Indonesia is one of the world’s most seismically active countries, experiencing frequent earthquakes that make assessing regional resilience essential for disaster risk reduction. This study dynamically evaluates socioeconomic resilience in 28 regencies/municipalities affected by destructive earthquakes between 2016 and 2022. Resilience was quantified using the Adjusted Mazziotta–Pareto Index (AMPI) at three periods: pre-event (T0), during the event (T1), and post-event (T2). Index changes were interpreted as resistance (Δ1 = T1 − T0), recovery (Δ2 = T2 − T1), and adaptive capacity (Δ3 = T2 − T0). Results show substantial regional differences in resilience trajectories: some areas experienced only minor declines during the earthquake, while others were heavily affected but recovered quickly. Cluster analysis revealed distinct typologies, including consistently high-resilience regions, rapid-recovery regions, and persistently vulnerable regions. These disparities are associated with variation in economic capacity, social vulnerability, labor market conditions, and access to health services. Overall, the findings highlight the value of a multidimensional, time-sensitive approach to measuring socioeconomic resilience. The study advances an AMPI-based temporal measurement framework and offers policy insights for development planning and disaster mitigation. Full article

Tropical forests sustain exceptional biodiversity and regulate global carbon and water cycles, yet degradation and incomplete recovery increasingly compromise these functions. We integrated bibliometric mapping with structured systematic synthesis to characterize research at the tropical-forest degradation–restoration interface, identify its most influential contributors and publications, and evaluate evidence on drivers, interventions, monitoring, and knowledge gaps. This study addresses three guiding scientific questions: (i) How has the field developed over time and across geographic space? (ii) Which authors, institutions, journals and publications have been most influential? (iii) What does the evidence indicate about degradation drivers, restoration strategies, monitoring approaches and knowledge gaps? Scopus and Web of Science were searched for peer-reviewed articles and reviews published from 1980 to 2025. After deduplication and PRISMA-based screening, 1075 publications were analyzed bibliometrically, and the 400 most-cited studies were coded against twenty predefined questions. Scientific output increased by 10.68% annually, with 483 publications appearing during 2020–2025. The corpus comprised 318 journals and 4470 authors. Forest Ecology and Management was the leading source (141 publications; 13.1%), while the twenty most productive journals accounted for 44.3% of the corpus. Brancalion P.H.S. was the most productive author (23 publications), followed by Chazdon R.L. and Tabarelli M. (20 each). Citation influence was concentrated: the twenty most-cited documents received 25.7% of all citations, led by Ribeiro M.C. (3339 citations), whereas Hua F. achieved the highest publication-year-normalized citation score among this group. Agricultural expansion, pasture establishment, and logging were the most frequently reported degradation pressures, but interactions among logging, fire, drought, and fragmentation were rarely quantified. Restoration evidence supported a context-dependent continuum from natural regeneration to assisted and active interventions, although planting and enrichment were more visible than direct passive–active comparisons. Carbon, biomass, plant diversity, and forest structure dominated outcome assessment, whereas fauna, ecological interactions, governance, and socioeconomic dimensions received less attention. Monitoring relied mainly on satellite imagery and field inventories, with limited evaluation of tool performance. Long-term trajectories and evidence from Africa, Southeast Asia, seasonally dry forests, and montane systems remained scarce. Overall, the field is rapidly consolidating but remains geographically and thematically uneven. Future research should quantify interacting degradation processes, evaluate multidimensional and long-term recovery, connect remote sensing with ecologically meaningful field indicators, and integrate governance and social conditions into restoration planning. The synthesis supports preventing further degradation and treating restoration as a context-specific complement, rather than a substitute, for protecting remaining native forests. Full article

Informal waste picking has become a persistent informal sector in many developing countries. Waste pickers, among the most socially and economically disadvantaged groups in society, attempt to generate income by selling packaging waste collected from containers, while licensed recovery facilities obtain significantly higher economic returns from the same material flows. The aim of this study is to comparatively evaluate the economic and recycling impacts of informal waste pickers and licensed collection-sorting facilities on packaging waste recovery in Mersin, Türkiye. This study was conducted at a licensed medium-scale collection-sorting facility located in the Toroslar district of Mersin, Türkiye. The dataset consists of surveys conducted with 200 informal waste pickers, a one-year waste characterization study carried out at the facility, plastic fraction analyses for four selected months, facility records, and municipal solid waste recycling data calculated from official reports. Using these data, the economic and recycling impacts of informal waste pickers and formal recycling infrastructure were comparatively assessed. The findings indicated that waste pickers were predominantly male, unskilled, and lacked social security coverage. While the average monthly income of waste pickers was approximately USD 650, the facility generated a net monthly income of approximately USD 37,000 from recyclable packaging waste. The results revealed that the economic returns obtained from the same material flows were substantially higher within the formal recycling infrastructure. This study contributes to addressing