In response to the demand for flexible regulation resources in distribution networks with high proportion of new energy integration, this study explores the regulation potential of feeder loads. It controls the power of feeder loads through various types of voltage regulation equipment, treating these loads as a key component of virtual power plants (VPPs) to participate in grid security and stability control, demand response, and other fields, thereby enhancing the operational flexibility of the system. This paper focuses on the research of dynamic adjustable capacity evaluation for feeder loads, aiming to provide capacity constraints for their participation in grid interaction. Firstly, a CVR coefficient model is established based on the voltage–power coupling characteristics of feeder loads to characterize their regulation properties. Secondly, an analytical expression for voltage sensitivity is derived using an improved Zbus linearized power flow model, and a system-wide node voltage prediction model is constructed by combining the source–load prediction results from the CNN-LSTM model. On this basis, the dynamic regulation boundaries of each node’s voltage are solved with the constraint of system-wide voltage security. The adjustable capacity for the next 3 h is calculated iteratively by integrating the CVR coefficients of each feeder load, realizing the dynamic evaluation of the regulation capability of feeder loads. The instability of bank slopes with uneven and soft geological layers under a heaped load will influence the safe and normal operation of ports. Therefore, this paper takes the bank slope in Xiaqinglong Port for slope stability evaluation and treatment measure effectiveness analysis. Firstly, the geological conditions, material composition and potential failure modes of the bank slope were determined through a field investigation and engineering geological analysis. Moreover, the slope stability was evaluated and calculated using the finite difference method (FDM) and the limit equilibrium method (LEM) with Bishop and Morgenstern–Price and a method considering pile resistance. Moreover, passing flow analysis (PFA) was applied to optimize the treatment measure design, and the treatment measures’ effectiveness was analyzed with simulation results. The results indicated that (1) the upper soft and lower hard strata are the main cause of the bank slope’s instability and deformation under heaped loads; (2) PFA can effectively calculate the maximum resistance of the pile and optimize the pile arrangement, with three rows with spacing of 2.3 m and a length of 22 m; (3) with piles, the stability of the bank slope improves from unstable to stable, along with an increase in the stability coefficient and a reduction in displacement, as well as a maximum shear strain increment and plastic zones. The study provides certain contributions to stability evaluation and treatment design optimization to prevent the potential instability and failure of similar bank slopes under the action of heaped loads. Francis turbines are widely used due to their large capacity and broad head adaptability, placing higher demands on the internal flow characteristics and runner performance of the units. In this paper, numerical simulations of a Francis turbine model were conducted using ANSYS CFX 2022 R1. The SST turbulence model, ZGB cavitation model, and VOF multiphase flow model were selected for the calculations. The internal flow characteristics and pressure pulsations in the runner and draft tube under different operating conditions were analyzed, and the variations in normal and tangential forces acting on the runner blades during operation were investigated. The results indicate significant differences in the internal flow within the runner and draft tube under various guide vane opening conditions. The pressure pulsation in the unit is influenced by both the internal flow in the draft tube and the rotation of the runner. The mechanical load on the runner blades is affected by multiple factors, including the wake from upstream fixed guide vanes, rotor–stator interaction, and downstream vortex ropes. Under low-flow conditions, the variation in forces acting on the runner blades is relatively small, whereas under high-flow conditions, the runner blades are prone to abrupt force fluctuations at 0.6–0.8 times the rotational frequency. This is manifested as periodic abrupt force changes in both the X and Y directions of the runner blades under high-flow conditions. The normal force in the Z-direction of the runner blades increases instantaneously and then decreases immediately, while the tangential force decreases instantaneously and then increases promptly. To address the limitations of conventional reliability assessment methods in handling mesh distribution networks with flexible operation characteristics and complex topologies, namely their poor adaptability and low computational efficiency, this paper proposes a matrix-based analytical approach for reliability assessment of mesh distribution networks. First, a network configuration centered on the soft open points (SOP) is established. Through multi-feeder interconnection and flexible power flow control, a topology capable of fast fault transfer and service restoration is formed. Second, based on