The reliability of the EDS (Electric Drive System) in electric vehicles is crucial to overall vehicle performance. This study addresses the challenge of acquiring high-fidelity internal load data in the early development phase due to the absence of prototypes, overcoming the limitations of traditional road tests, which are costly, time-consuming, and unable to measure gear meshing forces. A method based on a VPG (Virtual Proving Ground) is proposed to acquire internal loads of a dual-motor EDS, analyze the impact of typical virtual fatigue durability road conditions on critical components, and generate load spectra for test bench experiments. Through point cloud data-based road modeling and rigid-flexible coupled simulation, dynamic loads are accurately extracted, with pseudo-damage contributions from eight intensified road conditions quantified using pseudo-damage calculations, and equivalent sinusoidal load spectra generated using the rainflow counting method and linear cumulative damage theory. Compared to the limitations of existing VPG methods that rely on simplified models, this study enhances the accuracy of internal load extraction, providing technical support for EDS durability testing. Building on existing research, it focuses on high-fidelity acquisition of EDS loads and load spectrum generation, improving applicability and addressing deficiencies in simulation accuracy. This study represents a novel application of VPG technology in electric drive system development, resolving the issue of insufficient early-stage load spectra. It provides data support for durability optimization and bench testing, with future validation planned using real vehicle data. Full article

Banana fiber, as a naturally biodegradable material, exhibits excellent mechanical properties and considerable application potential. However, conventional rotary blade scraping extractors often cause significant fiber damage during extraction, thereby reducing fiber quality. To enhance fiber integrity and extraction efficiency, this study developed a pulsating rubbing-based banana fiber extractor. The device comprises a rubbing device with two grass-textured belts and a pulsating pressing device driven by a cam mechanism. Through the synergistic action of periodic pressing and rubbing, flexible fracture of banana stems and efficient fiber separation are achieved. The fiber extraction process was simulated using the RecurDyn rigid–flexible coupling analysis method to verify the dynamic behavior of stem slices during rubbing. Structural parameters were optimized based on the Box–Behnken experimental design, with 17 groups of tests conducted, each repeated three times and averaged. The results indicated that, when the spring outer diameter was 30 mm, the feeding interval of stem slices was 4 s, and the clamping angle between the stem slices and the rubbing belts was 90°, the fiber extraction rate reached 61.35%, the impurity rate was 9.01%, and the integrity rate was 96.22%. These findings verify the feasibility of the equipment structure and process parameters, achieve a favorable balance between extraction efficiency and fiber quality, and provide a novel technical pathway and equipment support for the high-value utilization of banana stem resources. Periphytic algae, as representative aquatic epiphytic communities, play a vital role in the material cycling and energy flow in rivers. Through physiological processes such as photosynthetic carbon fixation and nutrient absorption, they perform essential ecological functions in water self-purification, maintenance of primary productivity, and microhabitat formation. This study investigates the interaction mechanisms between these highly flexible organisms and the hydrodynamic environment, thereby addressing the limitations of traditional hydraulic theories developed for rigid vegetation. By incorporating the coupled effects of biological flexibility and water flow, an innovative nonlinear resistance model with velocity-dependent response is developed. Building upon this model, a coupled governing equation that integrates water flow dynamics, periphytic algae morphology, and layered Reynolds stress is formulated. An analytical solution for the vertical velocity distribution is subsequently derived using analytical methods. Through Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements conducted under varying flow velocity conditions in an experimental tank, followed by comprehensive error analysis, the accuracy and applicability of the model were verified. The results demonstrate strong agreement between predicted and measured values, with the coefficient of determination R2 greater than 0.94, thereby highlighting the model’s predictive capacity in capturing flow velocity distributions influenced by periphytic algae. The findings provide theoretical support for advancing the understanding of ecological hydrodynamics and establish mechanical and theoretical foundations for river water environment management and vegetation restoration. Future research will build upon the established nonlinear