Background: Tobacco use remains a major public health concern among young adults and is often complicated by co-occurring addictive behaviors. Objective: This study analyzed motivation for change, assessed with the decisional balance framework, in relation to multiple addictions among young smokers seeking treatment. Methods: Ninety-eight participants from the University of Granada enrolled in either an app-based cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT) program (n = 35) or a traditional face-to-face CBT program (n = 63). Recruitment relied on self-identification and voluntary participation. Standardized instruments were applied to measure nicotine dependence (FTND), behavioral and substance-related addictions (MULTICAGE CAD-4), cannabis dependence (SDS), and motivation for change (DBQ). Logistic and stepwise regression analyses were conducted to identify predictors of treatment choice and motivational outcomes. Results: Younger participants and students were more likely to choose the app-based program. Compulsive buying was linked to perceiving more disadvantages of smoking, whereas sex addiction, cannabis dependence, and other substance addictions were associated with perceiving fewer disadvantages. Conclusions: Treatment preferences and motivational profiles differ according to age, academic status, and co-occurring addictions. These findings highlight the need to tailor smoking cessation strategies to individual profiles and support the role of mobile health tools in engaging digitally oriented populations. Full article

Despite progress in inclusive education, students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) often lack valid, tailored tools for career assessment, limiting equitable transitions to adulthood and employment. Closing this gap is crucial for Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which calls for quality and inclusive educational opportunities. This study addresses this need by adapting and validating a 16-item Career Maturity Inventory-Form C (CMI-C) for Chinese post-secondary SEN students (n = 34) in vocational training in higher education. Rasch modeling, supported by exploratory factor analysis, indicated that a two-factor structure—‘career choice readiness’ and ‘intention to seek career consultation’—provided the best fit to the data, rather than the originally hypothesized four-factor model. The results were more consistent with a two-dimensional structure than with prior four-factor frameworks, though both were explored. Two poorly performing items were removed, resulting in a fourteen-item scale with acceptable item fit and reliability indices in this hard-to-reach group. This restructuring suggests constructs such as concern, confidence, and curiosity are closely linked in SEN populations, underscoring the value of context-sensitive assessment. The revised instrument demonstrated satisfactory model fit and internal consistency; however, convergent validity and practical utility should be interpreted cautiously given the modest sample size. While further validation in larger and more diverse samples is warranted, this study offers preliminary evidence for an adapted, inclusive assessment tool that aligns with SDG 4’s aim to promote equity and empower SEN students in educational and career pathways. This study investigates the evolutionary game dynamics of medical knowledge sharing (KS) among Chinese hospitals under government regulation, focusing on the strategic interactions between general hospitals, community health service centers, and governmental bodies. Leveraging evolutionary game theory, we construct a tripartite evolutionary game model incorporating replicator dynamics to characterize the strategic evolution of the involved parties. Our analysis examines the regulatory decisions of the government and the strategic choices of Chinese hospitals, considering critical factors such as KS costs, synergistic benefits, government incentives and penalties, and patient evaluations. The model is analyzed using replicator dynamic equations to derive evolutionary stable strategies (ESSs), complemented by numerical simulations for sensitivity analysis. Key findings reveal that the system’s equilibrium depends on the balance between KS benefits and costs, with government regulation and patient evaluations significantly influencing Chinese hospital behaviors. The results highlight that increasing government incentives and penalties, alongside enhancing patient feedback mechanisms, can effectively promote KS. However, excessive incentives may reduce willingness to regulate, suggesting the need for balanced policy design. This research provides novel theoretical insights and practical recommendations by (1) pioneering the application of a tripartite evolutionary game framework to model KS dynamics in China’s hierarchical healthcare system under government oversight, (2) explicitly integrating the dual influences of government regulation and patient evaluations on hospital strategies, and (3) revealing the non-linear effects of policy instruments. These contributions are crucial for optimizing Chinese medical resource allocation and fostering sustainable collaborative healthcare ecosystems. Full article