the restoration modes of load nodes under fault scenarios, three types of fault incidence matrices (FIM) are proposed. By means of matrix algebra, explicit analytical expressions are derived for the relationships among equipment failure probability, duration, impact range, and reliability indices. This overcomes the drawbacks of iterative search in conventional reliability assessments, significantly improving efficiency while ensuring accuracy. Finally, a modified 44 bus Taiwan test system is used for reliability assessment to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the proposed matrix-based analytical reliability assessment method enables explicit analytical calculation of both system-level and load-level reliability indices in mesh distribution networks, providing effective support for planning and operational optimization to enhance reliability. This study investigates premature fatigue failure in rocker arm gears of large-mining-height shearers operating at alternating ±45° working angles, where insufficient lubrication generates non-uniform thermal -stress fields. In this study, an integrated multiphysics framework combining transient thermal–fluid–structure coupling simulations with fatigue life prediction is proposed. Transient thermo-mechanical coupling analysis simulated dry friction conditions, capturing temperature and stress fields under varying speeds. Fluid–thermal–solid coupling analysis modeled wet lubrication scenarios, incorporating multiphase flow to track oil distribution, and calculated convective heat transfer coefficients at different immersion depths (25%, 50%, 75%). These coupled simulations provided the critical time-varying temperature and thermal stress distributions acting on the gears (Z6 and Z7). Subsequently, these simulated thermo-mechanical loads were directly imported into ANSYS 2024R1 nCode DesignLife to perform fatigue life prediction. Simulations demonstrate that dry friction induces extreme operating conditions, with Z6 gear temperatures reaching over 800 °C and thermal stresses peaking at 803.86 MPa under 900 rpm, both escalating linearly with rotational speed. Lubrication depth critically regulates heat dissipation, where 50% oil immersion optimizes convective heat transfer at 8880 W/m2·K for Z6 and 11,300 W/m2·K for Z7, while 25% immersion exacerbates thermal gradients. Fatigue life exhibits an inverse relationship with speed but improves significantly with cooling. Z6 sustains a lower lifespan, exemplified by 25+ days at 900 rpm without cooling versus 50+ days for Z7, attributable to higher stress concentrations. Based on the multiphysics analysis results, two physics-informed engineering optimizations are proposed to reduce thermal stress and extend gear fatigue life: a staged cooling system using spiral copper tubes and an intelligent lubrication strategy with gear-pump-driven dynamic oil supply and thermal feedback control. These strategies collectively enhance gear longevity, validated via multiphysics-driven topology optimization. Full article

The sustainability of a port is directly related to the time spent by ships in terminals and depends on the terminal, the technologies used in it, and external conditions. Currently used sustainable port terminal technologies allow a significant increase in the intensity of ship loading operations and, at the same time, shorten the time spent by ships at the quays. Since port construction processes take a lot of time, many ports have many quays every day that are not moored by ships. Ports try to attract passenger and cargo flows, but they are also not infinite. In individual port terminals, for example, container and Ro–Ro terminals, most of the time is spent on cargo processing inside the terminal, and only part of the time is spent on ship loading operations. Probabilistic assessment of ship mooring at quays allows an understanding of not only the optimal need for quays and modernization of their equipment, but at the same time for a more purposeful assessment of the possibilities of using quays, accepting diversification options and, therefore, optimizing the ports themselves as a sustainable port entity. The article presents a methodology for assessing berth occupancy focused on the development of a sustainable port based on probabilistic methods that would allow calculating potential berth occupancy. The developed methodology, compared to existing methodologies and models, allows for a more realistic assessment of the expected berth occupancy, using actual port and ship data. The presented theoretical and experimental research results confirm the suitability of the developed methodology for the development of a sustainable port and the possibilities of applying the developed methodology in any port, adapting it to specific port conditions. Dynamic equivalence of active distribution networks (ADNs) is emerging as one of the most important issues for the backbone network security analysis due to high penetration of distributed generations (DGs) and electricity vehicles (EVs). The multiscale and multimodal fusion deep learning (MMFDL) method proposed in this paper contains two modalities, one of which is a CNN + attention module to simulate Newton Raphson power flow calculation (NRPFC) for the important feature extraction of a power system