resistance model to investigate the dynamic coupling mechanisms between multi-species periphytic algae communities and turbulence-induced pulsations, aiming to enhance the predictive modelling of biotic–hydrodynamic feedback processes in aquatic ecosystems. This study introduces a rigid–flexible coupled constant force actuator integrated with Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) to tackle the rigidity–compliance trade-off in precision force-sensitive applications. The actuator utilizes compliant hinges to decrease contact stiffness by three orders of magnitude (106103 N/m), facilitating effective force management through millimeter-scale placement (0.1∼1 mm) and inherently mitigating high-frequency disturbances. The ADRC framework, augmented by an Extended State Observer (ESO), dynamically assesses and compensates for internal nonlinearities (such as friction hysteresis) and external disturbances without necessitating accurate system models. Experimental results indicate enhanced performance compared to PID control: under dynamic disturbances, force deviations are limited to ±0.2 N with a 98.5% reduction in mean absolute error, a 96.3% increase in settling speed, and 99% suppression of oscillations. The co-design of mechanical compliance with model-free control addresses the constraints of traditional high-stiffness systems, providing a scalable solution for industrial robots, compliant material processing, and medical device operations. Validation of the prototype under sinusoidal perturbations demonstrates reliable force regulation (settling time <0.56 s, errors <0.5 N), underscoring its relevance in dynamic situations. This study integrates theoretical innovation with experimental precision, enhancing intelligent manufacturing systems via adaptive control and structural synergy. Full article

Adopting mobile robots for high voltage (HV) live-line operations can mitigate personnel casualties and enhance operational efficiency. However, conventional mechanical arms cannot inspect concealed spaces in the power cable tunnel because their joint integrates metallic motors or hydraulic serial-drive mechanisms, which limit the arm’s length and insulation performance. Therefore, this study proposes a 7-degree-of-freedom (7-DOF) bionic mechanical arm with rigid-flexible coupling, mimicking human arm joints (shoulder, elbow, and wrist) designed for HV live-line operations in concealed cable tunnels. The arm employs a tendon-driven mechanism to remotely actuate joints, analogous to human musculoskeletal dynamics, thereby physically isolating conductive components (e.g., motors) from the mechanical arm. The arm’s structure utilizes dielectric materials and insulation-optimized geometries to reduce peak electric field intensity and increase creepage distance, achieving intrinsic self-insulation. Furthermore, the mechanical design addresses challenges posed by concealed spaces (e.g., shield tunnels and multi-circuit cable layouts) through the analysis of joint kinematics, drive mechanisms, and dielectric performance. The workspace of the proposed arm is an oblate ellipsoid with minor and major axes measuring 1.25 m and 1.65 m, respectively, covering the concealed space in the cable tunnel, while the arm’s quality is 4.7 kg. The maximum electric field intensity is 74.3 kV/m under 220 kV operating voltage. The field value is less than the air breakdown threshold. The proposed mechanical arm design significantly improves spatial adaptability, operational efficiency, and reliability in HV live-line inspection, offering theoretical and practical advancements for intelligent maintenance in cable tunnel environments. In this work, we aimed to determine the nonlinear disturbance caused by cascaded coupling rigid–flexible deformation and friction in a direct-driven servo electric cylinder terminal positioning system (DDSEC-TPS) during feed motion of an intermittent, reciprocating, and time-varying load. For this purpose, a cascaded coupling dynamic error model of DDSEC-TPS was established based on the position–pose error model of the parallel motion platform and the rotor field-oriented vector transform. Then, a model to observe the dynamic error of the DDSEC-TPS was established using the improved beetle antennae search algorithm backpropagation neural network (IBAS-BPNN) prediction model according to the rigid–flexible deformation error theory of feed motion, and the observed dynamic error was compensated for in the vector control strategy of the DDSEC-TPS. The length and error prediction models were trained and validated using opposite and mixed datasets tested on the experimental platform, to observe dynamic errors and evaluate and optimize the prediction models. The experimental results show that dynamic error compensation can improve the position tracking accuracy of the DDSEC-TPS and the position–pose performance of the parallel motion platform. This study is of great significance for improving the consistency of following multiple DDSEC-TPSs and the position–pose accuracy of parallel motion platforms. Full article

