Three-wheelers (3Ws—autos or auto-rickshaws) occupy a unique yet salient and substantive position within the context of India’s urban mobility. They provide critical first-and-last-mile connectivity, fill public transit coverage gaps, boost local and urban agglomeration economies, and are a major income source for millions. Their value and utility are especially pronounced in rapidly emerging Tier-II cities such as Amritsar. The city’s 7500-strong diesel 3W (d3W) fleet is the backbone of its transportation network but also contributes to air pollution. Though Amritsar’s favorable policies to transition the d3W fleet to electric (e3W) have reduced purchase costs by 40–60%, barriers remain. This study investigates the influence of the e3W user experience through a first-of-a-kind three-day pilot trial for ~300 d3W drivers. By leveraging a pre- and post-intervention framework combining surveys and trip diaries, this study evaluated how direct exposure influences adoption intentions, perceptions, and the social dynamics underpinning decision-making. In total, ~6% of participants switched to e3Ws following the trial, and there was a 20% drop in “don’t know” answers regarding charging duration and range. The results show non-random and meaningful shifts in attitudes, a greater awareness of range and charging times, improved views on charging convenience and vehicle safety, and air quality benefits. Objective: To identify emotional, cognitive, and social factors associated with Romanian women’s intention to undergo cervical cancer screening (CCS). Methods: An online, cross-sectional, mixed-method survey was conducted among Romanian women. Quantitative statistics were performed to uncover associations, while inductive content thematic analysis was used to refine results. Results: 317 women responded. Previous history of CCS (OR = 7.564, CI = 3.523–16.241, p < 0.001), testing positive for HPV strains (OR = 30.176, CI = 1.828–498.049, p < 0.001), knowing that the infection can cause CC (OR = 4.398, CI = 1.117–14.994, p < 0.017), believing the infection is asymptomatic (OR = 2.919, CI = 0.883–8.411, p = 0.04 and being aware of the HPV vaccine (OR = 5.56, CI = 1.722–16.649, p = 0.002 were associated with the intention to undergo screening. Fear of receiving a cancer diagnosis (OR = 2.727, CI = 1.291–5.764, p = 0.009) was associated with higher intention to undergo screening, while shame and feelings of violated privacy negatively impacted the intention. High perceived chances of being infected (OR = 3.38, p = 0.002) and perceiving CCC as beneficial (OR = 7.634, p < 0.001) drove respondents to pursue CCS. Doctor’s recommendation (OR = 15.357) and partner’s support were associated with the intention to pursue CCS when anticipating an HPV infection (OR = 6.016, CI = 2.808–12.888, p < 0.001) or a diagnosis of CC (OR = 4.794, CI = 2.267–10.139, p < 0.001). When anticipating a diagnosis of CC, guilt (OR = 2.557) and fear of dying (OR = 2.253) were significant factors impacting women’s intention to screen. Qualitative analyses uncovered limited knowledge regarding HPV, a lack of awareness about the CCS’s advantages, low perceived susceptibility, and financial burden as factors deterring women from screening. Fear, responsibility, and previous personal or family history of cancer or symptoms were the main drivers motivating participants to engage in CCS. Conclusions: Findings highlighted key emotional, cognitive, and social factors that influence Romanian women’s intention to undergo CCS. This analysis can serve as a foundational support for developing future tailored interventions designed to address low addressability within the targeted population, especially as Romania is in a nascent state of creating population-based screening programs. With the rapid adoption of automated driving systems, ensuring safe and efficient driver takeover has become a crucial challenge for road safety. This study introduces a novel psychological framework for understanding and predicting takeover behavior in conditionally automated vehicles, leveraging an extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) model enriched by real-world driver experience. Drawing on survey data from 385 automated driving system users recruited in Shaoguan City, China, through face-to-face questionnaire administration covering various ADS types (ACC, lane-keeping, automatic parking), we demonstrate that driver attitudes, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms are significant determinants of takeover intention, collectively explaining nearly half of its variance (R2 = 48.7%). Importantly, our analysis uncovers that both intention and perceived behavioral control have robust, direct effects on actual takeover behavior. Crucially, this work is among the first to reveal that individual user characteristics—such as driving experience and ADS (automated driving system) usage frequency—substantially moderate these psychological pathways: experienced or frequent users rely more on perceived control and attitude, while less experienced drivers are more susceptible to social influences. By advancing a multi-dimensional psychological model that integrates personal, social, and experiential moderators, our findings deliver actionable insights for the design of adaptive human–machine interfaces, tailored driver training, and targeted safety interventions in the context of automated driving. Using structural equation modeling with maximum likelihood estimation (χ2/df = 2.25, CFI = 0.941, RMSEA = 0.057), this psychological approach complements traditional engineering models by revealing that takeover behavior variance is explained at 58.3%. Understanding the social drivers of pro-environmental behavior in urban forests and green spaces is critical for addressing sustainability challenges. Subjective norms serve as a key pathway through which social expectations influence individuals’ behavioral intentions. Despite mixed findings in the literature regarding the impact of subjective norms on individuals’ intentions, there is a research gap about the determinants of this construct. This study was conducted to explore how social expectations shape perceived subjective norms among visitors of urban forests. A theoretical model was developed with subjective norms at its center, incorporating their predictors including social identity, media influence, interpersonal influence, and institutional trust, personal norms as a mediator, and behavioral intention as the outcome variable. Using structural equation modeling, data was collected and analyzed from a sample of visitors of urban forests in Tehran, Iran. The results revealed that subjective norms play a central mediating role in linking external social factors to behavioral intention. Social identity emerged as the strongest predictor of subjective norms, followed by media and interpersonal influence, while institutional trust had no significant effect. Subjective norms significantly influenced both personal norms and intentions, and personal norms also directly predicted intention. The model explained 50.9% of the variance in subjective norms and 39.0% in behavioral intention, highlighting its relatively high explanatory power. These findings underscore the importance of social context and internalized norms in shaping sustainable behavior. Policy and managerial implications suggest that strategies should prioritize community-based identity reinforcement, media engagement, and peer influence over top-down institutional messaging. This study contributes to environmental psychology and the behavior change literature by offering an integrated, empirically validated model. It also provides practical guidance for designing interventions that target both social and moral dimensions of environmental action. Full article

This study developed and validated an integrated theoretical framework combining the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to investigate how driving assistance technologies (DATs) influence risky driving behaviors among young urban Chinese drivers. Based on this framework, we proposed and tested several hypotheses regarding the effects of psychological and technological factors on risky driving intentions and behaviors. A survey was conducted with 495 young drivers in Shaoguan, Guangdong Province, examining psychological factors, technology acceptance, and their influence on risky driving behaviors. Structural equation modeling revealed that the integrated TPB-TAM explained 58.3% of the variance in behavioral intentions and 42.6% of the variance in actual risky driving behaviors, significantly outperforming single-theory models. Attitudes toward risky driving (β = 0.287) emerged as the strongest TPB predictor of behavioral intentions, while perceived usefulness (β = −0.172) and perceived ease of use (β = −0.113) of driving assistance technologies negatively influenced risky driving intentions. Multi-group analysis identified significant gender and driving experience differences. Logistic regression analyses demonstrated that model constructs significantly predicted actual traffic violations and accidents. These findings provide theoretical insights into risky driving determinants and practical guidance for developing targeted interventions and effective traffic safety policies for young drivers in urban China. This study is titled “Success Factors in Transport Interventions: A Mixed-Method Systematic Review (1990–2022)”. The purpose of the systematic review is to (1) identify effective interventions for transitioning individuals from private car reliance to sustainable transport, (2) summarise psychosocial theories shaping transportation choices and identify enablers and barriers influencing sustainable mode adoption, and (3) determine the success factors for interventions promoting sustainable transport choices. The last search was conducted on 18 November 