caused by disturbance, which is motivated by the similarities between NRPFC and convolution network computation. The other is a long short-term memory (LSTM) + fully connected (FC) module for load modeling based on the fact that LSTM + FC can represent a load′s differential algebraic equations (DAEs). Moreover, to better capture the relationship between voltage and power, the multiscale fusion method is used to aggregate load modeling models with different voltage input sizes and combined with CNN + attention, merging as MMFDL to represent the dynamic behaviors of ADNs. Then, the Kepler optimization algorithm (KOA) is applied to automatically tune the adjustable parameters of MMFLD (called KOA-MMFDL), especially the LSTM and FC hidden layer number, as they are important for load modeling and there is no human knowledge to set these parameters. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by employing different electric power systems and various disturbance scenarios. The error analysis shows that the proposed method can accurately represent the dynamic response of ADNs. In addition, comparative experiments verified that the proposed method is more robust and generalizable than other advanced non-mechanism methods. Full article

Background: This study investigated sex differences in foot arch structure and function, and their impact on postural control and energy flow during dynamic tasks. Findings aim to inform sex-specific training, movement assessment, and injury prevention strategies. Methods: A total of 108 participants (53 males and 55 females) underwent foot arch morphological assessments and performed a sit-to-stand (STS). Motion data were collected using an infrared motion capture system, three-dimensional force plates, and wireless surface electromyography. A rigid body model was constructed in Visual3D, and joint forces, segmental angular and linear velocities, center of pressure (COP), and center of mass (COM) were calculated using MATLAB. Segmental net energy was integrated to determine energy flow across different phases of the STS. Results: Arch stiffness was significantly higher in males. In terms of postural control, males exhibited significantly lower mediolateral COP frequency and anteroposterior COM peak velocity during the pre-seat-off phase, and lower COM displacement, peak velocity, and sample entropy during the post-seat-off phase compared to females. Conversely, males showed higher anteroposterior COM velocity before seat-off, and greater anteroposterior and vertical momentum after seat-off (p < 0.05). Regarding energy flow, males exhibited higher thigh muscle power, segmental net power during both phases, and greater shank joint power before seat-off. In contrast, females showed higher thigh joint power before seat-off and greater shank joint power after seat-off (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Significant sex differences in foot arch function influence postural control and energy transfer during STS. Compared to males, females rely on more frequent postural adjustments to compensate for lower arch stiffness, which may increase mechanical loading on the knee and ankle and elevate injury risk. Recent advances in cardiovascular imaging have revolutionized the assessment and management of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) through the integration of sophisticated haemodynamic biomarkers. This comprehensive review evaluates the clinical utility and mechanistic significance of multiple biomarkers in AAA pathogenesis, progression, and treatment outcomes. Advanced cardiac imaging modalities, including four-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (4D MRI), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and specialized echocardiography, enable precise quantification of critical haemodynamic parameters. Wall shear stress (WSS) emerges as a fundamental biomarker, with values below 0.4 Pa indicating pathological conditions and increased risk for aneurysm progression. Time-averaged wall shear stress (TAWSS), typically maintaining values above 1.5 Pa in healthy arterial segments, provides crucial information about sustained haemodynamic forces affecting the vessel wall. The oscillatory shear index (OSI), ranging from 0 (unidirectional flow) to 0.5 (purely oscillatory flow), quantifies directional changes in WSS during cardiac cycles. In AAA, elevated OSI values between 0.3 and 0.4 correlate with disturbed flow patterns and accelerated disease progression. The relative residence time (RRT), combining TAWSS and OSI, identifies regions prone to thrombosis, with values exceeding 2–3 Pa−1 indicating increased risk. The endothelial cell activation potential (ECAP), calculated as OSI/TAWSS, serves as an integrated metric for endothelial dysfunction risk, with values above 0.2–0.3 Pa−1 suggesting increased inflammatory activity. Additional biomarkers include the volumetric perivascular characterization index (VPCI), which assesses vessel wall inflammation through perivascular tissue analysis, and pulse wave velocity (PWV), measuring arterial stiffness. Central aortic systolic pressure and the aortic augmentation index provide essential information about cardiovascular load and arterial compliance. Novel parameters such as particle residence time, flow stagnation, and