become potential targets for cyber attacks, including unauthorized access, data tampering, and denial-of-service incidents. Ensuring the security of wireless sensor networks in the integration of renewable energy resources is vital to safeguard critical infrastructure and maintain the reliability and resilience of the smart grid. Robust security measures, such as encryption, authentication protocols, intrusion detection systems, and secure communication channels, are essential to mitigate these challenges and protect the integrity and confidentiality of the transmitted data.

This Special Issue on “Wireless Sensor Networks in Smart Grid” intends to present novel, resilient, and secure solutions for energy systems.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Enhancing data integrity and trust in distributed energy systems.
  • Streamlining energy transactions and billing in smart grids.
  • Improving transparency and accountability in distributed energy systems.
  • Mitigating cybersecurity risks in smart grids.
  • Enabling peer-to-peer energy trading.
  • Ensuring resilience and reducing single points of failure.
  • Automating and securing energy contracts for efficient control in distributed energy systems.
  • Facilitating real-time monitoring and control of distributed energy systems.
  • Enhancing system efficiency and cost-effectiveness in smart grids.
  • Fostering trust and collaboration among participants in distributed energy systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