In pursuit of a higher-quality post-pandemic economic recovery, Chinese authorities have accelerated the development of the e-CNY. This study posits that the e-CNY distinguishes itself from other payment instruments through its controlled anonymity, programmability, and non-interest-bearing attributes. By analyzing patents filed by the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China between 2016 and 2023, the paper elucidates potential implementation strategies for these distinctive features. The findings suggest that the e-CNY may facilitate a zero-interest accrual model within the prevailing legal framework. Restricted authority access and the anonymity ensured by encrypted data further allow users to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Additionally, conditional automatic transfers—a prominent function in the e-CNY’s smart contracts—mirror traditional automatic transfers for directed fund utilization without impeding the circulation of fiat currency. The People’s Bank of China has sought to thoughtfully integrate these functionalities into its Central Bank Digital Currency framework, aiming to minimize potential conflicts with existing legal standards. Instead of relying solely on extensive legislative revisions, China’s experience illustrates how deliberate and incremental CBDC design choices can reconcile regulatory compliance with innovative technological advancements. The advancement of sustainable economic development has become a strategic imperative for enterprises aiming to combine financial development with environmental and social responsibility. In this regard, strategic enterprise management (SEM) has a critical role in incorporating the aspects of sustainability into decision making. The present paper suggests a multicriteria decision-making framework that utilizes fuzzy TOPSIS in assessing and ranking sustainability integration aspects in organizations. By considering the intrinsic vagueness of sustainability analysis, the fuzzy TOPSIS model enables the systematic analysis of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors by companies for ensuring their alignment to corporate strategic goals. A case study of a major international airport in Greece demonstrates how the proposed methodology assists strategic choice making, balancing economic viability and sustainable value creation. The results show primary trade-offs among human capital investment, environmental footprint reduction, and stakeholder communication, demonstrating how companies can enhance long-term resilience and competitiveness. This research adds to the existing literature by giving an integrated strategic enterprise management framework with the use of decision support instruments to foster sustainability-oriented corporate governance and strategic efficacy. The suggested model is flexible and can be applied in any industry, hence being a benchmark for sustainable business practice. This paper contributes to the literature by integrating fuzzy TOPSIS with balanced scorecard in the context of airport strategic sustainability management, offering both methodological advancement and empirical insights for transport and supply chain enterprises. Cyberbullying is a pervasive social issue that has gained increasing attention due to its serious consequences, such as cyberbullicide, which is suicide resulting from cyberbullying. Researchers have called for various interventions and the involvement of multiple stakeholders, including psychologists and law enforcement agencies, to address the problem. Recent studies have shown that the majority of cyberbullying incidents occur on mobile devices, referred to as mobile bullying. Therefore, there is a need to focus intervention efforts on mobile bullying, which is a subset of cyberbullying. The objective of this study was to develop a framework that could guide the creation of an awareness intervention aimed at raising awareness of mobile bullying. Although several meta-analyses have been conducted over the years on intervention effectiveness. There is a gap from the lack of frameworks and requirements to guide the development of awareness interventions. As such, a PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses) systematic literature review was conducted to identify the theories that could inform the development of such an intervention. Based on the review, a theoretical framework was developed that incorporated the basic elements identified as guiding principles for the development of awareness interventions. In the same way, theory, specifically SAT was used to inform the development of an instrumental framework for designing context-sensitive awareness interventions, incorporating the basic elements that practitioners can use to develop context-sensitive awareness interventions. The findings from the study indicate that the social context, which encompasses the social issue at hand; available media content; the proximal and distal environments; and the choice of awareness tool, which is informed by the marketing mix (i.e., price, product, people, promotion, and place), affect the reach or distribution of the intervention. The theoretical framework contributes to the body of knowledge on the subject, while the instrumental framework provides a practical approach to building customizable interventions that can be tailored to specific contexts and available resources for awareness. This paper addresses public acceptance of a proposed sub-regional, hydrogen–electric, aviation service reporting initial empirical evidence from the UK HEART project. The objective was to assess public acceptance of a wide range of service features, including hydrogen power, electric motors, and pilot assistance automation, in the context of an ongoing realisable commercial plan. Both qualitative and quantitative data collection instruments were leveraged, including focus groups and stakeholder interviews, as well as the questionnaire-based Scottish National survey, coupled with the advanced discrete-choice modelling of the data. The results from each method are presented, compared, and contrasted, focusing on the strength, reliability, and validity of the data to generate insights into public acceptance. The findings suggest that public concerns were tempered by an incomplete understanding of the technology but were interpretable in terms of key service elements. Respondents’ concerns and opinions centred around hydrogen as a fuel, single-pilot automation, safety and security, disability and inclusion, environmental impact, and the perceived usefulness of novel service features such as terminal design, automation, and sustainability. The latter findings were interpreted under a joint framework of technology acceptance theory and the diffusion of innovation. From this, we drew key insights, which were presented alongside a discussion of the results. Full article