a gap in the literature by providing real-time, micro-scale field data on the economic differences between informal waste collection activities and formal recycling infrastructure. Introduction: Marine recreational fishing (MRF) is a socially, economically, and ecologically important activity. However, the absence of systematic monitoring and research in Portugal has limited a comprehensive understanding of the sector and its broader implications. Addressing these gaps is essential to support evidence-based and adaptive recreational fisheries management. Objective: This work aimed to improve understanding of marine recreational fishing in Portugal by integrating social and biological perspectives across national, regional, and local scales. Methodology: A multidisciplinary approach was applied. At the national scale, online questionnaire data were combined with licencing information and regional effort estimates to quantify fishing effort, catches, release rates, catch composition, and direct trip expenditures. The same survey framework was also used to identify recreational fisher profiles based on motivations, behaviours, fishing practices, and attitudes toward management. At the local scale, shore angling surveys conducted before the implementation of the Natural Marine Park of the Algarve Reef were used to estimate fishing activity and establish a baseline for future monitoring. From a biological perspective, field-based catch-and-release experiments were conducted to assess post-release mortality and physiological disturbance, using indicators such as mortality, condition, capture and handling variables, and blood biomarkers of stress and recovery. Results: The national estimates documented substantial fishing effort, catches, and direct expenditure, confirming the relevance of MRF in Portugal at both ecological and socio-economic levels. Portuguese recreational fishers were also shown to be heterogeneous in their motivations, behaviours, and practices, reinforcing the need for management approaches that reflect this diversity. At the local scale, shore angling estimates from the Natural Marine Park of the Algarve Reef provided an important pre-protection baseline for the now established Marine Protected Area, enabling future comparisons and long-term assessment of management effects. Biological experiments showed that recreational fishing can generate measurable physiological disturbance in fish, with post-release condition influenced by capture and handling factors. Among the variables examined, hook location emerged as particularly important, with deep-hooked fish showing greater impairment and higher mortality risk. Conclusions: Together, these findings show that improving recreational fisheries management in Portugal requires integrating social patterns, fishery magnitude, and biological responses to capture and release. Long-term monitoring programmes, combined with management approaches adapted to different fisher profiles and fishing contexts, are essential to support more effective and sustainable recreational fisheries governance. This study examines how individual political predispositions and national mobilisation contexts jointly structure protest participation in contemporary Europe across the pre-pandemic, pandemic and post-pandemic periods. Using data from Rounds 9, 10 and 11 of the European Social Survey (2018–2023), the analytical sample includes 106,106 respondents from 33 countries. Descriptively, protest participation remains a minority behaviour, yet displays pronounced cross-national heterogeneity, with participation rates ranging from below 3% in several Central and Eastern European countries to nearly 20% in the most mobilised contexts and remains remarkably stable across rounds at approximately 8.5%. Building on resource mobilisation theory, political process approaches and New Social Movements perspectives, the analysis conceptualises protest participation not as an isolated behavioural act but as the outcome of interactions between individual resources, evaluative orientations toward democratic institutions and broader mobilisation environments. Logistic regression models, country fixed-effects specifications and multilevel models with random intercepts are used to assess these relationships. At the individual level, political engagement emerges as the strongest predictor of participation: higher political interest is associated with substantially higher protest propensity, while ideological self-placement indicates lower participation among respondents positioned further to the right. Younger age and higher education also increase participation. Lower satisfaction with democracy and stronger perceptions of inequality are consistently associated with protest behaviour, supporting grievance-based interpretations linked to democratic evaluations rather than material deprivation alone. Country fixed-effects and multilevel models confirm that these individual-level associations are robust within countries, while significant between-country variation persists (random-intercept SD = 0.554), indicating that national mobilisation environments shape baseline levels of protest participation. Multilevel results further reveal that protest participation was significantly lower during the pandemic period (Round 10) relative to the pre-pandemic baseline, with only partial recovery in the post-pandemic period. A cross-round comparison demonstrates that the core individual-level associations are stable across all three periods, indicating that these relationships reflect durable structural patterns rather than dynamics specific to any particular mobilisation cycle. Beyond this overall stability, the analysis identifies two theoretically informative exceptions: subjective financial difficulty is significant only in the pre-pandemic period and gender differences in protest participation attenuate over time—patterns consistent with broader shifts in protest repertoires during and after the pandemic. These findings make three contributions to the comparative literature on contentious politics. First, by extending the analysis across three ESS rounds, the study demonstrates the temporal robustness of individual-level determinants of protest—an empirical question rarely addressed in the existing literature. Second, the multilevel design with round fixed effects allows for direct estimation of pandemic-related suppression and post-pandemic recovery in protest activity at the aggregate level. Third, the cross-national scope and temporally structured comparison provide new evidence on how individual political predispositions interact with shifting mobilisation environments across a period of exceptional socio-political strain in Europe. Introduction: Post-hospital rehabilitation is essential for survivors of severe COVID-19, as prolonged immobility and clinical severity often lead to muscle weakness, reduced cardiovascular capacity, and impaired respiratory function. Physical exercise during and after hospitalization may mitigate these effects and support functional recovery. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a physical exercise-based rehabilitation program in survivors of severe COVID-19. Methodology: A randomized clinical trial was conducted with 30 survivors allocated to two groups: multicomponent exercise (GEm) and multicomponent exercise combined with inspiratory muscle training (GEmTMI). The interventions were performed three times per week for 40–60 min. Quality of life, physical activity level, functional status, and physical capacity were assessed before and after six weeks. Results: Comparisons between GEm and GEmTMI showed significant differences in the 6 min walk test (6MWT) at baseline (p = 0.043) and in the Physical Activity Index (IPAQ) after the intervention (p = 0.002). When the total sample was analyzed, significant improvements were observed across all outcomes after rehabilitation, including quality of life (SF-36), functional capacity (PCFS), physical activity level (IPAQ), respiratory muscle strength, and additional functional tests. Notable improvements included SF-36 Physical Functioning (p = 0.006) and Social Functioning (p = 0.009), PCFS (p = 0.011), IPAQ (p = 0.012), and performance in the 6MWT, STS, STS-1min, TUG, handgrip strength, PEmax, and PImax (all p < 0.001). Discussion: Multicomponent physical rehabilitation, with or without inspiratory muscle training, produced significant gains in physical activity level, functional capacity, dynamic balance, neuromuscular fitness, respiratory muscle strength, and quality of life. These findings underscore the importance of structured post-ICU rehabilitation to support comprehensive physical and psychosocial recovery in survivors of severe COVID-19. Full article

As a core tenet of Green Urbanism, fostering social sustainability through restorative urban environments is essential for enhancing the psychological resilience of active urban generations. While urban parks are recognized as critical blue-green infrastructure, the micro-mechanisms through which their morphological configurations influence perceived restoration remain insufficiently understood. The aim of this study is to investigate how specific landscape element types and proportions in urban parks modulate the visual behavior and psychological restorative outcomes of young urban populations through a multimodal experimental approach. This study employs a novel assessment framework, integrating VR-based eye-tracking and physiological monitoring (HRV, EDA, EEG), with a sample of 77 young adults (aged 18–30) to investigate how landscape element types and proportions modulate visual behavior and restorative outcomes. The findings indicate that landscape components drive restoration through divergent visual cognitive pathways: natural elements promote recovery by fostering sustained visual engagement and exploratory saccades, whereas artificial elements function as cognitive stressors that fragment visual continuity. Mediation analysis further reveals a “quality-over-quantity” effect, demonstrating that restorative efficacy is governed by specific morphological configurations rather than mere green coverage. We identify critical restorative thresholds where the systematic reduction in artificial visibility, combined with the strategic prioritization of multi-layered vegetation and optimized sky openness, significantly maximizes restorative fascination and physiological relaxation. These evidence-based design strategies offer a precise toolkit for sustainable urban renewal, allowing urban planners to optimize the restorative quality of public spaces. By aligning micro-scale visual perception with macro-scale social sustainability goals, this research contributes to the development of resilient and health-promoting cities under the principles of Green Urbanism. Background and Objectives: Psychological resilience is increasingly recognized as a determinant of how patients respond to surgical stress, yet its role in perioperative medicine remains poorly defined. This narrative review aims to synthesize current evidence on resilience in surgical populations from a psychobiological perspective, spanning conceptual models, measurement approaches, clinical correlates, biological mechanisms, and intervention strategies. Materials and Methods: This narrative review was conducted to examine psychological resilience in adult surgical populations from an integrated psychobiological and perioperative perspective. A structured literature search was performed in December 2026 using PubMed, Scopus, and PsycInfo, combining resilience-related constructs with surgical, perioperative, biological, and clinical outcome keywords. Eligible publications included observational, longitudinal, interventional, translational, and conceptually relevant studies addressing resilience in adult surgical settings. Evidence was synthesized qualitatively across predefined domains, including conceptualization and measurement of resilience, associations with perioperative outcomes, neuroendocrine and inflammatory mechanisms, and resilience-modulating interventions within perioperative and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) frameworks. Results: Contemporary models conceptualize resilience as a dynamic, context-dependent