This study aims to mitigate slope-collapse hazards that threaten life and property at the Lujiawan resettlement site in Wanbi Town, Dayao County, Yunnan Province, within the Guanyinyan hydropower reservoir. It integrates centimeter-level point-cloud data collected by a DJI Matrice 350 RTK equipped with a Zenmuse L2 airborne LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) sensor with detailed structural-joint survey data. First, qualitative structural interpretation is conducted with stereographic projection. Next, safety factors are quantified using the limit-equilibrium method, establishing a dual qualitative–quantitative diagnostic framework. This framework delineates six hazardous rock zones (WY1–WY6), dominated by toppling and free-fall failure modes, and evaluates their stability under combined rainfall infiltration, seismic loading, and ambient conditions. Subsequently, six-degree-of-freedom Monte Carlo simulations incorporating realistic three-dimensional terrain and block geometry are performed in RAMMS::ROCKFALL (Rapid Mass Movements Simulation—Rockfall). The resulting spatial patterns of rockfall velocity, kinetic energy, and rebound height elucidate their evolution coupled with slope height, surface morphology, and block shape. Results show peak velocities ranging from 20 to 42 m s−1 and maximum kinetic energies between 0.16 and 1.4 MJ. Most rockfall trajectories terminate within 0–80 m of the cliff base. All six identified hazardous rock masses pose varying levels of threat to residential structures at the slope foot, highlighting substantial spatial variability in hazard distribution. Drawing on the preceding diagnostic results and dynamic simulations, we recommend a three-tier “zonal defense with in situ energy dissipation” scheme: (i) install 500–2000 kJ flexible barriers along the crest and upper slope to rapidly attenuate rockfall energy; (ii) place guiding or deflection structures at mid-slope to steer blocks and dissipate momentum; and (iii) deploy high-capacity flexible nets combined with a catchment basin at the slope foot to intercept residual blocks. This staged arrangement maximizes energy attenuation and overall risk reduction. This study shows that integrating high-resolution 3D point clouds with rigid-body contact dynamics overcomes the spatial discontinuities of conventional surveys. The approach substantially improves the accuracy and efficiency of hazardous rock stability assessments and rockfall trajectory predictions, offering a quantifiable, reproducible mitigation framework for long slopes, large rock volumes, and densely fractured cliff faces. Helical idler gear transmission systems can adapt to high-speed, heavy-load working environments and are thus widely used in aerospace, shipbuilding, and other heavy industry sectors. Root crack is one of the common fault types. Prior studies generally only considered cracks at a single working flank, lacking comparative analysis between the crack at the working flank and the non-working flank. This paper examines the dynamic response of helical idler gears with root cracks at different working flanks, comparing dynamic response differences between working and non-working flank cracks. First, a comprehensive dynamics model of the helical idler gear system is established. Second, the influence of root crack location (the working flank or the non-working flank) on time-varying meshing stiffness is considered based on potential energy method, and a flexible model is established by finite element method for the faulty gear. Finally, solution results of the rigid-flexible coupling dynamics model are analyzed. The dynamic response signal characteristics of root cracks at the working flank and the non-working flank are analyzed in time domain, frequency domain and time frequency domain, respectively. Corresponding experiments are designed based on the FZG experimental platform, and the experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation results, which verified the accuracy of the model. A planetary gear fault generates periodic speed fluctuations, which significantly influence its vibration signal. It is a necessity to explore the vibration modulation features of gear faults to provide an effective indicator for fault detection. Therefore, a superior rigid-flexible coupling dynamics model of a planetary gearbox involving the fault-caused speed fluctuation is developed, where the meshing stiffness under the impact of fault-caused speed fluctuation is innovatively deduced utilizing the potential energy method; then, the meshing stiffness is substituted into the rigid dynamics model to calculate the excitation forces. Transfer path functions from excitation locations to the sensor installed on the housing are obtained by considering the modal parameters of the flexible housing. Finally, the excitation forces are combined with their transfer path functions to calculate the vibration signal. The fault modulation features of the cracked sun gear deduced by the superior dynamics model emerge surrounding the meshing frequency and its