Residents’ choices of green assets typically involve investing in or selecting environmentally beneficial products. How does climate change affect these choices? This study empirically finds that residents’ perception of climate change significantly enhances their adoption of green assets. This positive effect is particularly pronounced among women and residents who are familiar with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. Moreover, residents’ ecological values (i.e., their willingness to spend more on environmental protection) mediate all hypothesized relationships. Focusing on green assets in the context of green consumption, this study reveals patterns in residents’ green asset choices across different quantiles. Furthermore, it integrates ecological values into the research framework and provides reusable instrumental variables for future studies. Finally, tailored policy recommendations are proposed based on population heterogeneity to encourage the adoption of green assets. Full article

Accurate vertical load measurement through intelligent tire technology is crucial for vehicle stability, handling, and safety. Existing studies have mainly focused on modeling and bench experiments, overlooking a detailed comparative analysis of real sensor performance and validation under actual driving conditions. This study addresses this gap by performing sensor comparisons and extensive real-road validation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the proposed methods. First, finite element modeling (FEM) is used to assess the feasibility of accelerometer and strain-based sensors for vertical load prediction. High-precision bench tests quantitatively compare the performance of multiple triaxial Integrated Electronics Piezoelectric (IEPE) accelerometers and Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) sensors, identifying accelerometers as the superior choice due to their better stability and linearity. Vertical load prediction algorithms are developed using Support Vector Machine (SVM) and linear regression, considering variables like contact length, vehicle speed, and tire pressure. The algorithms are validated under real-road conditions using high-performance instruments across constant speed, acceleration, braking, and cornering, and a self-designed compact Intelligent Tire Test Unit (ITTU) is deployed for product-level implementation, confirming its effectiveness in real-world driving scenarios. The findings provide a validated framework for accurate vertical load estimation and real-time tire parameter prediction, offering practical insights for improving intelligent tire technology in dynamic driving conditions. Vacuum-assisted and forceps-assisted vaginal births are associated with higher rates of formula supplementation and shorter breastfeeding duration compared to unassisted vaginal births; however, the reasons for this are unclear. Factors such as maternal knowledge, partner support, and parity significantly influence breastfeeding initiation and duration. The prevalence of perineal trauma, neonatal and maternal birth complications, and decreased birth satisfaction is higher after assisted births and may also impact breastfeeding outcomes. Given the limited research on the specific effects of different vaginal birth modes on breastfeeding, this study aimed to examine women’s experiences of establishing breastfeeding after unassisted, vacuum-assisted, and forceps-assisted vaginal birth. A mixed-methods study design was employed using an anonymous online questionnaire, which included binary, multiple choice, and open-ended questions, and Likert scale items. Using social media, we recruited Australian women who had an unassisted, vacuum-assisted, or forceps-assisted birth within the last year. Details of participant demographics, breastfeeding history, initiation and establishment, postpartum mobility, and pain ratings were recorded. Additionally, qualitative data on postpartum recovery and breastfeeding support were analysed using an inductive thematic analysis framework. A total of 565 women were recruited between May and June 2024, of which 488 responses were retained for analysis. Thematic analysis of the qualitative responses identified four central themes that defined women’s experiences of establishing breastfeeding and were similar between unassisted or assisted vaginal birth modes: Experience of Care, Environment, Expectations, and Health Complications. A range of both positive and negative experiences of breastfeeding support, environmental factors, and expectations of the realities of breastfeeding impacted women’s experiences. For many women, various maternal and/or newborn health issues, nipple pain, and latching difficulties made breastfeeding more difficult. Commercial milk formula supplementation during the hospital stay was more prevalent after a forceps-assisted birth when compared