recirculation zones offer detailed insights into local haemodynamics and potential complications. Implementation challenges include the need for specialized equipment, standardized protocols, and expertise in data interpretation. However, the potential for improved patient outcomes through more precise risk stratification and personalized treatment planning justifies continued development and validation of these advanced assessment tools. With the rapid growth in the penetration of Electric Vehicles (EVs), their large-scale uncoordinated charging behavior presents significant challenges to the hosting capacity of traditional distribution networks (DNs). The novelty of this paper lies in its methodology, which integrates a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for realistic load profiling with a bi-level optimization framework for Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing, whose effectiveness is then rigorously evaluated through an Optimal Power Flow (OPF)-based assessment of the grid’s hosting capacity. First, to compensate for the limitations of historical data, the MCMC method is employed to simulate the uncoordinated charging process of a large-scale EV fleet. Second, the bi-level optimization model is constructed to formulate a globally optimal TOU tariff that maximizes charging cost savings for EV users. At the same time, its lower-level simulates the optimal economic response of the EV user population. Finally, the change in the minimum daily hosting capacity is calculated based on the OPF. Case study simulations for IEEE 33-bus and IEEE 69-bus systems demonstrate that the proposed model effectively shifts charging loads to off-peak hours, achieving stable user cost savings of 20.95%. More importantly, the findings reveal substantial security benefits from this economic strategy, validated across diverse network topologies. In the 33-bus system, the minimum daily capacity enhancement ranged from 174.63% for the most vulnerable node to 2.44% for the strongest node. In the 69-bus system, vulnerable nodes still achieved a significant 78.62% improvement. This finding highlights the limitations of purely economic assessments and underscores the necessity of the proposed integrated framework for achieving precise, location-dependent security planning. This paper presents the results of preliminary numerical and experimental studies concerning the sealing performance of static seals (gaskets) with geometrically designed sealing surface microstructures. The concept of the microstructure, inspired by the operating principle of Tesla’s one-way valve, relies on the generation of localized flow circulation within the microchannels formed between the contact surfaces, which increases flow resistance and reduces leakage. CFD simulations were performed to assess the influence of the geometric parameters of the microstructure on the leakage rate. The numerical calculations demonstrated that introducing microstructures into the gap formed between the contact interfaces can significantly reduce leakage, with the most critical geometric parameters being the gap width between the microprotrusions, their packing density, and their height. Experimental studies confirmed the higher sealing performance of structured gaskets compared to quasi-smooth gaskets, particularly at lower contact pressures. An analysis of the effective contact surface revealed that the improvement in tightness is a result of both the local intensification of the contact pressure and the flow effects induced by the microprotrusions. The results obtained confirm that an appropriately designed surface microstructure can substantially enhance the sealing performance of flange-bolted joints, even under relatively low clamping loads. To address the clutch drag issue over a wide speed range, this study first establishes a low-speed drag torque model that simultaneously considers the viscous friction effects in both the complete oil film region and the oil film rupture zone of the friction pair clearance. Subsequently, by solving the fluid-structure interaction dynamics model of the friction plates, the collision force between high-speed friction pairs and the resulting friction torque are determined, forming a method for calculating high-speed collision-induced drag torque. Building on this, a unified drag torque model for wet clutches across a wide speed range is developed, integrating both viscous and collision-induced drag torques. The validity of the wide-speed-range drag torque model is verified through experiments. The results indicate that as oil temperature and friction pair clearance increase, the drag torque decreases and the rotational speed corresponding to the peak drag torque is reduced, while the onset of collision phenomena occurs earlier. Conversely, with an increase in oil supply flow rate, the drag torque rises and the rotational speed corresponding to the peak drag torque increases, but the onset of collision phenomena is delayed. Finally, with the optimization objectives of minimizing the peak drag torque in the low-speed range and the total drag torque at the maximum speed in the high-speed range, an optimization design model for the surface grooves of the clutch friction plates is constructed. An optimized groove pattern is obtained, and its effectiveness in suppressing drag torque across a wide speed range is experimentally validated. Full article

