Urban public spaces function as complex social and spatial systems, serving as fundamental elements in preserving cultural heritage and fostering democratic participation and urban stability. The dominant valuation methods depend on economic principles that prioritize financial returns and property values over social, ecological, and cultural aspects. This study examines the distinction between social value, which is based on personal experiences and social connections, and fair value, which relies on market operations and financial regulations. The research investigates how valuation practices affect spatial justice and urban governance through a conceptual framework and four empirical case studies: Syntagma Square in Athens, the metro station areas, the city of Barcelona, and waterfront redevelopment projects in Thessaloniki, London, and Mumbai. The official valuation systems we studied conceal the political elements of space while preserving social inequalities and forcing out the requirements of local communities. The proposed solution establishes an integrative, pluralist valuation system that incorporates qualitative, temporal, and ethical elements, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda. The framework transforms public space discussions from commercialized urban resources into communal civic systems, creating sustainable cities for all. Full article

Background/Objectives: Antibiotic resistance is a major public health concern, with considerable socio-economic consequences. Researchers are exploring alternative strategies, including nanotechnology, which has shown significance in targeted drug delivery. This study evaluates the synergistic antibacterial activity of azithromycin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (AZM-CSNPs) against azithromycin-resistant clinical respiratory isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae). Methods: A total of 87 sputum samples (n = 87) were collected and analyzed. The ermB gene for K. pneumoniae and the ermA gene for MRSA were used to confirm resistant isolates. Among 87 samples, 29 manifested K. pneumoniae, and 32 exhibited MRSA-positive cultures, confirmed through phenotypic and genotypic methods. The RT-PCR is performed by using a cDNA Kit to determine the gene expression. Results: The results elucidate resistance of K. pneumoniae against several antibiotics, including azithromycin (15 µg), chloramphenicol (30 µg), and amoxicillin (30 µg), while MRSA also showed resistance to cefoxitin (30 µg), azithromycin (15 µg), and gentamycin (10 µg). Reduction in the MIC value of the nanoparticle formulation showed their effectiveness. The AZM-CSNPs combined with cetirizine dihydrochloride helped to down-regulate the resistant genes. Conclusions: Notably, a strong synergistic effect was observed with AZM-CSNPs in combination with cetirizine, significantly enhancing antibacterial efficacy against resistant isolates. Full article

This study examined the impact of organizational capital (OC) on the cost stickiness of Japanese firms and analyzed whether this effect varies with the magnitude of sales changes. Using 12,727 firm-year observations from Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed firms between 2007 and 2024, we estimated the economic value of OC by capitalizing and amortizing selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) expenses, then classified firms into high- and low-OC groups based on the median. Cost stickiness was then compared across groups using the basic, ABJ, and extended models, with robustness checks based on adjusted OC and two-way fixed effects models. The results indicate that high-OC firms exhibit stronger cost stickiness, while low-OC firms display weaker or insignificant stickiness. The effect depends on the magnitude of sales fluctuations: stickiness is pronounced under small changes but diminishes or disappears under larger shocks. Overall, this study contributes by highlighting the role of organizational resources in shaping asymmetric cost behavior, extending explanations beyond adjustment costs or managerial incentives, and providing novel evidence from Japan, where firms generally exhibit cost stickiness regardless of OC level, reflecting institutional and cultural contexts. This study investigates the perceptions of halal food among theology students from three culturally diverse cities: Istanbul, Berlin, and Kuala Lumpur. As individuals receiving formal religious education, theology students are expected to exhibit strong awareness of Islamic dietary principles. Utilizing a quantitative research design, data were collected from 210 participants via online surveys using validated Likert-type scales measuring halal awareness, halal literacy, religious commitment, social influence, perceived behavioral control, price value, hedonic motivation, and consumption habits. One-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey tests revealed significant differences between cities in nearly all variables. Students in Kuala Lumpur consistently demonstrated higher scores, indicating a stronger alignment with institutionalized halal systems and collectivist cultural norms. Berlin participants reported lower awareness and influence levels, likely reflecting a more secular and individualistic environment. Istanbul students fell between the two, showing strong religious motivation but less structural support. The findings highlight how halal food perceptions are shaped not only by individual religiosity but also by cultural, political, and economic contexts. This study contributes to the literature by offering a cross-cultural perspective on halal consumption and underscores the importance of integrating structural and cultural factors into religious food behavior research. This research investigates the intersection of construction innovation and cultural heritage through the lens of tourist perceptions of the world’s largest carved golden Buddha, situated at Khao Chi Chan Mountain, Pattaya, Thailand. Positioned as an emerging tourism destination, this site contributes to the rebranding of Pattaya as a globally significant hub for religious tourism. This study highlights how this