to unassisted vaginal birth (41% vs. 17%, respectively; p < 0.001). Further, during the first two weeks at home, commercial milk formula supplementation was more prevalent after both forceps-assisted (26%) and vacuum-assisted (23%) births than after unassisted vaginal birth (8%, p < 0.001). Pain ratings in the early days following birth and in the first two weeks at home were significantly higher for the forceps-assisted group than for the other vaginal birth modes (p ≤ 0.005). Women that had an unassisted vaginal birth with an intact perineum had the lowest pain ratings in the early days and weeks after birth, while pain ratings were similar between women that had a vacuum-assisted birth and those who had an unassisted vaginal birth with a perineal tear or episiotomy (p = 0.05). Early commercial milk formula supplementation is associated with shorter breastfeeding duration, while postpartum pain is known to impede maternal mobility and may partially inhibit the milk ejection reflex, potentially negatively impacting breastfeeding and increasing formula use. Therefore, women who have an instrumental assisted vaginal birth, particularly those who have a forceps-assisted birth, are at greater risk of suboptimal breastfeeding outcomes including short durations of exclusive and any breastfeeding. Improvements to early postpartum pain management, breastfeeding education, and the judicious use of commercial milk formula may improve breastfeeding and subsequent maternal and health outcomes after instrument-assisted vaginal birth. This study reports on the development and validation of a video-based instrument to assess early childhood education (ECE) teachers’ professional vision (PV) of language-stimulation (LS) interactions. PV refers to noticing and reasoning about key classroom interactions, a skill that can be trained and distinguishes experts from novices. The instrument targets the PV of three language-stimulation (LS) strategies: language input (LI), opportunities for language production (OLP), and feedback (FB). The instrument measures noticing through comparative judgement (CJ) and reasoning through multiple-choice items. Construct validity was assessed using the AERA framework, using three samples: a sample of professionals (n = 22), a pre-service teachers’ sample (n = 107), and a mixed sample with in- and pre-service teachers (n = 6). Reliability and validity were confirmed, with strong reliability scores for the CJ aggregated “master” rank orders (SRR: 0.827–0.866). Think-aloud procedures demonstrated that respondents’ decisions during CJ were mainly based on LS-relevant video features. Decisions unrelated to LS require further study. Multiple-choice reasoning items were developed from professionals’ open-ended feedback. Pre-service teacher reasoning scores showed no significant predictors. Using real classroom videos, this instrument provides an ecologically valid, scalable tool for assessing teachers’ professional vision of LS interactions. This validated instrument offers a foundation for professional development programs aimed at addressing the theory–practice gap in early language education. Full article

The paper is set within the methodological framework of the Territorial Impact Assessment (TIA) process, which is an instrument designed to facilitate sustainable and cohesive policy-making choices at the European level. The article is developed within the context of a European H2020-RICE cooperative project, which utilises the STeMA (Sustainable Territorial Economic/Environmental Management Approach) TIA methodology to investigate the potential relationship between statistical economic indicators, specifically Gross Domestic Product, and related parameters (metadata), and Earth Observation (EO) data. The objective is to provide evidence of socioeconomic trends during the Coronavirus 2019 pandemic in the Lazio Region (Italy), with a particular focus on the metropolitan area of the Rome capital city Rome. In line with the pertinent European context and the scientific literature on the subject, the paper examines the potential for combining classical and Earth observation indicators to assess macroeconomic dimensions of development, specifically in terms of gross domestic product (GDP). The results of the analysis indicate the presence of certain correlations between grey data and EO information. The STeMA-TIA approach allows for the measurement and correlation of both qualitative and quantitative statistical indicators with typological functional areas (in accordance with European Commission-EC and Committee of Ministers responsible for Spatial/Regional Planning—CEMAT guidance) at the NUTS (Nomenclature des unités territoriales statistiques) 2 and 3 levels. This facilitates the territorialisation of information, enabling the indirect comparison of data with satellite data and economic trends. A time series of data was gathered and organised for the purpose of facilitating comparison between different periods, beginning with 2019 and extending to the present day. In order to measure and monitor the evolution of the selected territorial economies (the Lazio Region), a synthetic index (or composite indicator) was developed in the economic and epidemic dimensions. This index combines single values of indicators according to a specific STeMA methodology. It is important to note that there are some critical observations to be made about the impact on GDP, due to the discrepancy between the indicators in the two fields of observation. Full article