harmonics, as well as the resonance ranges, which can be a reliable sign for identifying faults. The experiment conducted on a single-stage planetary gearbox confirms the validity and superiority of the proposed model, which holds significant value for guiding fault detection and prognosis in planetary gearboxes. Hydraulically driven flexible robotic arms (HDFRAs) play an indispensable role in industrial precision operations such as aerospace assembly and nuclear waste handling, owing to their high power density and adaptability to complex environments. However, inherent mechanical flexibility-induced vibrations, hydraulic nonlinear dynamics, and electromechanical coupling effects lead to multi-timescale control challenges, severely limiting high-precision trajectory tracking performance. The present study introduces a novel hierarchical control framework employing dual-timescale perturbation analysis, which effectively addresses the constraints inherent in conventional single-timescale control approaches. First, the system is decoupled into three subsystems via dual perturbation parameters: a second-order rigid-body motion subsystem (SRS), a second-order flexible vibration subsystem (SFS), and a first-order hydraulic dynamic subsystem (FHS). For SRS/SFS, an adaptive fast terminal sliding mode active disturbance rejection controller (AFTSM-ADRC) is designed, featuring a dual-bandwidth extended state observer (BESO) to estimate parameter perturbations and unmodeled dynamics in real time. A novel reaching law with power-rate hybrid characteristics is developed to suppress sliding mode chattering while ensuring rapid convergence. For FHS, a sliding mode observer-integrated sliding mode coordinated controller (SMO-ISMCC) is proposed, achieving high-precision suppression of hydraulic pressure fluctuations through feedforward compensation of disturbance estimation and feedback integration of tracking errors. The globally asymptotically stable property of the composite system has been formally verified through systematic Lyapunov-based analysis. Through comprehensive simulations, the developed methodology demonstrates significant improvements over conventional ADRC and PID controllers, including (1) joint tracking precision reaching 104 rad level under nominal conditions and (2) over 40% attenuation of current oscillations when subjected to stochastic disturbances. These results validate its superiority in dynamic decoupling and strong disturbance rejection. Full article

To address distributed mass payload (DMP) anti-swing control problems typified by offshore wind turbine blades, this paper adopts multi-body dynamics and rigid-flexible coupling modelling approaches. It derives the geometric constraints and static equilibrium equations for marine crane multipoint lifting of DMP, and establishes a dynamic coupling model considering ship roll and pitch environmental excitations. Then, under the maximum environmental excitation set in the experiment, the flexible cable parallel anti-swing system achieves swing suppression rates of 41.0% and 58.0% for the in-plane and out-of-plane angles of the DMP with regular geometric shape and mass distribution, respectively. For the DMP with irregular geometry and mass distribution, the suppression rates are 48.4% and 39.3% for the in-plane and out-of-plane angles, respectively. It is found that, after adjusting the lifting method and increasing the distance between the lifting points, the maximum in-plane angle of the payload decreases by 2.3%, while the out-of-plane angle maximum decreases by 52.0%. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of adjusting lifting methods in suppressing swing for irregular DMPs, thereby verifying the reliability and applicability of the flexible cable parallel anti-swing system and providing a reference for improving anti-swing performance and lifting efficiency in offshore DMP operations. Combined with rigid-flexible coupling virtual prototype technology, a rigid-flexible coupling virtual prototype model of a shearer with an output shaft as the modal neutral file was established. The output shaft is a typical symmetrical part, and it is of great significance to analyze it by using dynamic theory and mechanical reliability theory. The shearer system modal, the stress distribution of output shaft, and vibration characteristics were obtained by dynamic simulation. Based on resonance failure criterion and combined with a neural network, the output shaft stress reliability, vibration reliability, amplitude reliability, and reliability sensitivity were analyzed under relevant failure modes. The state function of the output shaft reliability optimization design was established, and the structural evolution algorithm obtained the optimal design variables. The results show that the maximum stress of the output shaft is reduced by 14.06%, the natural frequency of the output shaft is increased, the amplitude of the output shaft is reduced by 31.13%, and the reliability of the output shaft is improved. The combination of rigid-flexible coupling virtual prototype