monumental Buddha statue fosters spiritual experiences, promotes the conservation of art and culture, and encapsulates a historical narrative tied to Thailand’s royal lineage. Notably, the statue’s creation employed a pioneering technique—the only one of its kind worldwide—involving laser-guided carving by artisans, followed by gold leaf application to enhance its aesthetic magnificence. A mixed-methods research approach was adopted, integrating historical document analysis with narrative accounts of the statue’s construction using modern technology, complemented by quantitative data collected through tourist questionnaires. By documenting the historical use of laser technology in creating this iconic Buddhist landmark, this research corrects misconceptions about its construction process and highlights the innovative application of a 20 W Argon ion laser for drawing the image of Buddha on the cliff. This study evaluates tourist perceptions using the DHARMA model, revealing how Destination Identity, Heritage Values, and Memorable Experiences foster emotional connections and spiritual enrichment (β = 0.801, p < 0.001). The findings underscore Khao Chi Chan’s potential to reposition Pattaya as a hub for Buddhist tourism, diversifying its image beyond nightlife-centric tourism. This work contributes to sustainable tourism by demonstrating how sacred sites can balance cultural preservation and economic vitality, offering insights for heritage management and urban tourism development in Southeast Asia. Processing economically and socio-culturally significant Amazonian fruits—andiroba (Carapa guianensis Aubl.), açai (Euterpe oleracea Mart.), and babassu (Attalea speciosa Mart. ex Spreng.)—generates substantial biomass waste, posing critical environmental and waste management challenges. This study explored the valorization of these abundant residual biomasses as sustainable feedstocks for biosurfactant production by bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa P23G-02, while simultaneously profiling their nutritional value and broader implications for a circular bioeconomy. Through liquid fermentation, biosurfactants were produced at an approximate yield of 6 mg/mL. The isolated biosurfactants exhibited favorable properties, including emulsification indices of around 60% and surface tension reduction to below 30 mN/m, with the andiroba-derived biosurfactant identified as a rhamnolipid type. Nutritional profiling of the residues revealed significant energy values, reaching up to 656 kcal/100 g, with açai and babassu residues being carbohydrate-rich (exceeding 80%), and andiroba residues exhibiting a high lipid profile (up to 57%). These distinct compositions critically influenced biosurfactant yield. These findings underscore the viability of Amazonian fruit biomass as valuable resources for developing eco-friendly bioproducts and innovative waste management solutions. While highlighting a promising pathway for circular bioeconomy development, future research should address biosafety and explore alternative microbial hosts for applications in sensitive sectors such as food and nutrition. Existing research on live-streaming e-commerce consumption behavior is mostly limited by a single disciplinary framework, unable to systematically parse the mechanism of macro-policies and cultural values on intergenerational consumer psychology. This study takes ASEAN cross-border live-streaming e-commerce as a scenario, integrates theories of economics, political science, and sociology, and constructs an innovative three-layer analysis model of “macroeconomic system–meso-market–micro-behavior” based on multi-source data from 2020 to 2024. It empirically explores the formation mechanism of intergenerational differences in impulse buying. The results show that the behavior differences of different groups are significantly driven by income gradient, cross-border policies (tariff adjustment and consumer protection regulations), and collectivism/individualism cultural orientations. The innovative contribution of this study is reflected in three aspects: Firstly, it breaks through the limitation of a single discipline, and for the first time, it incorporates structural variables such as policy synergy effect and family structure change into the theoretical framework of impulse buying, quantifying and revealing the differentiated impact of institutional heterogeneity in ASEAN markets on intergenerational behavior. Secondly, it reconstructs the transmission path of “cultural values–family structure–intergenerational behavior” and finds that the inhibitory effect of collectivism on impulse buying tends to weaken with age. Thirdly, it proposes a “policy instrument–generational response” matching model and verifies the heterogeneous impact of the same policy (such as tariff reduction) on different generations. This study fills the gaps in related research and can provide empirical support for ASEAN enterprises to formulate stratified marketing strategies and for policymakers to optimize cross-border e-commerce regulation. which is of great significance to promote the sustainable development of the regional live-broadcast e-commerce ecology. Tanacetum balsamita L. is a medicinal and aromatic plant of high economic value, yet its tissue culture and micropropagation protocols remain poorly developed. This study evaluated and compared two in vitro culture systems, semisolid medium (SS) and Temporary Immersion System (TIS), for enhancing biomass production and growth performance, in terms of relative growth rate (RGR), photosynthetic activity, chlorophyll content, antiradical capacity, and anatomical development. The results demonstrated that the TIS significantly improved RGR, photosynthetic performance, and antiradical activity, and promoted the anatomical development that facilitated greenhouse acclimatization. Machine learning (ML) models, including Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Random Forest (RF), were employed to predict morphological and biochemical traits. MLP achieved the highest predictive accuracy (R2 > 0.95) and lowest error metrics for complex, nonlinear traits such as chlorophyll content and antiradical