Leadership, and athlete leadership in particular, has been reported to be an important factor impacting upon team performance. However, while there is significant evidence supporting the importance of athlete leadership for teams, there is very little research exploring the leadership experiences and needs of female sports teams. As a result, the aim of this study was to explore the leadership experiences of the captains of professional women’s rugby teams. Participants included eight professional women’s rugby captains, recruited through personal contact. Data were analyzed adopting an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) approach, resulting in the emergence of 10 superordinate themes including: factors influencing success, challenges, amateur level, leader characteristics, role models, aspects of the role, types of captains, leading by example, selection, and women’s game. Data suggests that empathy, empowerment, collaboration and shared/devolved leadership are crucial components of leadership for elite women’s rugby teams. Full article

Youth-led STEM programming depends on skilled adult facilitators who can support authentic teen leadership, yet professional learning for developing these specialized skills remains understudied. Through three cycles of design-based research, we iteratively developed and studied a professional development model that trained informal educators from museums, libraries, afterschool programs, and schools to launch Teen Science Café programs—a youth-led model where teens organize STEM events. Analysis of data from trainer reflections, trainee interviews, trainee surveys, and implementation tracking across three iterative design cycles revealed six interconnected principles essential for effective professional development: focusing on a committed adult leader; personalized training characterized by mutual respect; learning by doing; establishing accountability that builds momentum; enabling learning from peers and near-peers; and recognizing success to nurture professional pride. Implementing these principles to prepare educators to center youth voice requires substantial, coordinated investment across stakeholders—commensurate with the complexity of developing youth agency and STEM identity in informal settings. From our findings, we contrast this approach with the “efficiency trap,” in which scaled training without sustained support wastes resources when many educators are trained but youth-centered programs fail to materialize. This study aims to examine the effect of authentic leadership on task performance in public organizations from sustainability perspective and to test whether supportive organizational culture plays a mediating role in this relationship. A quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional survey design was used for this study. A questionnaire form was used to collect data. Authentic leadership, task performance, and supportive organizational culture were measured using standard scales. After scale adaptation and factor analyses, one authentic leadership item was removed, resulting in a 15-item structure. Data were collected via Google Forms from 452 civil servants and contracted employees working in a metropolitan municipality in Turkey using convenience sampling. The data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 22 for CFA. Construct validity was established through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA and CFA). Internal consistency coefficients were found to be high. Common method bias was assessed using Harman’s single-factor test. Hypotheses were tested using PROCESS Macro Model 4 with 5000 bootstrap resamples. The findings indicate that authentic leadership does not have a significant direct effect on task performance. However, authentic leadership significantly and positively predicts supportive organizational culture, and supportive organizational culture significantly enhances task performance. Moreover, the effect of authentic leadership on task performance occurs indirectly through supportive organizational culture, indicating a full mediating role. The results suggest that, in public organizations, leadership effects are more likely to be transferred into performance outcomes when it is embedded in cultural norms and supportive practices. From a sustainability perspective, in the absence of direct measures of sustainability outcomes, self-reported task performance is interpreted as a proximal organizational outcome rather than a direct indicator of sustainability. Therefore, the study offers theoretically grounded sustainability implications for institutional continuity via supportive organizational culture, efficiency in the use of resources and service quality with the practices of green HR in the public sector. Future research should employ multi-source and multi-indicator measures of sustainability. Full article

