The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is driving a profound transformation in higher education, shifting traditional learning toward digital, remote, and AI-mediated environments. This shift—accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic—has made computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) a central pedagogical model for engaging students in virtual, interactive, and peer-based learning. However, while these environments enhance access and flexibility, they also introduce new emotional, social, and intercultural challenges that students must navigate without the benefit of face-to-face interaction. In this evolving context, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has become increasingly essential—not only for supporting student well-being but also for fostering the self-efficacy, adaptability, and interpersonal competencies required for success in AI-enhanced academic settings. Despite its importance, the role of SEL in higher education—particularly within CSCL frameworks—remains underexplored. This study investigates how SEL, and specifically cultural empathy, influences students’ learning experiences in multicultural CSCL environments. Grounded in Bandura’s social cognitive theory and Allport’s Contact Theory, this study builds on theoretical insights that position emotional stability, social competence, and cultural empathy as critical SEL dimensions for promoting equity, collaboration, and effective participation in diverse, AI-supported learning settings. A quantitative study was conducted with 258 bachelor’s and master’s students on a multicultural campus. Using the Multicultural Social and Emotional Learning (SEL CASTLE) model, the research examined the relationships among SEL competencies and self-efficacy in CSCL environments. Findings reveal that cultural empathy plays a mediating role between emotional and social competencies and academic self-efficacy, emphasizing its importance in enhancing collaborative learning experiences within AI-driven environments. The results highlight the urgent need to cultivate cultural empathy to support inclusive, effective digital learning across diverse educational settings. This study contributes to the fields of intercultural education and digital pedagogy by presenting the SEL CASTLE model and demonstrating the significance of integrating SEL into AI-supported collaborative learning. Strengthening these competencies is essential for preparing students to thrive in a globally interconnected academic and professional landscape. Full article

Developing multicultural leadership in youth is crucial for fostering social harmony, emphasizing cross-cultural communication, adaptability, creative problem solving, and ethical leadership, particularly in Thailand’s three southern border provinces. This study aimed to analyze the confirmatory factors and assess the validity of the measurement model for multicultural leadership among youth in Thailand’s three southern border provinces. The study sample comprised 640 participants, and the data were analyzed using second-order confirmatory factor analysis. The findings revealed that multicultural leadership among youth in the region consists of the following six key components: (1) awareness and acceptance of cultural diversity, (2) intercultural communication skills, (3) flexibility and adaptability in multicultural contexts, (4) creative problem solving in a multicultural context, (5) building intercultural collaboration networks, and (6) developing culturally relevant morality and ethics. The measurement model demonstrated a good fit with the empirical data. Considering the Chi-square value of 411.81, p-value of 0.07, the relative Chi-square (χ2/df) was 1.11, the Goodness-of-Fitness Index (GFI) was 0.96, the Adjusted Goodness-of-Fitness Index (AGFI) was 0.94, and the Root Mean Square Residuals Index (SRMR) was 0.03. These findings provide valuable insights for formulating effective policies and concrete strategies to enhance and develop multicultural leadership among youth in diverse sociocultural contexts. Background: Multicultural education and second-language acquisition engaged neural networks, supporting executive function, memory, and social cognition in adulthood, represent powerful forms of brain-inspired multisensory learning. The neuroeducational framework integrates neuroscience with pedagogical practice to understand how linguistically and culturally rich environments drive neuroplasticity and cognitive adaptation in adult learners. Objective: This systematic review synthesizes findings from 80 studies examining neuroplasticity and cognitive outcomes in adults undergoing multicultural and second-language acquisition, focusing on underlying neural mechanisms and educational effectiveness. Methods: The analysis included randomized controlled trials and longitudinal studies employing diverse neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, MEG, DTI) to assess structural and functional brain network changes. Interventions varied in terms of immersion intensity (ranging from limited classroom contact to complete environmental immersion), multimodal approaches (integrating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic elements), feedback mechanisms (immediate vs. delayed, social vs. automated), and learning contexts (formal instruction, naturalistic acquisition, and technology-enhanced environments). Outcomes encompassed cognitive domains (executive function, working memory, attention) and socio-emotional processes (empathy, cultural adaptation). Results: Strong evidence demonstrates that multicultural and second-language acquisition induce specific neuroplastic adaptations, including enhanced connectivity between language and executive networks, increased cortical thickness in frontal–temporal regions, and white matter reorganization supporting processing efficiency. These neural changes are correlated with significant improvements in working memory, attentional control, and cognitive flexibility. Immersion intensity, multimodal design features, learning context, and individual differences, including age and sociocultural background, moderate the effectiveness of interventions across adult populations. Conclusions: Adult multicultural and second-language acquisition represents a biologically aligned educational approach that leverages natural neuroplastic mechanisms to enhance cognitive resilience. Findings support the design of interventions that engage integrated neural networks through rich, culturally relevant environments, with significant implications for cognitive health across the adult lifespan and for evidence-based educational practice.
