The integration of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) into digital learning environments is a profound socio-technical transformation. While GAI promises enhanced accessibility and efficiency, it simultaneously obscures the human creativity and intellectual labour that underpins digital knowledge production. This opacity limits creators’ visibility into how their work is used, evaluated, and monetised. This review application work investigates how several leading large language models, including ChatGPT (GPT-4o), Gemini (1.5 Flash), and DeepSeek (V3), interact with a creative platform hosting over 300 original essays, poems, and artworks from various human creatives. Our review reveals that despite clear evidence of models engaging with original materials, standard platform analytics of the average creative record no attribution, referrals, or traceable interaction from their end, rendering creators’ labour invisible. This compels critical examination of knowledge provenance and power within AI-mediated education. To address this, we propose a socio-technical framework, Chujoyi-TraceNet, not as a technical fix, but a mechanism to re-centre ethics, justice, and recognition in digital governance. By integrating real-time tracking, blockchain-enabled licensing, and metadata watermarking, Chujoyi-TraceNet operationalises the principles of equitable attribution. This study argues for a re-imagining of digital ecosystems in education, one that links the technical act of attribution to broader debates on digital labour, platform ethics, and the pursuit of social justice, thereby contributing to more democratic and accountable learning media in the era of Industry 4.0 and 5.0. The study reconsiders the architectural production associated with Russian Suprematism (which was speaking of “the supremacy of pure artistic sensation” rather than the veritable figurative depiction of real-life subjects) in the early Soviet period as a coherent and conceptually rigorous mode of speculative world-making rather than as a marginal or unrealized appendix to avant-garde art history and theory. By examining the architectural propositions articulated by Kazimir Malevich and then elaborated by his younger colleagues Lazar Khidekel, Ilya Chashnik, and Nikolai Suetin, the study advances the claim that Russian Suprematist architecture constituted an epistemic experiment aimed at redefining the very ontological premises of architecture. Far from functioning as a mere transposition of abstract pictorial language into three-dimensional form, Suprematist planits, architectons, and aerocentric projects operated as instruments for thinking spatiality beyond terrestrial gravity, anthropocentric utility, and historical typology. Situating these projects within the intellectual horizon of Russian cosmism and early aerospace thought, the article demonstrates how Suprematist architecture intersected with contemporary philosophical, scientific, and technological discourses that envisioned humanity’s active participation in the reorganization of cosmic space. The architectural imagination of Suprematism emerges here as inseparable from broader debates on excitation, non-objectivity, transformation of matter, and the reconfiguration of human corporeality. Through close analysis of formal strategies, pedagogical frameworks, and theoretical writings, the paper reveals the internal plurality of avant-garde Suprematist architectural inquiry, ranging from ecological proto-urbanism and hovering settlements to magnetic and cruciform spatial systems. Ultimately, the paper argues that the historical non-realization of these projects should not be interpreted as a failure but as an intrinsic feature of their speculative methodology. Suprematist architecture is thus redefined as an anticipatory practice whose unresolved propositions continue to resonate with contemporary discussions on space habitation, planetary design, ecological responsibility, and post-human architectural thought, challenging inherited assumptions about the scope and function of architecture as such. Unlike conventional virtual idols like Hatsune Miku, which rely on pre-set voice libraries and stage scripts, AI-customized virtual idols achieve real-time interaction through generative artificial intelligence, continuously iterating their personality traits, language style, and even value expression along with fan and user interactions. AI-customized virtual idols, as pre-defined cultural commodities in the digital age, tend to focus on static, functional interpretations and have not yet fully entered the dynamic construction process as “subjects in the process of generation.” This study, based on a deep mediation perspective, employs a research method combining app roaming and semi-structured interviews to focus on the sociological examination of young fan groups’ use of AI tools to customize virtual idol companionship. It explores the reciprocal relationship between fan groups and customized virtual idols. The study finds that the AI-customized idols fan group constitutes a typical “actor group,” and its interaction practices are essentially a “fluid interaction” of human–machine intimacy. Young fan groups mainly interact with AI-customized virtual idols based on materiality, cognition, visibility, and emotional frames, thereby generating rich meaning production and symbolic imagination during the usage process. Fan groups and AI-customized virtual idols have developed different relationship paths, including mutual attachment, returning to normalcy, seeking substitutes, or direct withdrawal, revealing the inherent contradictions and tensions in digital intimacy, as well as the self-adjustment strategies of individuals under the mediation of technology. This process presents a “human-machine-idol” triadic relationship framework, becoming a new paradigm for intimacy in the digital age. Full article