Social media influencers (SMIs) have become effective intermediaries that influence consumer perceptions, attitudes, and behavioral intentions through their online presence and persuasion skills; this has made it imperative to comprehend how buyer-related variables contribute to brand loyalty within contemporary marketing research. This study, therefore, examines the effect of social media influencer capability on brand loyalty in Saudi Arabia, using brand trust as a mediating variable and authentic leadership as a moderating variable. Utilizing Social Exchange Theory and Authentic Leadership Theory, the study applied a quantitative cross-sectional survey design. Data were purposively collected from 476 active social media users in three major commercial hubs in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam). The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that authenticity and communication skills have a positive and significant influence on brand trust and brand loyalty, but expertise and influence only have a significant and positive influence on brand trust, not on brand loyalty directly, which means that the two constructs are indirectly influencing brand loyalty. The study also finds that authentic leadership significantly moderates the relationship between expertise, influence, and communication skills and brand loyalty, while the interaction with authenticity is not significant. Moreover, the mediation analysis shows that brand trust plays a significant mediating role in the relationships between communication skills, expertise and influence and brand loyalty, implying that the antecedents play a leading role in fostering loyalty by first developing trust. The study contributes to theory by offering a process-based perspective on the concept of brand loyalty that positions brand trust as a fundamental mechanism and authentic leadership as a vital enabling context. The findings have practical implications for organizations that want to strengthen brand loyalty through authentic communication, trust-building strategies, and leadership practices in social media-based contexts. Religious tourism is an evolving form of cultural and spiritual mobility that connects faith, community identity, and sustainable destination development. Despite its growing significance, few studies have examined service quality in pilgrimage contexts using the 4A framework (attraction, accessibility, amenities, and ancillary services), particularly in developing regions. This qualitative study explores how the 4A dimensions shape service experiences and sustainability practices in religious tourism across three Catholic pilgrimage sites in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia: Goa Maria Golo Koe, Goa Maria Golo Kaca, and Goa Maria Rekas. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews conducted with ecclesiastical leaders, including a diocesan priest and the Archbishop; key informant interviews with government and tourism actors; focus group discussions with local communities; and non-participatory field observations. The findings show that spiritual attraction remains the primary driver of pilgrim motivation, reinforced by local traditions and collective devotion. However, accessibility, amenities, and ancillary services are constrained by inadequate infrastructure, fragmented governance, and limited service standards. Despite these challenges, community voluntarism and the Church’s moral leadership help preserve the sanctity and authenticity of visitor experiences. This study introduces a Sacred Service Framework that integrates faith-based ethics with the 4A model to support sustainable, inclusive, and spiritually grounded religious tourism management. Green Transformational Leadership and Sustainable Nursing Practices: Evidence from the Healthcare Sector

The healthcare sector contributes approximately 4.4% of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet research on the organizational determinants of sustainable behaviors among healthcare workers remains limited. This study examines how green transformational leadership and ethical climate influence sustainable clinical behaviors among registered nurses, with green psychological climate as a mediator and perceived organizational hypocrisy as a moderator. Data were collected from 760 nurses across 11 public and private hospitals in Jordan using a cross-sectional survey design. Structural equation modeling with bootstrapping was employed to test the hypothesized relationships. The results revealed that both green transformational leadership (β = 0.215, p < 0.001) and ethical climate (β = 0.161, p < 0.001) positively predicted sustainable clinical behaviors. Green psychological climate partially mediated both relationships. Perceived organizational hypocrisy significantly weakened the positive effects of green transformational leadership (β = −0.153, p < 0.001) and ethical climate (β = −0.065, p < 0.01) on sustainable behaviors. The model explained 35.7% of the variance in sustainable clinical behaviors. These findings highlight that fostering sustainability in healthcare requires not only supportive leadership and ethical organizational environments but also authenticity and consistency between stated values and actual practices. The study extends green transformational leadership theory to healthcare settings, integrates ethical climate research with environmental sustainability, and introduces perceived organizational hypocrisy as a critical boundary condition. Practical implications for healthcare administrators seeking to reduce their environmental footprint are discussed. Full article

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) continues to place immense strain on health systems globally, with nurses at the centre of care delivery physically, emotionally, and relationally. In dialysis units, nurses form long-term therapeutic relationships with patients who depend on life-sustaining treatment several times a week. Objective: This study explored the lived experiences of professional nurses caring for patients with CKD in a dialysis unit, using Watson’s Theory of Human Caring as a guiding framework. Methods: A qualitative, exploratory, descriptive design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth face-to-face interviews with twelve professional nurses and analyzed using thematic analysis. Trustworthiness was ensured through credibility, dependability, confirmability, transferability, and authenticity. Ethical approval and informed consent were obtained. Results: Three themes emerged: (1) emotional and professional experiences, (2) systemic resource constraints, and (3) recommendations for practice improvement. These findings highlight the tension between caring ideals and systemic limitations. Conclusions: The study concludes that dialysis nursing is profoundly meaningful yet emotionally demanding. Strengthened emotional support, improved leadership visibility, consistent resource allocation, and enhanced nephrology nursing education are critical to sustaining compassionate care. The findings offer important insights for policy, workforce development, and quality improvement efforts in CKD care. Full article