Compared with a traditional distribution transformer with silicon steel sheet as the core material, the no-load loss of an amorphous alloy transformer is greatly reduced due to its core using iron-based amorphous metal material, which has been applied in many countries. However, due to the brittleness of its amorphous strip, an amorphous alloy transformer is prone to debris in the process of production, transportation and work. The charge and migration characteristics of these debris will reduce the insulation strength of the transformer oil and endanger the safe operation of the transformer. In this paper, a charge measurement platform of amorphous alloy debris is set up, and the charging characteristics of amorphous alloy core debris under different flow velocities, particle radius and plate electric field strength are obtained. The results show that with an increase in pipeline flow velocity, the charge-to-mass ratio of the debris increases first and then decreases. With an increase in electric field strength, the charge-to-mass ratio of the debris increases; with an increase in the number of debris, the charge-to-mass ratio of the debris decreases; with an increase in debris size, the charge-to-mass ratio of the debris increases. The debris with different charge-to-mass ratios and types obtained from the above experiments are added to the simulation model of an amorphous alloy transformer. The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) coupled with the discrete element method (DEM) is used to simulate the migration process of metal particles in an amorphous alloy transformer under the combined action of gravity, buoyancy, electric field force and oil flow resistance under electrothermal excitation boundary. The results show that the trajectory of the debris is related to the initial position, electric field strength and oil flow velocity. The LBM–DEM calculation model and charge measurement platform proposed in this paper can provide a reference for studying the charge mechanism and migration characteristics of amorphous alloy core debris in insulating oil. To accommodate the integration of emerging energy sources such as wind and solar power, hydroelectric units are increasingly required to operate across a broader range of conditions. This operational expansion often leads to elevated pressure pulsations within turbines under non-design conditions, resulting in intensified hydraulic vibrations and, in some cases, structural damage and overall stability concerns. In this study, the Shear Stress Transport (SST) k-ω turbulence model is employed to perform unsteady numerical simulation calculation of a Francis-99 mixed-flow model turbine operating at a head of 400 m. Simulations are conducted for three operating regimes: low-flow and low-load conditions, optimal conditions, and high-flow and high-load conditions. Internal flow in the full flow channel of the turbine and pressure pulsation in the full flow channel components is systematically analyzed. The findings indicate that under low-flow and low-load conditions, the ability of the runner blades to constrain the water flow is significantly decreased. Across all three operational scenarios, the dominant pressure pulsation frequencies observed in both the stationary and guide vane are 30fn, primarily influenced by dynamic and static disturbance caused by the rotation of the runner’s long and short blades. In low-flow and low-load conditions, a low-frequency component at 0.2fn, due to the existence of vortices in the draft tube, exhibits the highest amplitude—up to 0.6%—in the straight cone section. Within the runner, pressure pulsation frequencies are predominantly associated with the rotation of the guide vane. Conversely, the draft tube region is characterized by frequency components related to both the runner’s dynamic-static interaction at 30fn and vortex-induced pulsations at 0.2fn. Full article

Control valves are widely applied in nuclear power, offshore oil/gas extraction, and chemical engineering, but suffer from issues like pressure oscillation, flow control accuracy degradation, and motor overload due to unstable fluid loads (e.g., nuclear reactions in power plants and complex marine climates). This paper proposes a dual-motor redundant compensation method to address these challenges. The core lies in a control strategy where a single main motor drives the valve under normal conditions, while a redundant motor intervenes when load torque exceeds a preset threshold—calculated via the valve core’s fluid load model. By introducing excess load torque as positive feedback to the current loop, the method coordinates torque output between the two motors. AMESim and Matlab/Simulink joint simulations compare single-motor non-compensation, single-motor compensation, and dual-motor schemes. Results show that under inlet pressure step changes, the dual-motor compensation scheme shortens the stabilization time of the valve’s controlled variable by 40%, reduces overshoot by 65%, and decreases motor torque fluctuation by 50%. This redundant design enhances fault tolerance, providing a novel approach for reliability enhancement of deep-sea oil/gas control valves. Full article