2022. Five databases (Scopus, Web of Science, MEDLINE, APA PsycInfo, and ProQuest) were searched using customised Boolean search strings. The identified papers were included or excluded based on the following criteria: (a) reported a modal shift from car users or cars to less CO2-emitting modes of transport, (b) covered the adoption of low-carbon transport alternatives, (c) comprised interventions to promote sustainable transport, (d) assessed or measured the effectiveness of interventions, or (e) proposed behavioural models related to mode choice and/or psychosocial barriers or drivers for car/no-car use. The identified papers eligible for inclusion were critically appraised using Sirriyeh’s Quality Assessment Tool for Studies with Diverse Designs. Inter-rater reliability was assessed using Cohen’s Kappa to evaluate the risk of bias throughout the review process, and low-quality studies identified by the quality assessment were excluded to prevent sample bias. Qualitative data were extracted in a contextually relevant manner, preserving context and meaning to avoid the author’s bias of misinterpretation. Data were extracted using a form derived from the Joanna Briggs Institute. Data transformation and synthesis followed the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institution for mixed-method systematic reviews using a convergent integrated approach. Of the 7999 studies, 4 qualitative, 2 mixed-method, and 30 quantitative studies successfully passed all three screening cycles and were included in the review. Many of these studies focused on modelling individuals’ mode choice decisions from a psychological perspective. In contrast, case studies explored various transport interventions to enhance sustainability in densely populated areas. Nevertheless, the current systematic reviews do not show how individuals’ inner dispositions, such as acceptance, intention, or attitude, have evolved from before to after the implementation of schemes. Of the 11 integrated findings, 9 concerned enablers and barriers to an individual’s sustainable mode choice behaviour. In addition, two integrated findings emerged based on the effectiveness of the interventions. Although numerous interventions target public acceptance of sustainable transport, this systematic review reveals a critical knowledge gap regarding their longitudinal impact on individuals and effectiveness in influencing behavioural change. However, the study may be affected by language bias as it only included peer-reviewed articles published in English. Due to methodological heterogeneity across the studies, a meta-analysis was not feasible. Further high-quality research is needed to strengthen the evidence. This systematic review is self-funded and has been registered on the International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols (INPLASY; Registration Number INPLASY202420011). Background: Immunization coverage in Nigeria is low, with many children missing out on important lifesaving vaccines. To enable a better understanding of contextual factors towards increasing uptake, we piloted a Decentralized Immunization Monitoring (DIM) approach in the Kumbotso local government area (LGA) of Kano state, Nigeria, to identify wards with low vaccination rates and understand why this is happening. The findings were used to improve routine immunization (RI) programs and reduce the number of unvaccinated children and children yet to receive their first dose of diphtheria–pertussis–tetanus (DPT) vaccine, referred to as Zero-Dose children (ZD). Methods: This study adopted a cross-sectional design approach using the Behavioural and Social Drivers of Vaccination (BeSD) framework and the Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS). The study population comprised caregivers of children aged 0–11 months and 12–23 months across the 11 wards in Kumbotso District, Kano State, Nigeria, using a segmentation sampling approach. The study covered 209 settlements selected using probability proportionate to size (PPS) sampling from the wards. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed to show patterns and relations across variables. Results: Out of 418 caregivers surveyed, 98.1% were female. Delayed vaccination was experienced by 21.9% of children aged 4.5–11 months, while the prevalence of ZD was estimated at 26.8% amongst the older cohort (12–23 months). A total of 71.4% of the delayed group and 89.1% of the ZD group remained unvaccinated. Caregiver education, rural residence, and home births correlated with delayed/ZD status (p < 0.05). Logistic regression associated higher caregiver education with reduced delayed vaccination odds (OR:0.34, p < 0.001) and urban residence with lower ZD odds (OR:1.89, p = 0.036). The antigen coverages of BCG (81.5%), DPT3 (63.6%), and measles 1 (59.7%) all surpassed the national dropout thresholds. Kumbotso, Unguwar Rimi, and Kureken Sani wards were all identified as underperforming and therefore targeted