activity, whereas RF excelled in predicting morphological traits with more uniform variance, such as leaf number and shoot length. Overall, this study demonstrates that the TIS provides a high-yield, economically crucial strategy for the micropropagation of T. balsamita, and that integrating ML-based predictive modeling can enhance parameter optimization and phenotyping precision. This combined approach offers a valuable framework for advancing tissue culture research in medicinal and aromatic plants through both production efficiency and data-driven decision-making. Global food systems face growing pressure from population expansion and climate change, making the identification of resilient crops a priority. The nopal cactus (Opuntia spp.) stands out for its capacity to thrive in arid environments and for its cultural and economic importance in Mexico. This study analyzes worldwide research trends and evaluates evidence from Mexico to identify opportunities and strategies for closing production cycles through residue valorization. Scientific output over the past decade shows steady growth and a thematic transition from basic agronomic and compositional studies toward sustainability, bioactive compounds, and circular economy approaches. In the Mexican context, applied studies demonstrate that Opuntia spp. cladodes residues can be transformed into composts with C/N ratios between 12 and 26, improving soil organic matter and nutrient availability. Biofertilizers produced through anaerobic fermentation enhanced phosphorus solubility in alkaline soils, while direct residue incorporation increased carrot and tomato yields up to threefold. Farmers recognize these practices as low-cost and compatible with local systems. Nevertheless, the lack of standardized protocols and scalable models limits widespread adoption. Strengthening research collaboration, policy incentives, and technology transfer could position Mexico as a leader in sustainable Opuntia value chains and advance circular economy practices in smallholder farming systems. Keratinous wastes, generated from various industries such as poultry processing, slaughterhouses, and salons, accumulate in the environment due to their slow degradation caused by high disulfide cysteine bonds. Traditional methods of managing these wastes, including incineration, composting, open-air burning, and landfilling, have several disadvantages, such as environmental pollution, release of toxic compounds, and breeding of pathogenic and multidrug-resistant microorganisms. Microbial keratinases, produced by bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes, offer an eco-friendly alternative for valorizing keratinous waste into valuable peptides and amino acids. The biodegradation of keratinous biomass involves four sequential steps: adhesion, colonization, production of keratinolytic enzymes, and breakdown of the keratin substrate. Optimization of culture conditions, such as pH, temperature, substrate concentration, and metal ions, can enhance keratinase production for industrial applications. Keratinases have multifaceted applications in various sectors, including cosmetics, organic fertilizers, leather treatment, animal feed, detergents, and pharmaceuticals. This review highlights the need to explore keratinolytic strains further and improve keratinase yields to develop sustainable solutions for keratinous waste management and generate value-added products, promoting a circular economy. The techno-economic considerations and current limitations in industrial-scale keratinase production are also discussed, emphasizing the importance of future research in this field. Full article

The Deliblato Sands Special Nature Reserve encompasses five municipalities and several settlements. This significantly protected region has a strong relationship between its ecosystem and the people who live there. The local population benefits from various advantages provided by this reserve. The residents’ quality of life greatly depends on the reserve’s resources. When used responsibly, they can guarantee a sustainable system with assets that are renewable. Additionally, both locals and tourists benefit from the utilization of forest space for recreation. Above all, endangered plant and animal species are protected in the Deliblato Sands woodlands. Therefore, the role of the local population in protecting this reserve is crucial for the survival of these species. Visitors from both domestic and foreign countries visit this reserve each year in considerable numbers. The study included a quantitative methodology, in which data were collected using questionnaires. The study’s goal is to find out whether the nature reserve has an impact on residents’ lives, activities, and habits, i.e., whether characteristics have an impact on respondents’ contentment. This research aims to examine how the protected area (PA) affects the life of the local community. A total of 1450 residents were surveyed regarding the impact of the Deliblato Sands ecosystem on their habits and activities. Analysis of the data indicates that the inhabitants are significantly impacted by the PA. The strongest impacts are grouped into the ecological and socio-cultural dimensions, while the economic dimension is the one with the weakest impact. The study’s value is evident in the crucial information that was supplied for the creation of national and local planning documents pertaining to the development of rural areas and tourism. The active participation of communities must be the foundation of any planning for tourism growth. Full article

