Dear Colleagues,
Spasticity is a serious consequence of several neurological diseases. This complication often contributes to increased disability and limits individual independence. Spasticity often influences the ability to perform daily activities and may even restrict possibilities to receive help from caretakers. There is an unmet need for knowledge among medical personnel about possibilities to change and prevent debilitating spasticity. The need for the management and modulation of spasticity should be continuously included in clinical evaluations both in general and specialized clinical practice. Therapy with Botulinum toxins is one of the advances that should be considered to improve function in spastic limb. Development and knowledge about indications and advisable and rational treatment has changed over time.
This issue aims to help with the optimal evaluation and management of spasticity using Botulinum toxins that may relieve individual disability and enhance independence. There is a need for updated knowledge of timing as well as possibilities to change functional status using Botulinum toxins. Information and reports of new possibilities to apply this therapy in spasticity are welcome. The latest data on spasticity and Botulinum toxin therapy, approaches, dosage and timeline, recommended routines, use of medical equipment, and follow-up studies are included to this issue. Implications of and approaches to treatment of different neurological disorders using Botulinum toxins need to be updated. Data from recent studies and/or observations are welcome in this issue.