for intervention. Negative vaccine perceptions (50% delayed, 53.6% ZD) and distrust in health workers (46.4% delayed, 48.2% ZD) were significant barriers, though the caregiver intent to vaccinate was protective (OR: 0.27, p < 0.001). The cost of accessing immunization services appeared to have a minor effect on coverage, as the majority of caregivers of delayed and ZD children reported spending less than 200 Naira (equivalent to USD 0.15) on transport. Conclusions: This pilot study highlighted the utility of LQAS and BeSD in identifying low-performing wards, barriers, and routine immunization gaps. Barriers included low caregiver education, rural residence, and negative vaccine perceptions/safety. Caregiver education and urban residence were protective factors against delayed and ZD vaccination, suggesting social and systemic barriers, particularly in rural and less educated populations. Antigen-specific coverage showed disparities, with dropouts for multi-dose vaccines exceeding the national thresholds of 10%. Targeted measures addressing education, trust, and systemic issues are needed. Findings emphasize decentralized monitoring, community engagement, and context-specific strategies to reduce ZD children and ensure equitable vaccination in Nigeria. Full article

Background/Objectives: Influenza vaccination plays a crucial role in reducing morbidity and mortality among older adults; however, uptake remains suboptimal, particularly in the post-COVID-19 pandemic. In many settings, countries have not recovered their influenza vaccine coverage rates to the same level as pre-COVID. Therefore, this scoping review systematically identified the behavioral and social drivers (BeSD) influencing influenza vaccination among older adults using the BeSD framework. Methods: A systematic search across five databases included quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies involving individuals aged 60 years and older. Data were charted across four BeSD domains: thinking and feeling, social processes, motivation, and practical issues. Results: Thirty-nine studies from 24 countries were included. Key barriers encompassed safety concerns, misinformation, financial burdens, logistical challenges, and cultural and language barriers. While motivation was positively associated with vaccination intentions, the transition from intention to behavior remains underexplored, and practical issues have received comparatively limited research attention. Conclusions: These findings underscore the need for multifaceted, behaviorally informed interventions and greater inclusion of under-resourced settings to support equitable influenza vaccination strategies for healthy aging. Entrepreneurship has long been a key driver of economic development across various countries. Investigating the determinants of entrepreneurial behaviour is essential for making a meaningful contribution to sustainable development. This study investigated the determinants of entrepreneurial behaviour among university of technology and TVET college students in South Africa, utilising the modified theory of planned behaviour. Specifically, the study explored how risk-taking propensity, financial and non-financial support, media, and gender influence perceived behavioural control, entrepreneurial intention, and behaviour. Additionally, the study tested the direct effects of perceived behavioural control on both entrepreneurial intention and entrepreneurial behaviour, as well as the direct effect of entrepreneurial intention on entrepreneurial behaviour. An online, structured, self-administered questionnaire was utilised to gather data from 496 finalyear diploma students at a university of technology and a TVET college, using a convenience sampling technique. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was applied to analyse the data and test the postulated hypotheses. The findings revealed that non-financial support positively affected entrepreneurial intention, perceived behavioural control, and entrepreneurial behaviour, while financial support did not. Risk-taking propensity significantly influenced perceived behavioural control, entrepreneurial intention, and entrepreneurial behaviour. The results revealed that the gender was negatively related to perceived behavioural control, and female students exhibited lower perceived behavioural control than their male counterparts. However, gender showed no significant association with entrepreneurial intention or entrepreneurial behaviour. Media had a positive influence on both entrepreneurial intention and perceived behavioural control but did not significantly affect entrepreneurial behaviour. Additionally, both entrepreneurial intention and entrepreneurial behaviour were positively influenced by perceived behavioural control, while entrepreneurial intention also was positively associated with entrepreneurial behaviour. These findings underscore the critical role of fostering a supportive entrepreneurial environment in shaping entrepreneurial behaviour. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers and educators to cultivate an environment that supports students in developing as entrepreneurs. The results can inform policymakers in implementing support interventions aimed at enhancing entrepreneurial capacity among the youth. Promoting entrepreneurship is vital in achieving sustainable development goals through job creation and poverty alleviation. Full article