The content and career cluster of agriculture, food, and natural resources (AFNR) provides opportunities for K-12 teachers to engage students to solve complex authentic problems that blend science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), yet limited research has been conducted on how to effectively leverage teaching and learning to integrate STEM using the context of AFNR through the school-based agricultural education program. This conceptual paper was developed through a collaborative sensemaking process focused on systems thinking as a way of knowing to integrate STEM within the contexts of AFNR, utilizing the SBAE program in the United States. A comprehensive career and technical education (CTE) program model of SBAE develops secondary education students’ career readiness skills through classroom and laboratory instruction, leadership development, and supervised agricultural experiences. The literature was reviewed to describe the current status of integrated STEM in SBAE, including learning by doing, solving real-world problems, application of content knowledge in out-of-school and community-based settings, learner-centered pedagogies, and development of career readiness skills for the workforce. By employing systems thinking as the theoretical framework and integrated STEM as a conceptual framework, the authors engaged in collaborative sensemaking of their professional and scholarly experiences and proposed findings and discussion of a three-model framework (i.e., teacher, program, and learning approach) to support integrated STEM education through AFNR and SBAE. Limitations of the framework are also discussed. The AFNR career cluster was used as the context to discuss how the three-model framework (i.e., teacher, program, and learning approach) of integrated STEM through AFNR could be operationalized for SBAE. Discussion and implications of the three-model framework for other career clusters in career and technical education (CTE) and non-formal education in community settings are presented. Conclusions and recommendations are provided for advancing STEM integration in SBAE for teacher development, program development, and research. Full article

This study examines whether environmentally specific authentic leadership promotes organizational citizenship behavior for the environment and contributes to organizational environmental sustainability. The study employed a three-wave survey design to collect data from 262 full-time employees in Chinese organizations, ensuring the results are both representative and reliable. The results show that environmentally specific authentic leadership is positively associated with employees’ organizational citizenship behavior for the environment. Environmentally specific authentic leadership is also positively related to environmental commitment, highlighting the importance of leadership for sustainable workplace behaviors. Additionally, the study found that environmental commitment partially mediates the relationship between environmentally specific authentic leadership and organizational citizenship behavior, underscoring the vital role of environmental commitment in fostering pro-environmental actions. Taken together, these findings clarify how environmentally specific authentic leadership influences organizational citizenship behavior for the environment through environmental commitment. Practically, the results suggest that organizations can encourage organizational citizenship behavior for the environment by developing leaders’ environmentally specific authentic leadership and implementing green human resource management practices. Consequently, the study offers actionable guidance for achieving environmental sustainability. Full article

Synoptic assessment has gained prominence in higher education as a way to bridge fragmented curricula by enabling students to synthesize knowledge across modules. However, structural integration through assessment does not automatically produce authentic learning. Drawing on theoretical analysis and three reflective case studies from UK undergraduate programmes, this paper offers a critical practitioner perspective on how synoptic assessment and authentic learning intersect in practice. We argue that integration and authenticity represent distinct pedagogical imperatives that require deliberate alignment. Through comparative analysis of successful, partially successful, and unsuccessful implementations of assessment strategies, we demonstrate that authentic learning emerges not from integration per se, but from intentional design embedding real-world relevance, developmental scaffolding, clear purpose, and student agency. Our case studies reveal that without such intentionality, synoptic assessments risk becoming structurally coherent but pedagogically hollow exercises that fail to engage students meaningfully. Key challenges include inconsistent staff understanding, inadequate contextual framing, and insufficient attention to progressive capability development. We propose practical design principles grounded in practitioner experience: embedding authenticity through professional relevance, scaffolding complexity appropriately, enabling open-ended student responses, and establishing strong programme-level leadership with authority over assessment strategy. The core contribution of the paper is to articulate these design principles for embedding authenticity within synoptic assessment at programme level, particularly in increasingly modularised and flexible curricula, such as those designed to enable lifelong learning. By positioning integration as necessary but insufficient for authentic learning, we advance critical understanding of assessment reform and address emerging tensions between programme coherence and increasingly modularized curricula serving diverse learner pathways. Whilst there has been substantial attention to care-experienced parents’ needs and experiences in the academic literature internationally, understandings of nascent services, their characteristics and implementation processes are more limited. With an overarching socioecological resilience systems framing and drawing on an innovation perspective, we aim to develop understanding of how to design and develop innovations to enable care-experienced parents’ successing. We conducted a narrative literature review that included 33 sources published internationally between 2017 and 2025. We conducted thematic analysis to identify adversities experienced by and innovations developed for care-experienced parents. We authenticated the themes in a workshop with members of the practice community and developed frameworks to represent the themes. Findings are represented in three sections. First, we consider parental needs, with an overview of adversities experienced by care-experienced parents together with individual protective factors and required service responses, framed by psychological, social and structural domains. Second, drawing upon such understanding, we consider intervention design, with a focus on exemplar innovations and the characteristics that are represented by five service delivery models: therapeutic; social; partnership; advocacy; and co-production. Third, with a need to ensure that service intervention is effective, we examine the process of developing service innovations and consider five dynamic ingredients that enable implementation success: shared leadership; receptivity of context; co-production; learning and adaption; and outcome measurement. Our review contributes new understanding to inform processes of designing and implementing innovations to enable care-experienced parents’ successing. We offer a framework that represents a starting point towards enabling care-experienced parents’ successing that can be applied in policy and practice, although more research is needed. Full article