Transnational youth frequently navigate multiple languages and continually negotiate not only affiliation, but also the legitimacy of the languages they use within changing linguistic hierarchies. However, their educational experiences are often framed through fragmented classroom practices, deficit-based assessments, and nationally bounded curricular frameworks. In this paper, I respond by theorizing Fictional Linguistic Landscapes (FLL) as a transdisciplinary pedagogical approach that utilizes fiction and participatory cultural practices to position language learning as a form of semiotic design, critical inquiry, and identity (re)work. Grounded in linguistic landscape studies, multiliteracies pedagogy, and fan-based meaning-making, FLL positions learners as world-builders and allows them to experiment with visibility, hierarchy, and language(s) in safe fictional environments. This study outlines the four-phase FLL in Second Language Teaching and Learning (L2TL) cycle and provides five pedagogical design spaces to address issues of raciolinguistic valuation, deficit institutional representations, affective harm, peer-level marginalization, and translocal or return migrant identity negotiation. Rather than viewing imagination as an outcome of teaching, FLLinL2TL structures it as a necessary process for learning, linking creative production to explicit linguistic objectives and reflective justification. I conclude by discussing implications for classroom practice, teacher education, and future research on the potential of the FLLinL2TL approach in transnational education research. Full article

In white-collar workplaces, individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) traits may experience psychological strain and reduced productivity. This study examined structural relationships among ASD traits, social camouflaging, psychological distress, and work functioning impairment, with a focus on gender differences using a secondary analysis of data from an online survey of 543 Japanese white-collar workers (284 men, 259 women). Validated instruments were used to assess ASD traits, camouflaging, psychological distress, and work functioning impairment. Multi-group structural equation modeling by gender was applied using a NIOSH-inspired model. Men scored higher on the Imagination subscale of ASD traits, whereas women scored higher on Attention Switching and Assimilation. ASD traits were indirectly associated with work impairment through psychological distress, while the direct path between ASD traits and work impairment became negative when distress was controlled, indicating a statistical suppression pattern that was more pronounced among women. Assimilation was significantly associated with psychological distress in women but not in men, although the gender difference was at the trend level. The findings indicate a cross-sectional, context-dependent association between ASD traits and work functioning and highlight the importance of considering both gender and workplace context in non-clinical working populations. We can trace the convergence of electronic literature and narrative games through a focus on critical methods and experiential frameworks rather than relying on typologies or ontologies. This article offers examples of digital literary works that we experience across a literary–ludic continuum. The first section traces some historical markers of convergence between electronic literature and narrative games with reference to conference keynotes from the institutional history of the Electronic Literature Organization (ELO). The next sections will present two case studies. The first, Kentucky Route Zero by Cardboard Computer is a narrative game that benefits from a literary-critical method and rewards interpretative insights. The second, This is a COVID-19 Announcement by Peter Wills, is an analysis of a playable simulation that indulges the pleasures of iterative ludic engagement against a backdrop of narrative (yet not plot-centric) comforts. Just as literature enriches games and games enrich literature, the critical methodologies and imaginative experiences they engender can be mutually productive when understood across a continuum of literary and ludic practice. This article argues that animism in the Japanese context is more fruitfully understood as animation, a technique that imbues man-made things with life. Two forms of animation are at work in so-called animist beliefs: one is the docile animation of instruments when skillfully used by humans, in which case the instrument becomes part of the human body; the other is the sense of aliveness that one experiences when an object resists human use and intention. This latter sense is crucial for the narrative of the 14th century illustrated scroll “The Record of Tool Specters” and the painted genre of “Night Parade of Hundred Demons”, in which everyday objects, vessels and instruments appear as demons and threaten human life. These images show how the instruments come alive through animation strategies intrinsic to the illustrated scroll as a medium, activated by the performances of professional storytellers and shaped by the artists’ anthropomorphizing imagination. The tool specters, on the cusp of breaking free from human bondage, are recaptured in a different network of meaning, allusion and fecund cultural production. What animates the inanimate objects is a media infrastructure, a network of media platforms that stretches back in time and that allows these apparitions to be conjured in different forms and contexts. Evangelical churches increasingly engage in transnational partnerships that shape spiritual identity and moral belonging across borders. This study investigates how such partnerships function not simply as organizational strategies but as lived spatial practices grounded in faith. Drawing on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) of interviews with Canadian and Mexican participants in a long-term church-planting relationship, the article explores how theological commitments, emotional ties, and embodied rituals generate spatial meaning. Participants framed their engagement not through institutional goals, but through metaphors of family, covenant, and companionship, suggesting a grassroots geopolitics rooted in care, hospitality, and spiritual presence. The