Food waste is a critical issue, with significant implications for global sustainability and the achievement of SDG 12.3, which aims to halve per capita food waste by 2030. This study explores consumer attitudes and behavioural intentions toward food waste reduction in food services in Slovenia, focusing on their willingness to support measures such as taking leftovers home, pre-ordering meals, and reducing portion sizes. Using an online survey with 802 respondents, we examined the behavioural drivers within the Motivation–Opportunity–Ability MOA framework and demographic predictors. The results from the regression analysis revealed that motivation significantly influenced both the likelihood of taking leftovers home and the acceptance of pre-ordering, though in opposite directions. Ability was a significant factor in pre-ordering acceptance, while perceived portion size importance negatively impacted acceptance of portion reduction. While meal quality and portion sizes remain the main causes of plate waste, ethical and environmental concerns were found to be the strongest drivers of consumers’ behaviour to reduce food waste. Support for interventions increased when convenience or financial incentives were offered. These findings highlight the need for targeted strategies that balance sustainability goals with consumer preferences and provide actionable recommendations for food service providers to reduce food waste effectively while aligning with consumer expectations. This study explores the public acceptance of autonomous vehicles (AVs) using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 framework. Drawing on survey data from 1000 commuters in Seoul, South Korea, this study examines the influence of performance expectations, effort expectations, social influence, hedonic motivation, and facilitating conditions on the behavioral intention to adopt AVs. Structural equation modeling reveals that hedonic motivation (β = 0.56, p < 0.001), price value (β = 0.47, p < 0.001), and performance expectancy (β = 0.64, p < 0.001) are critical determinants of AV acceptance. Additionally, risk perception negatively impacts behavioral intention (β = −0.25, p < 0.001), while policy support (β = 0.51, p < 0.001) and facilitating conditions (β = 0.46, p < 0.001) demonstrate substantial positive influences. Demographic analysis highlights age and gender as significant moderators, with younger users prioritizing performance expectancy and being more sensitive to risk, while older users exhibit a shift from hedonic to utility-driven motivations as they age. Women exhibit greater sensitivity to policy support and economic factors, while men respond more strongly to environmental considerations. In addition, prior experience with advanced driver assistance systems amplifies the influence of enjoyment on facilitating conditions, whereas inexperienced users are more affected by perceived risks. These findings underscore the importance of tailored interventions that address demographic variations, enhance user satisfaction, and balance cost-effectiveness with safety assurances. This study provides insights into actionable strategies for policymakers and industry leaders to promote AV adoption and support the evolution of sustainable urban mobility systems. Full article

Mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and reducing fossil fuel dependence have heightened interest in alternative fuels, particularly in agriculture, a key energy-intensive sector. This study investigates the use of the Technology Acceptance Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior to analyze Chinese farmers’ behavioral intentions to adopt alternative fuel machinery. In 2023, a total of 281 full-time farmers were sampled from Jiangsu, Sichuan, and Hebei provinces, followed by path analysis conducted using PLS-SEM. The results underline that perceived usefulness β = 0.369, p < 0.001, and social norms β = 0.185, p < 0.001 are strong drivers for the adoption of alternative fuel machinery, while perceived barriers to operate and infrastructure gaps act as inhibitors. Also, perceived benefits β = 0.235, p = 0.002, and perceived behavior control β = 0.157, p = 0.027 positively predict behavior intentions. This thus suggests that improvement in the technological infrastructure and increasing farmers’ awareness of the practical and economic benefits of alternative fuel machinery could result in a serious increase in adoption rates. This