The preparation of samples for instrumental analysis is the most essential and time-consuming stage of the entire analytical process; it also has the greatest impact on the analysis results. Concentrating the sample, changing its matrix, and removing interferents are often necessary. Techniques for preparing samples for analysis are constantly being developed and modified to meet new challenges, facilitate work, and enable the determination of analytes in the most comprehensive concentration range possible. This paper focuses on using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as sorbents in the most popular techniques for preparing liquid samples for analysis, based on liquid-solid extraction. An increase in interest in MOFs-type materials has been observed for about 20 years, mainly due to their sorption properties, resulting, among others, from the high specific surface area, tunable pore size, and the theoretically wide possibility of their modification. This paper presents certain advantages and disadvantages of the most popular sample preparation techniques based on liquid-solid extraction, the newest trends in the application of MOFs as sorbents in those techniques, and, most importantly, presents the reader with a summary, which a specific technique and MOF for the desired application. This scoping review was conducted under the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) framework. It included primary studies published until 30 April 2023, obtained through a systematic search across PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and MEDLINE databases. The review focused on primary studies that used the Delphi technique in nursing competence research, especially those related to defining core competency frameworks and developing instruments to assess professional competence. The goal was to analyze the different methodological approaches used by authors, synthesize them, and propose recommendations to enhance methodological rigor, reliability, and validity in the application of the Delphi technique. For this purpose, the following review question was established: “What is the available evidence on the use of the Delphi technique in the study of professional competence in nursing?”. The extracted textual elements underwent a content analysis, resulting in dimensions established through an inductive approach. Twenty studies were included, yielding insights into diverse methodological options for conducting Delphi studies, organised around a set of dimensions: (1) preparatory procedures; (2) procedures for accessing and selecting experts; (3) acquisition of expert input; (4) data analysis and consensus; and (5) ethical and legal procedures and guarantees. The study’s limitations include the inability to include certain studies due to a lack of response to requests for clarification from corresponding authors. Additionally, the primary studies’ methodological quality was not assessed, which is another relevant aspect. The study’s results offer valuable insights for researchers intending to utilise the Delphi technique within the context of the research referenced in the included studies. This information encompasses important methodological choices, highlighting their potential benefits and associated risks. Integrated disaster risk reduction in schools represents a key component of safety strategies within the educational sector of every country. The aim of this study is to comprehensively explore the impact of various demographic and socio-economic factors on the perceptions of students and teachers regarding disaster risk reduction and safety in schools. This study is distinguished by its extensive empirical approach, employing a multistage random sampling method to conduct 850 face-to-face interviews (650 with students and 200 with teachers) throughout 2023 in 10 out of the total 18 municipalities in the Western Morava Basin of the Republic of Serbia. Two structured survey instruments were developed, incorporating a mix of qualitative (closed-ended) multiple-choice questions and five-point Likert scales. The research proposes two central hypotheses regarding school-based disaster risk reduction. Firstly, it suggests that gender, age, parent’s employment, academic achievement, living situation, parental education levels, and engagement with social media collectively influence students’ perspectives on this matter (H1–H8). Secondly, it posits that gender, age, marital status, parenthood, and educational background significantly impact teachers’ viewpoints on school-based disaster risk reduction (H1–H5). Multivariate linear regression was used to explore predictors of students’ and teachers’ insights on school-based disaster risk reduction. Various statistical tests, including Chi-square, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation, were employed to investigate the influence of demographic and socioeconomic factors on these insights. The results of multivariate regression analyses indicate that age, gender, and marital status emerge as the primary predictors across various facets of students’ and teachers’ insights on school-based disaster risk reduction, including awareness of disasters, disaster education activities, attitudes toward disaster risk reduction education, and enhancement of disaster information accessibility. The findings of this study provide comprehensive insights into the key factors influencing students’ and teachers’ perceptions of disaster risk reduction in schools. This research not only contributes to the academic discourse on disaster education but also serves as a foundational basis for improving educational programs, developing policies and strategies, refining normative educational frameworks, guiding teacher training, and informing further research in disaster education.
