Objective: This study aimed to identify psychological characteristics associated with suicidal ideation among Palestinian university students in the West Bank during a period of escalating regional violence (October 2023), with data collected prior to the end of the war, a period marked by intensified political violence and collective trauma. The goal was to identify empirically derived psychological profiles of distress and coping using Latent Profile Analysis. Method: A cross-sectional survey of 900 students assessed depression, anxiety, self-efficacy, resilience, help-seeking attitudes, and suicidal ideation during the past 12 months. Latent Profile Analysis (LPA), logistic regression, and moderated mediation analysis were employed to investigate the relationships between distress, self-efficacy, resilience, and suicidal ideation. Results: Results indicate that depression and anxiety are associated with increased 12-month suicidal ideation, but greater self-efficacy appears to reduce this risk. The mediation analysis revealed that self-efficacy partially explains the relationship between distress and suicidal ideation; however, resilience did not have a significant moderating effect. The LPA identified three distinct psychological profiles, with the highest-risk group exhibiting significant distress and low self-efficacy. Conclusions: These results highlight the significant mental health burden faced by Palestinian youth and underscore the importance of internal psychological resources, particularly self-efficacy, that are associated with lower levels of suicidal ideation. Enhancing self-efficacy may offer a culturally relevant approach for prevention efforts in politically unstable environments. Full article

Background/Objectives: We sought to determine the factors associated with Emergency Department (ED) healthcare workers (HCW) reluctance to seek, utilize, or take advantage of psychological support services during the pandemic. Methods: A 53-item survey, delivered via REDCap, was completed by ED staff in seven hospitals between 15 July 2020 and 24 August 2020. Results: 351 participants (28.7% response rate) completed the survey with 20.1% of respondents endorsing clinically significant psychiatric symptoms and 31.7% of participants endorsing burnout. 75% of those who endorsed significant emotional symptoms did not seek formal psychological support. Most of those (33/44) who did not seek support, despite anxiety and/or depression, reported experiencing practical barriers (access, cost, time, confidentiality) while emotional barriers (not wanting to acknowledge needing help; stigma; embarrassment) were endorsed by 22.7% (10/44). Conclusions: These findings offer several opportunities for intervention, including changes to workflow and culture in the ED which may address emotional barriers to self-care and pragmatic system changes that may help address practical barriers. Sequential recommendations seek to predict the next item a user will interact with by modeling historical behavior, yet most approaches emphasize either temporal dynamics or item relationships and thus miss how structural co-intents interact with dynamic preference shifts under realistic evaluation. IntentGraphRec introduces a dual-level framework that builds an intent graph from session co-occurrences to learn intent-aware item representations with a lightweight GNN, paired with a shift-aware Transformer that adapts attention to evolving preferences via a learnable fusion gate. To avoid optimistic bias, evaluation is performed with a leakage-free, full-catalog ranking protocol that forms prefixes strictly before the last target occurrence and scores against the entire item universe while masking PAD and prefix items. On MovieLens-1M and Gowalla, IntentGraphRec is competitive but does not surpass strong Transformer baselines (SASRec/BERT4Rec); controlled analyses indicate that late fusion is often dominated by sequence representations and that local co-intent graphs provide limited gains unless structural signals are injected earlier or regularized. These findings provide a reproducible view of when structural signals help, and when they do not, in sequential recommendations and offer guidance for future graph–sequence hybrids. Full article

The transnationalism phenomenon is at the forefront of today’s globalized world. This ethnographic self-reconstruction recounts a personal story as a transnational. I reflect on my engagement in continuous transnational migration practices, and on how these have and continue to mediate my identity [re]construction and my development of conocimiento. These insights help not only contribute to the under-explored body of literature that has adopted a comparative stance in looking at transnationalism and education on both sides of the U.S.–Mexico border, but also seek to promote conversation around the behaviors and cognitive benefits of those who engage in such ongoing migration practices and are immersed in educational settings. How are the institutional features of religious organizations formed? In seeking to explain religious change and development, an increasing number of sociologists of religion emphasize the importance of organizational features. However, few scholars have examined how these institutional features take shape during the early stages of religious organizations. Given that emerging religions often originate in marginalized contexts with scarce resources and limited support, this paper draws on the theory of interstitial space to analyze how such relatively unstructured and flexible environments—which provide greater freedom and adaptability for agents—affect religious development. The study finds that interstitial space fosters religious innovation and helps shape the institutional features of emerging religions. Furthermore, this paper proposes four explanatory mechanisms to illustrate how the interstitial space in multiple marginalized areas shapes the features of religious organizations. These mechanisms can shed light on the development of various religious sects, including Chan Buddhism and Pure Land Buddhism in the early Tang dynasty. Full article