technology, reliability sensitivity design theory considering correlated failure modes, and structural evolution algorithm provides a more reliable analysis method for the reliability analysis and design of mechanical equipment transmission mechanisms, which can enhance the reliability of the shearer’s cutting unit and improve safety in fully mechanized coal mining faces. The proposed methodology demonstrates broad applicability in the reliability analysis of critical components for mining machinery, exhibiting universal adaptability across various operational scenarios. The dynamic interactions among the internal components of aero-engine main shaft bearings under unsteady-state conditions are intricate, involving clearance collisions, contact, friction, and lubrication. The dynamic characteristics of bearings significantly influence the performance and stability of mechanical systems. This study establishes a rigid–flexible coupling dynamic model for angular contact ball bearings with two-piece inner rings based on Hertz contact theory and lubrication theory. It systematically analyzes the dynamic characteristics of bearings under the coupling effects of acceleration, deceleration, and impact load. This study explores the influence of various loads, bearing speeds, and groove curvature radius coefficients on the dynamic characteristics of bearings. The findings indicate that the uniform speed phase of a bearing is highly responsive to impact load, followed by the deceleration phase, while the acceleration phase shows lower sensitivity to impact load. The groove curvature radius coefficient significantly affects the contact stress between the ball and its corresponding raceway, with contact stress increasing as the groove curvature radius coefficient rises. As the axial load decreases and the radial load, bearing speed, and groove curvature radius coefficient increase, there is a rise in pocket force, guiding force, and maximum equivalent stress of the flexible cage. Impact load leads to short-term intense fluctuations in the thickness of the bearing oil film, which can be alleviated by an increase in axial load. The oil film thickness firstly increases and then decreases with respect to the groove curvature radius coefficient. Furthermore, variations in bearing speed notably influence the thickness of the bearing oil film. This study analyzes the dynamic characteristics of bearings under the coupling effects of acceleration, deceleration, and impact load, offering insights for the design and optimization of angular contact ball bearings with two-piece inner rings. In this study, a novel rigid–flexible coupled computational model for floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) is developed using the vector-form intrinsic finite element (VFIFE) method, named VFIFE-FOWT. This framework integrates multi-body dynamics and the VFIFE method to establish a comprehensive dynamic model for FOWTs, enabling high-fidelity simulations of FOWT systems. Validation of the VFIFE-FOWT model is conducted through comparisons with results from the industry-standard software OpenFAST, together with experimental data from a 1:80 scale model test of a shallow-draft stepped Spar platform equipped with a NREL 5MW wind turbine. The results demonstrate good agreement, verifying the accuracy and reliability of the proposed VFIFE-FOWT framework for predicting the dynamic behavior of FOWTs. Full article

Ionizing radiations are responsible for bond scission, radical formation, and oxidative degradation of polymer matrices. This study focuses on the effects of gamma irradiation on solid propellant binders, targeting a comprehensive chemical and mechanical characterization of different formulations. Samples were produced either by conventional methods based on hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene and standard polyaddition reaction using isocyanates, or innovative approaches involving UV-driven radical curing. The samples were irradiated for comparison and to study their evolution as a function of three absorbed doses (25, 45, 130 kGy) for preliminary characterization studies, using a 60-Co gamma source. Samples were irradiated in air at uncontrolled room temperature. The coupling of spectroscopy techniques (Fourier transform infrared—FTIR, Raman and electron paramagnetic resonance—EPR) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) highlighted the key role of antioxidant agents in tailoring mechanical changes in the binder phase. The absence of antioxidants enhances radical formation, oxidation, and cross-linking. These processes lead to progressively increased rigidity and reduced flexibility as a function of the absorbed dose. Complex interactions between photocured components largely influence radical stabilization and material degradation. These findings provide valuable insights for designing novel radiation-resistant binders, enabling the development of solid propellants tailored for reliable, long-term permanence in space, and advancing the knowledge on the applicability of 3D-printed propellants.