process supported by interacting psychological, biological, and social factors. In surgical cohorts, higher resilience is consistently associated with better patient-reported outcomes, including quality of life, pain control, and emotional adjustment, and in some studies with survival and functional recovery. Preoperative depression, anxiety, maladaptive coping, and low social support converge as components of a broader “resilience profile” linked to poorer postoperative trajectories. Biologically, resilient phenotypes are characterized by more regulated hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal and autonomic responses and reduced inflammatory activation. Psychological therapies, prehabilitation programs, and selected pharmacological strategies show convergent, though heterogeneous, signals of benefit and can be interpreted as indirect resilience-enhancing interventions. Conclusions: Resilience appears to be a clinically meaningful, potentially modifiable construct that links psychosocial functioning, biological vulnerability, and postoperative outcomes. Incorporating resilience assessment into preoperative risk stratification and systematically embedding resilience-building strategies within perioperative and ERAS pathways may support more personalized, psychologically informed surgical care. Prospective, multidomain studies are needed to validate measurement tools, clarify mechanisms, and test resilience-targeted interventions in surgical populations. Full article

Climate change is a pressing issue that has far-reaching effects on the global ecosystem, societies, and economies. Climate-induced disasters exacerbate multidimensional poverty through economic, social, and environmental pathways. This study examines the relationship between climate-induced disasters and multidimensional poverty, applying a mixed-method design comprising a PRISMA-guided systematic review and thematic analysis. Articles published between 1999 and 2025 were retrieved from Scopus and Web of Science, yielding 3587 articles. After reference checking and screening for relevance and availability, we finally reviewed 17 articles. The results highlight that climate-induced disasters disrupt economic and livelihood activities, negatively impact GDP, slow financial development, reduce per capita expenditure ability, and harm agricultural production. Disasters also have negative impacts on health and well-being, education, gender, the natural environment, and culture; these disasters promote intergenerational poverty. Among all stressors, floods and droughts are the most pervasive, and they have different magnitudes and durations of impacts. The assessment identifies governance quality, gender inequality, education, social positions, and environmental degradation as the significant mediating systems influencing vulnerability and recovery. To cope with vulnerabilities, individuals employ a variety of strategies based on their socioeconomic status. Building on these insights, the study develops the Multidimensional Climate–Poverty Dynamics (MCPD) Framework to conceptually capture climate–poverty as a socially constructed and institutionally mediated process. The study contributes theoretically to environmental sociology and empirically to climate policy by framing adaptation as a social process of transformation rather than as solely a survival mechanism. Mining is an important industry for the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs), but it results in a significant amount of degraded land worldwide, thereby affecting local social and ecological sustainability. Little is known about the extent to which this degraded land adheres to the current SDGs. In this study, based on public geographic information data, the status of SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) for global mine sites was comprehensively assessed. The results show that (1) the global aggregation index for SDG 11 and 15 in mining areas increased from 23.94 in 2000 to 24.48 in 2020, generally exhibiting a positive trend. (2) For SDG 11, all four indicators indicate improvement, suggesting enhancement of the sustainability of cities and communities surrounding global mined land, as well as urban development, mining activities, and economic growth. In contrast, regarding SDG 15, there were noticeable improvements in the water body area and land reclamation ratio, but the forest coverage ratio and net ecosystem productivity significantly declined, indicating continued stress on ecosystems caused by mining. (3) Less than 1% of mines globally met the green grade in SDG 11, and around 97% were categorized as red grade. For SDG 15, no mines reached the green grade, and at least 99.74% were categorized as red grade mines. (4) Globally, the status has exhibited obvious spatial clustering, and the region with a better status is in the equatorial region. There has been obvious spatial heterogeneity within countries, and mine sites near urban areas have had a better status according to these SDGs. The main influencing factors on the status of mines, according to the SDGs, include the degree of mining disturbance, ecosystem recovery capacity, and urban expansion. Overall, the global status of mines according to the SDGs is far from expectation, indicating a considerable gap from achieving sustainable mining and necessitating efforts to improve human habitats and restore ecosystems in mining areas. Future endeavors should focus on strengthening site specific assessment and long-term monitoring of the global SDGs in mining areas to provide foundational data and scientific evidence for sustainable mining and the realization of SDGs. Background: With rapid urbanization, mental health challenges such as depression and emotional distress are becoming increasingly common. Contact with natural environments has been shown to improve mental health, yet most studies focus on direct associations between environmental exposure and mental health. The behavioral mechanisms underlying these benefits remain underexplored. This study aims to investigate whether outdoor activity frequency mediates the relationship between