Background: eHealth literacy (eHL) is the ability to seek, find, understand, and apply digital health information. Adolescents often overestimate their eHL skills, potentially leading to poor health decisions and posing a public health concern. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors toward eHL and seeking health information online among a sample of Italian adolescents aged 10–19 to identify the sociodemographic characteristics and other variables that are associated with the outcomes of interest. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a structured questionnaire, including the eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS). Results: A total of 793 Italian adolescents from seven public schools in Naples, southern Italy, participated in the survey. Among the participants, 58.6% had an eHEALS score below 27. A higher eHL was associated with being male, perceiving the Internet as useful for health decisions, the use of electronic devices for seeking health information, consulting institutional/scientific sources, having a mother with lower education, and having parents without underlying chronic conditions. Additionally, a higher eHL, male sex, younger age, and Internet use for seeking health information in the last three months were linked to perceiving the Internet as a helpful tool for health decision making. Conclusions: Overall, Italian adolescents reported suboptimal eHL with sex, attitudes, and parental factors playing significant roles. Targeted educational interventions are needed to enhance eHL in this specific age group. Full article

Dietary supplementation is commonly used by athletes to gain muscle mass, enhance performance, and improve recovery. Most adults engage in insufficient physical activity. Yet healthy muscles are also critical for activities of daily living (ADLs), maintaining a good quality of life and positive ageing. There is growing interest in whether dietary supplementation is of value, particularly among subgroups such as the occasionally active, the ill and elderly, and peri- and menopausal women. By focusing on function, performance, mass and strength, ADLs, exercise-induced muscle damage and delayed onset muscle soreness, this review sought to examine muscle health through a nutritional lens. Further, to look at the potential benefits and harms of some commonly proposed dietary supplements in non-athlete adults, while exploring the emerging role of the gut–muscle axis. Inflammation appears central to cellular events. Several supplements were identified that, alone or in combination, may help optimise muscle health, particularly when combined with exercise or where a deficit may exist. Although supportive evidence is emerging, real-world clinical benefits remain to be substantiated. Though dietary supplements are generally safe, their regulation is less stringent than for medicines. Adherence to recommended dosage, seeking medical advice regarding possible side effects/interactions, and obtaining supplies from reliable sources are recommended. Full article

This study investigates the conditions under which workplace loneliness influences employees’ help-seeking behavior. Drawing on the conservation of resources theory and the theory of planned behavior, we propose that loneliness does not uniformly discourage interpersonal engagement but can motivate help-seeking under certain circumstances. Using survey data from 260 full-time Korean employees, we find that workplace loneliness is positively associated with help-seeking when employees perceive high levels of transactive memory systems or work meaningfulness. These moderating effects suggest that the negative impact of loneliness on help-seeking can be attenuated or reversed when key contextual and motivational resources are present. We discuss the implications of these findings for understanding workplace loneliness as a potentially adaptive response rather than solely a detrimental experience. Full article

Background: Dispelling myths is crucial for policy and health communication because misinformation can directly influence public behavior, undermine trust in institutions, and lead to harmful outcomes. This study aims to assess the effectiveness and differences between OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google Gemini in dispelling myths about children’s and adolescents’ mental health. Methods: Using seven myths about mental health from the UNICEF & WHO Teacher’s Guide, ChatGPT-4o and Gemini were asked to “classify each sentence as a myth or a fact”. Responses of each LLM for word count, understandability, readability and accuracy were analyzed. Results: Both ChatGPT and Gemini correctly identified all 7 statements as myths. The average word count of ChatGPT’s responses was 60 ± 11 words, while Gemini’s responses averaged 60 ± 29 words, a statistically non-significant difference between the LLMs. The Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level averaged 11.7 ± 2.2 for ChatGPT and 10.2 ± 1.3 for Gemini, also a statistically non-significant difference. In terms of readability, both ChatGPT and Gemini’s answers were considered difficult to read, with all grades exceeding the 7th grade level. The findings should nonetheless be interpreted with caution due to the limited dataset. Conclusions: The study adds valuable insights into the strengths of ChatGPT and Gemini as helpful resources for people seeking medical information about children’s and adolescents’ mental health, although the content may not be as easily accessible to those below a college reading level. Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), a member of the family Coronaviridae, markedly increases morbidity and mortality in neonatal piglets, posing a significant threat to the global swine industry. Cell death represents a double-edged sword: it eliminates infected cells and helps maintain host homeostasis, but it contributes to disease development and progression when dysregulated. Numerous coronaviruses have been shown to induce cell death through well-characterized mechanisms; however, the interplay between PEDV and host cell death remains insufficiently defined. This review seeks to comprehensively delineate the molecular mechanisms by which PEDV modulates cell death, focusing on apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, and their integrated form, PANoptosis. Furthermore, we summarize current therapeutic strategies targeting these pathways, providing a theoretical framework and potential directions for developing interventions against PEDV infection. The increasing prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a significant health concern influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. However, limited data exist on the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics associated with ASD in our region. This cross-sectional study assessed 200 children (155 boys and 45 girls) diagnosed with ASD at Hawler Psychiatric Hospital in Erbil city between January and December 2023. The Childhood Autism Rating Scale-Second Edition (CARS-2) was used for diagnosis and severity assessment. The mean age of participants was 4.6 ± 1.8 years, with males representing 77.5% of the sample. Cesarean section was the most common mode of delivery. The average parental ages were 34.8 years for mothers and 38.5 years for fathers. The first signs of autism were noticed at a mean age of 25.7 ± 9.7 months, with the first medical consultation at 34.6 ± 15.4 months and diagnosis at 42.4 ± 15.5 months. Delayed speech was the most common reason for seeking medical help. Statistically significant associations were found between severe autism symptoms and several factors, including older child age, younger age at first assessment, delayed speech, parental consanguinity, paternal age over 40, lower paternal education, and lower socioeconomic status. These findings emphasize the critical role of early detection and the influence of both socio-demographic and clinical factors on ASD symptom severity, highlighting the need for targeted early intervention strategies to improve outcomes in affected children. Background/Objectives: Persons identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, queer, questioning, fluid, asexual, or other non-heterosexual orientations (LGB+ persons) have been identified as a risk group for sexual victimization (SV), which can have long-lasting negative effects on well-being and physical, mental, sexual, and reproductive health. Othering-Based Stress (OBS)—reflecting societal processes of othering and resulting from stigma, prejudice, and discrimination—may contribute to increased vulnerability to SV and its consequences in LGB+ persons and affect help-seeking behavior following victimization. This study examines the impact of SV on LGB+ persons and their help-seeking behavior after victimization. Methods: Using a mixed-methods explanatory sequential design, first survey data from a nationally representative sample of the Belgian population on SV, its consequences, and subsequent help-seeking behavior were collected from 4632 individuals. Of these, 2965 participants (2601 heterosexual and 364 LGB+ individuals) experienced SV and represented the final sample for the quantitative analyses. In a second phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with 40 LGB+ victims to explore their experiences more thoroughly. Results: LGB+ individuals reported more negative consequences following SV than heterosexual persons, particularly regarding identity-related processes such as questioning gender expression and decreases in self-esteem. They also reported additional barriers to disclosing SV and seeking help from professional services or the police, including fears of stigma, invalidation, and concerns about professionals’ LGB+ competence. No significant differences were found between LGB+ persons who explicitly identified as belonging to a sexual minority group and those who did not, neither in the perceived consequences of SV nor in help-seeking barriers. Conclusions: LGB+ victims of sexual violence experienced more severe identity-related consequences and faced greater barriers to professional support than heterosexual victims. These results highlight the urgent need for trauma-informed, LGB+-inclusive services and structural policy measures to improve access to appropriate care. Full article