study does have weaknesses, as its focus on 50 mid-sized farms in the Midwest and utilization of self-reported data may limit the generalizability of its findings. This study, however, has major implications for policy and manufacturers to underscore the fact that targeted interventions through subsidies, training programs, and infrastructural development would be necessary to permit a transition toward sustainable energy in agriculture. Bariatric surgery is an effective long-term treatment for severe obesity, but relapse rates remain high. Digital interventions can enhance patient care, yet research on the intention to use digital discharge management interventions is lacking. This study aims to assess the behavioral intention to use digital discharge management interventions after bariatric surgery and to identify differences in sociodemographic and medical characteristics, as well as potential key drivers and barriers. A cross-sectional study with N = 514 patients was conducted using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Mean scores for behavioral intention and predictors were calculated. Group differences were analyzed with independent t-tests and analyses of variance with post hoc tests. Drivers and barriers were assessed through multiple hierarchical regression analysis. The behavioral intention to use digital discharge management interventions was high. Significant predictors included age (β = −0.17, p < 0.001), eHealth literacy (β = 0.10, p = 0.037), internet anxiety (β = −0.15, p = 0.003), and time since bariatric operation (β = −0.13, p = 0.005). The predictors performance expectancy (β = 0.23, p < 0.001), effort expectancy (β = 0.36, p < 0.001), and social influence (β = 0.26, p < 0.001) were significantly positive key factors. These results confirm the need for implementing digital discharge interventions after bariatric surgery, with various drivers and barriers identified for application usage. Full article

In-vehicle information system (IVIS) use while driving has raised concerns about driver distraction, especially for young drivers. To understand better their psychological factors, an extended theory of planned behavior (TPB) was employed to predict young drivers’ IVIS use intentions and behavior while driving. A two-wave longitudinal survey was conducted to explore the temporal effects of ‘intention–behavior’ causality. At Time 1, 236 qualified participants completed a main questionnaire assessing the standard TPB constructs (attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavior control) and the extended constructs (descriptive norms, moral norms, and perceived risks). At Time 2, 145 follow-up questionnaires measuring self-reported behavior were successfully administered. The hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that the standard constructs account for 36.5% of the intention variance and 41.2% of the behavior variance. The extended constructs additionally contributed 20.3% of intention variance. All variables were identified as significant predictors of intentions, except for perceived crash risks and perceived risks of being caught and fined. The sole significant predictor of prospective behavior was intention. Theoretically, the findings further support the efficacy of the TPB in explaining IVIS use while driving. Practically, it is helpful to design non-legal interventions that sustainably reduce young drivers’ engagement in IVIS-related distractions. Full article

Speeding is a significant global issue, with disparities in speed and safety outcomes between low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and high-income countries (HICs). This study aims to address speed research gaps in LMICs by examining the prevalence of self-reported speeding and factors influencing drivers’ speeding behavior using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). An online survey involving 387 anonymous drivers was conducted in Yaoundé. Results showed that all drivers reported exceeding speed limits, with 81% exceeding them by 5 km/h, 12% by 10 km/h, and 7% by more than 10 km/h in urban areas. On highways, 54% reported exceeding the limit by more than 10 km/h. Age, driver’s license, and gender showed significant associations with speed limit non-compliance. This study’s results suggest that the TPB can be useful in assessing speeding behavior, as the inclusion of TPB variables led to a more than 50% proportionate increase in speeding behavior variance. Structural equation modeling revealed attitude towards speeding as the strongest predictor of speeding intention, along with certain demographics indirectly influencing speeding behavior through speeding intention. Perceived behavioral control and speeding intention directly influenced speeding behavior. These findings emphasize the potential of interventions targeting attitude, intentions, and perceived behavioral control to modify speeding behavior and improve road safety. Full article