This study examines how major global hotel groups construct sustainability through corporate communication, assessing both the thematic content and the internal coherence of their Environmental-Social-Governance (ESG) narratives. The research question is How do international hotel corporations construct sustainability through their corporate communication and ESG reporting? The research applies qualitative content analysis of sustainability reports from ten international hotel corporations and a four-layer discursive coherence model (performance, operational, narrative, strategic), the study analyses 888 coded quotations and 205 sustainability-theme occurrences in ATLAS.ti version 25, a qualitative data-analysis software. Results show that while measurable, performance-based disclosures dominate—such as digital food-waste monitoring, emissions-intensity reductions, and responsible sourcing—symbolic language remains strategically deployed to reinforce identity, purpose, and legitimacy. Across the sector, sustainability discourse converges around four recurring pillars: environmental performance leadership, community resilience, responsible business governance, and inclusive economic empowerment. The study advances theoretical work on sustainability communication by conceptualizing discursive coherence as an indicator of organizational authenticity and offers actionable insights for enhancing credibility and stakeholder trust in corporate ESG reporting. Through an unconventional lens of Barad’s feminist new materialism combined with Wieringa’s continuum of symbolic subversion, our analysis offers an important theoretical contribution by interpreting how these individuals negotiate and challenge institutional cisnormativity, unsettling the tacit expectations of gendered professionalism in their trans embodiment. Drawing on the experiences of three transgender and gender-diverse teacher participants, a group often overlooked, this paper integrates findings from two distinct qualitative studies which used a participatory-focused ‘object-interview’ methodology. Findings from these in-depth studies reveal that transgender and gender-diverse teachers trouble dress code regulations by simultaneously embodying resistance and compliance, effectively reshaping and disrupting gendered expectations and institutional norms. While some forms of self-affirmation expressed by participants remained unseen, others materialised as embodied subversions of normative organisational expectations. Additionally, the degree of agency these teachers have in resisting binary dress code constraints is contingent on the entanglements of the teachers themselves, students, school policies, leadership and institutional climates. Unexpectedly, this research suggests that schools can act as sites of visibility and safety for transgender and gender-diverse teachers, where gender expression is validated and extends beyond the classroom. This article concludes by recognising that, when transgender and gender-diverse teachers resist uniformity and dress code norms, they embody their affirmed identities and, in doing so, offer vital representation for transgender and gender-diverse students, providing a sense of belonging, possibility, and authenticity within educational spaces. With an emphasis on organizational outcomes and emerging leadership approaches, this review assessed the major contributions of leadership research over the past two decades and explored the evolution of theoretical developments in the field. Following more than twenty years of scholarly attention to leadership models and typologies, the aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the literature on leadership theories and their associated organizational variables. An exploratory and complementary research design was adopted to address the gaps left by previous systematic literature reviews. The findings indicate that, when organizational-level constructs are examined in relation to widely studied leadership theories, several dominant frameworks emerge, including transformational, transactional, laissez-faire, ethical, authentic, ambidextrous, and self-leadership. The results suggest that nearly all major organizational constructs have been investigated in connection with leadership development. Variables such as performance, job satisfaction, and personality appear most frequently, whereas terms such as life satisfaction, performance appraisal, and workplace bullying appear less often. Notably, a key finding of this review is the identification of several leadership theories present in the broader literature but absent from the ranking or co-occurrence analysis. These overlooked theories include instrumental leadership, dark leadership, hybrid, digital or e-leadership, and participative leadership. Full article

This study explores the persistent barriers hindering women’s meaningful participation in South African politics, with a particular focus on the widespread lack of support that women encounter across various social and institutional domains. Despite South Africa’s progressive constitutional and legislative framework promoting gender equality, the research reveals that many women in politics face systemic non-support from family structures, peer networks, community members, political parties, and even fellow women leaders. Using a feminist political theory lens, particularly liberal and radical feminism, the study focuses on how these barriers constrain women’s political participation at the local level. The study specifically investigates how lack of support affects women’s ability to participate, exercise influence, and access decision-making in local governance. Qualitative data drawn from in-depth interviews highlights experiences of tokenism, exclusion from decision-making, inadequate mentorship, and intra-gender rivalry. Political parties, in particular, emerge as critical gatekeepers that publicly promote gender equity while privately reproducing male-dominated power structures. The study concludes that achieving substantive equality requires more than representational quotas; it demands a structural shift in political culture, values, and leadership practices to foster inclusive and supportive environments that empower women to lead authentically and effectively.