Caregivers of a child with a serious medical condition are often confronted with difficult and stressful medical information. While they commonly seek out health-related information to better care for their child and help with their decision-making, sometimes caregivers engage in healthcare information avoidance. Healthcare information avoidance is the decision to prevent or delay the acquisition of available, but potentially unwanted, health-related information. We begin by defining the construct of healthcare information avoidance and exploring key theoretical frameworks that illuminate its underlying mechanisms including emotion regulation theory, attentional and cognitive models, approach-avoidance coping strategies, and dispositional theories. A lack of validated measures to assess caregiver healthcare information avoidance was noted as contributing to the dearth of empirical work in this area. Common areas of caregiver healthcare information avoidance were identified at various points throughout the pediatric palliative care illness trajectory. The review concludes with directions for future research and practical recommendations for clinical care, highlighting the importance of identifying the occurrence and reasons for caregiver information avoidance as well as optimizing approaches to information provision. Sustainable and durable materials are in increasing demand as the aerospace sector seeks to reduce its environmental footprint while enhancing performance and safety. Biocomposites, recycled materials, nanomaterials, and advanced composites are being explored as alternatives to conventional aircraft materials. This work analyses the available options by comparing the mechanical properties, environmental impact, and lifecycle costs of these materials, as well as the associated manufacturing and implementation challenges. There are a few examples of next-generation materials being used in the aircraft industry. Furthermore, regulatory and technical barriers to implementation emphasize the importance of certification processes and scalability considerations. The final part explores the next generation of recyclable and sustainable composite materials, which could potentially reduce the aerospace sector’s impact on greenhouse gas emissions. These comprise future research pathways in advanced aerospace materials that will help lead the industry towards sustainability. Full article

This conceptual paper presents a framework for understanding how technology can help transform formal education by blurring five foundational boundaries: time and space, knowledge, pedagogy, hierarchy, and community. It is grounded in the interactions between technology and key schooling components, namely, learners, instructors, peers, and content, and promotes thinking about technology integration in schools not merely as instrumental, but as a driver for educational change. We apply the framework to three reported cases of technology integration in different educational contexts, analyzing each in terms of its potential to disrupt traditional boundaries. Through this analysis, we illustrate how certain uses of technology may enable deeper pedagogical shifts and foster more equitable, flexible, and collaborative learning settings. This illustrates the power of the proposed framework in allowing a nuanced understanding of technology integration, and the entanglement of pedagogy and technology for meaningful changes to occur. The paper concludes with recommendations for educators, policymakers, researchers, and designers seeking to promote boundary-blurring innovation. Ultimately, we advocate for a shift in discourse—from using technology to optimize education, to using it to reimagine its foundational structures. Full article