Sea cucumber (Apostichopus japonicus) is an important economically cultured species in the northern coastal regions of China. Its body wall is rich in collagen, which directly determines product quality and market value. However, with the expansion of aquaculture scale, issues such as insufficient collagen deposition have led to inconsistent quality among cultured individuals. Therefore, there is an urgent need to improve growth performance and body wall quality through nutritional regulation. As functional nutrients, amino acids play key roles in collagen synthesis, yet relevant research on A. japonicus remains limited. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary proline on the growth performance, body wall collagen deposition and organoleptic quality of sea cucumber (initial body weight: 30.20 ± 2.02 g). Three kinds of feed with equal levels of nitrogen and other lipids, and supplemented with different concentrations of proline (0%, 1.5%, 3%) in the basal diet, were named P0, P1.5, and P3, and the experiment was conducted for 60 days. The results showed that supplementation with 3% proline significantly increased final body weight and weight gain rate (p < 0.05), reaching 66.39 g and 115.30%, respectively. Collagen content in the body wall increased by approximately 18.5% compared to the control group. Histological analysis of the body wall showed that the collagen fibers in the P1.5 and P3 groups were thicker, with an increased proportion of type I collagen. Texture profile analysis indicated that hardness, cohesiveness, and chewiness were significantly improved in the P3 group (p < 0.05). In summary, supplementation with 1.5% and 3% proline effectively enhanced growth, collagen deposition, and body wall quality. Compared to the P0 group, the relative expression levels of collagen type I alpha 2 chain (COL1A1), Sma- and Mad-related protein 1(SMAD1), and sp-smad2/3 (SMAD2/3) in the body wall tissue were significantly upregulated in both the P1.5 and P3 groups (p < 0.05). Digital transformation (DT) is rapidly reshaping education at multiple levels, including curriculum, instructional practices, and institutional culture. Within this context, entrepreneurship education has become a key field for preparing individuals to navigate uncertainty and generate social and economic value in a digital society. Entrepreneurial competencies are increasingly conceptualized as a multidimensional construct that encompasses creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy. This study aims to identify core entrepreneurial competencies relevant to the digital era and examine how technology-integrated instructional strategies contribute to their development. A systematic literature review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines, analyzing 72 peer-reviewed journal articles published between January 2021 and June 2025. The findings indicate that DT drives structural changes in education beyond tool adoption, with technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and digital collaboration platforms serving as catalysts for innovative thinking and entrepreneurial behavior. These technologies are not merely supportive tools but are embedded in competency-based learning processes. This review provides a comprehensive competency framework integrating three domains, AI-collaborative pedagogy validation, and implementation strategies, enabling educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers to redesign entrepreneurship education that aligns with the realities of digital learning environments and fosters future-ready entrepreneurial capabilities. This conceptual framework theoretically systematizes the integration of innovative thinking and ethical execution capabilities required in the digital era, contributing to defining the future direction of entrepreneurship education. This study explores how older Chinese migrants in London engage with climate change discourse using participatory co-design workshops. Although already practising sustainability behaviours such as recycling, this group faces significant barriers—particularly language difficulties and cultural differences—that limit their active participation in broader climate initiatives. The research addresses three key aspects: (1) identifying opportunities for sustainable practices within migrants’ daily routines; (2) understanding their influential roles within families and communities; and (3) examining their trusted sources and preferred channels for climate communication. Results highlight that family and community networks, combined with digital platforms (e.g., WeChat) and visually engaging materials, play essential roles in disseminating climate information. Participants expressed strong motivations rooted in intergenerational responsibility and economic benefits. The findings emphasise the necessity of inclusive and peer-led communication strategies that are attuned to older migrants’ linguistic preferences, media habits, and cultural values—underscoring their significant but often overlooked potential to meaningfully contribute to climate action. Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.), a key herb in Mediterranean cuisine, holds substantial economic and cultural value due to its aromatic and medicinal properties. Cultivated globally, particularly in Italy’s Liguria region, basil is consumed both fresh and processed, with pesto sauce as its most notable derivative. Despite its commercial success, basil production is significantly constrained by a broad spectrum of fungal pathogens, with Peronospora belbahrii, the causal agent of downy mildew, posing the most severe threat. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of basil’s disease susceptibility and control. Special emphasis is placed on the biology, epidemiology, global spread, and diagnosis of P. belbahrii, which has become a critical challenge for both conventional and organic farming systems. Disease management strategies, including cultural practices, genetic resistance, fungicide applications, resistance inducers, and biocontrol agents, are reviewed in detail. The development of downy mildew-resistant cultivars—although limited for PDO-designated Genovese basil—has emerged as the most sustainable control measure; however, the increasing genetic variability in P. belbahrii underscores the ongoing need for integrated pest management and resistant cultivar development. Seed health and quality remain the starting points of any fully integrated approach, although the suggested management measures for basil production should be combined with appropriate cultivation techniques aimed at reducing the relative humidity of the environment, while taking into account whether basil production takes place in open fields or under protection.