findings reveal that space is produced not only through ideology or policy, but through practices like shared meals, cross-cultural mentorship, and prayerful presence—acts that reconfigure belonging along theological and affective lines. The article introduces the concept of religeopolitics to describe this phenomenon, arguing that evangelical actors are not merely influenced by global geopolitics but actively create alternative spatial imaginaries through faith. Foregrounding religious subjectivity in spatial production, this article advances scholarship on lived religion and critical geopolitics, highlighting how spiritual communities shape geopolitical belonging through theological imagination, relational duration, and embodied moral practice. This article proposes a reading of A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) as the spiritual swan song of Stanley Kubrick, even though it was completed posthumously by Steven Spielberg. Conceived and developed by Kubrick from the 1970s until the late 1990s, the film emerges as a profound meditation on life, death, and the persistence of memory—one that continues to resonate through another author’s hand. It stands as a singular case of authorial transmission, where Spielberg’s intervention operates less as completion than as curatorship: the act of listening to, translating, and preserving a vision projected beyond its creator’s lifetime. Beyond its production history, which includes Kubrick’s long collaboration with writer Ian Watson, the early story treatments, and Spielberg’s eventual reinterpretation of Kubrick’s design materials and narrative architecture, this essay advances a philosophical reflection on A.I. as a mediated testamentary work. Drawing on the thoughts of Paul Ricoeur, Jacques Derrida, and Maurice Blanchot, it examines how questions of authorship, memory, and narrative closure intersect with the film’s ontological and affective dimensions. Through these lenses, A.I. reveals itself as both an allegory of survival and a reflection on artistic legacy—suggesting that a swan song may endure beyond its maker, preserved through the curatorship and imagination of another. The predatory mite Amblyseius swirskii is widely used as a biological control agent against phloem-feeding pests in vegetable production. However, its mass rearing is constrained by the lack of standardized and cost-effective artificial diets (ADs). In this study, the effects of various AD compositions on the development and viability of A. swirskii were assessed at lab-scale. A basal diet was supplemented with eggs of Sitotroga cerealella, Galleria mellonella, Tetranychus turkestani, and decapsulated Artemia salina cysts. The feeder mite Carpoglyphus lactis served as a control. Developmental duration, survival, adult longevity, feeding intensity, and fertility were evaluated. The shortest pre-imaginal development (2.9 ± 0.1 days) and highest survival (78%) were observed on S. cerealella eggs, while the longest adult lifespan (10.5 ± 0.3 days) and weakest survival (38%) occurred with A. salina. In contrast, G. mellonella eggs proved to be the least suitable, resulting in minimal survival and reproduction. Study findings support S. cerealella and A. salina as promising AD components, with further optimization needed for improving reproductive output. Full article

This paper investigates the design potential of post-consumer plastic waste through the Waste Driven Design (WDD) method, developed at IUAV University of Venice and implemented in both experimental and semi-industrial contexts. WDD proposes a situated and transdisciplinary approach, where waste is no longer regarded as a material to be discarded, but as a resource to be explored, transformed, and valorised. Using the Marble CAP case study—a new material derived from non-recyclable food packaging—the paper presents an iterative and scalable design process that combines technical experimentation, material storytelling, and application potential. The stages of the process are examined, from waste collection and cataloguing to the production of pressed sheets, which are tested under various conditions and finishes. The results demonstrate how, in design, material can become a catalyst for new aesthetics, languages, and production chains. Rather than concluding with the formal outcome, the project opens up spaces for critical and operational interventions along the supply chain, highlighting how design can contribute to imagining and activating alternative trajectories for waste transformation. Climate change is the biggest global health threat of the 21st century. However, this challenge presents an opportunity to do things differently. This paper sets out how, using a design-led and collaborative approach, one can re-imagine the delivery of healthcare itself in a way that will deliver environmental sustainability. The paper presents a series of eight projects at the intersections of design, health and wellbeing, and complex net zero challenges, with an emphasis on inclusive, equitable, and sustainable design-led interventions. This encompasses diverse interventions across and beyond conventional design boundaries such as architecture, product design, and textile design providing insights that demonstrate the impact of design thinking, making, and acting on real-world net zero issues. Addressing such a broad and complex topic requires engagement across a wide range of stakeholders. The work undertaken has been conducted as part of a UK Government-funded Green Transition Ecosystem (GTE) Hub that has allowed multiple academic disciplines, research organisations, regional and local industry, and other public sector stakeholders, to connect with policy makers. Across seven themes, the paper describes how Design HOPES (Healthy Organisations in a Place-based Ecosystem, Scotland), as a design-led GTE Hub, brings in multiple and marginalised perspectives and how its design-led projects as one part of a wider movement for transformational change can re-use, nurture and develop these interventions sustainably. The overarching ambition being, through our collaborative design-led thinking, making, and acting, to build a more equitable and sustainable health and social care system across Scotland. This article examines how gender shapes Holocaust memory through close analyses of two canonical women’s memoirs: Charlotte Delbo’s Auschwitz and After and Ruth Klüger’s Still Alive (2001), a considerably rewritten and culturally reinterpreted version of her earlier German book Weiter leben (1992). Delbo, a French political deportee, and Klüger, an Austrian Jewish survivor, provide testimonies that challenge the male-centered paradigms that have long dominated the Holocaust literature. Although pioneering feminist scholars have shown that women experienced and remembered the Holocaust differently, gender-based analysis remains underused—not only in Holocaust studies but also in broader memory studies, where it is often assumed to be already complete or exhausted. This view of theoretical saturation reflects a Eurocentric bias that equates critical maturity with Western academic prominence, thereby masking the ongoing influence of gender on the production, circulation, and reception of testimony worldwide. Drawing on trauma theory, concepts of multidirectional memory and postmemory, systems theory of media, and ethical approaches to testimony, this article argues that gender is not merely descriptive of Holocaust experience but also constitutive of how trauma is narrated, circulated, and archived. Testimony, as a cultural form, is inherently mediated, and that mediation is fundamentally gendered. This analysis illustrates how Delbo and Klüger create gendered testimonial forms through unique aesthetic strategies. Delbo’s writing focuses on seeing by invoking a feminist aesthetics of voir as imagined and ethical visualization, while Klüger’s narrative emphasizes voice, utilizing rhetorical sharpness and ambivalent narration to challenge postwar silencing. Instead of equating gender with femininity, the article understands gender as a relational and intersectional system—one that includes masculinity, non-binary identities, and structural power differences. It also questions Eurocentric assumptions that feminist critique has been fully explored within memory studies, urging renewed engagement with gender in transnational contexts, such as the often-overlooked testimonies from wartime Shanghai. Ultimately, this article argues that feminist approaches to Holocaust testimony expose the gendered structures of grievability that determine which kinds of suffering are preserved—and which remain unspoken. Higher education has long been subject to feminist critique, contesting traditional practices, with calls for transformative pedagogies that empower marginalised students, address social injustices and promote gender equality. Despite this, most classrooms in Western European universities remain largely unchanged, with educators facing the difficulty of imagining and/or enacting decolonial futures within their curricula. However, some progress has been made, particularly the inclusion of transnational scholarship in syllabi and a turn to transformative pedagogies, which allow for alternative ways of interdisciplinary knowing to enter academia. In this paper, we examine this coming together of approaches which promote dialogue and personal reflection to restructure discussions on equality, gender and knowledge production in the ‘classroom’. Using a creative critical account of feminist ethnography conducted at a Western European university, we present and discuss two illustrative vignettes about cultural mapping and critical fabulation, considering how dissonant voices have challenged Western concepts, exemplifying transformative pedagogy working in tandem with transnational thought. Key insights from the study identify approaches for facilitation of more open and richer discussions to reshape staff and student perspectives of gender, equality and knowledge production. Proclaiming Our Roots (POR) began as an academic community-based research initiative documenting Afro-Indigenous identities and lived experiences through digital oral storytelling. Since its inception, Proclaiming Our Roots has grown into a grassroots social movement focused on self-determination, cultural reclamation, and resistance to colonial erasure. This paper explores Proclaiming Our Root’s evolution, from a research project to a grassroots social movement, analyzing how storytelling, relational accountability, and Indigenous, Black, and Afro-Indigenous governance have shaped its development. Drawing on Indigenous methodologies and grounded in Afro-Indigenous worldviews, we examine how POR mobilizes digital storytelling, community gatherings, and intergenerational dialog to give voice to Afro-Indigenous identity, build collective consciousness, and challenge dominant narratives that erase or marginalize Black, Indigenous, and Afro-Indigenous presence. Through a sharing circle involving Proclaiming Our Roots community members, advisory council members, and the research team, in this paper we identify key themes that reflect the movement’s transformative impact: Identity and Belonging, Storytelling as Decolonial Praxis, Healing, Spirituality and Collective Consciousness, and Resistance and Social Movement Building. We discuss how these themes illustrate Proclaiming Our Roots’ dual role as a site of knowledge production and political action, navigating tensions between institutional affiliation and community autonomy. By prioritizing Afro-Indigenous epistemologies and centering lived experience, POR demonstrates how academic research can be a foundation for long-term, relational, and community-led movement-building. In this paper, we want to contribute to broader discussions around the sustainability of grassroots movements, the role of storytelling in social change for Indigenous and Black Peoples, and the possibilities of decolonial knowledge production as epistemic justice. We offer a model for how academic research-initiated projects can remain accountable to the communities with whom we work, while actively participating in liberatory re-imaginings. Full article