individuals’ intention to engage in outdoor activities and depressive mood. Methods: We used data from the 2021 Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS). Drawing on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and supported by Stress Recovery Theory (SRT) and Attention Restoration Theory (ART), we constructed a mediation model. Ordinary Least Squares regression, ordered logistic regression, and mediation analysis were applied to assess the relationships among outdoor activity intention, activity frequency, and depressive mood. Results: The analyses revealed three main findings. First, outdoor activity intention alone did not directly reduce depressive mood. Second, outdoor activity frequency significantly alleviated depressive mood, suggesting that actual behavioral engagement with nature is critical. Third, the effect of outdoor activity intention on depressive mood was fully mediated by activity frequency. Conclusions: The results demonstrate that the mental health benefits of natural environments are not automatically derived from intention or preference but require active and frequent engagement. These findings provide empirical support for behavior-based interventions in urban mental health strategies and establish a theoretical foundation for future research on the pathways linking nature and mental health. Natural threats are becoming increasingly frequent and difficult to anticipate, urging public authorities and stakeholders to adopt sustainable methodologies and tools capable of continuously supplying historical and real-time data on hazards and their impacts. Such tools enable the prompt activation of recovery actions, enhance the resilience of citizens and the built environment, and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper presents an interoperable and multipurpose framework developed within the MULTICLIMACT project (GA n. 101123538), designed to enhance urban smartness and sustainability, and to support and improve resilience in municipal decision-making. The framework integrates heterogeneous data sources into a unified environment, covering infrastructures, buildings, and social systems. It also includes physiological monitoring, which collects physiological parameters from wearable sensors in a privacy-preserving way, and microclimate monitoring, which records indoor air quality in inhabited environments. Simulation-based analyses are applied to capture cascading effects of disruptions, while multidimensional indicators (societal, economic, operational, and health-related) are used to quantify resilience. The approach was implemented in the Italian municipality of Camerino, where hazard monitoring systems, impact assessment tools, and indoor comfort data were integrated and validated in the SCP-MULTICLIMACT platform. The proposed approach offers a replicable model for integrating environmental and health data in support of climate resilience and sustainable urban development. Full article

The increasing emphasis on environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and the transition to a circular economy requires industries, including the wood-processing sector, to integrate sustainability into strategic and operational management. Green growth indicators represent essential tools for evaluating the environmental, economic, and social impacts of business activities, while also contributing to the sustainable economics and responsible management of forest resources and products. This study applies a qualitative research design using structured interviews with 10 executives from medium and large woodworking enterprises in Slovakia. The interviews examined company strategies, practices, and challenges in sustainable development and forest resource utilization. The findings reveal that while many companies actively manage waste, invest in green technologies, and conduct internal audits, the broader implementation of environmental management systems and the uptake of public sustainability funding remain limited. Notably, 90% of respondents emphasized waste volume and recovery rates as critical indicators. Based on the results, a set of green growth indicators was developed and categorized across key thematic areas including waste management, energy efficiency, stakeholder communication, certification, and strategic planning. These indicators not only support the assessment of corporate sustainability but also strengthen efficient forest resource management, responsible use of raw materials, and the long-term economic viability of the sector. The study highlights the importance of systematically designed and practically applicable indicators for guiding companies toward sustainable competitiveness and emphasizes the need for stronger institutional support, improved access to reliable data, and integration of sustainability metrics into core business decision-making. Background: The ongoing discourse surrounding the connection between atrial fibrillation (AF) and stroke continues to be a topic of considerable discussion. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a well-established risk factor for ischemic stroke, yet the prognostic significance of paroxysmal AF in functional recovery remains uncertain. While persistent AF has consistently been associated with more severe strokes and poorer outcomes, evidence regarding paroxysmal AF is limited and conflicting. This research examines how paroxysmal AF influences the severity of post-stroke disability in individuals experiencing acute ischemic stroke. Materials and Methods: A total of 236 patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke and cardiovascular risk factors were evaluated upon admission to the Neurology Department. Of these, 118 patients with paroxysmal AF were assigned to Group A, and 118 patients without AF were assigned to Group B. To determine the severity of disability, clinical, neurological, and imaging assessments were performed utilizing the modified Rankin Scale (mRS), Activities of Daily Living (ADL) score, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and Medical Research Council (MRC) scale. Results: Patients in Group A exhibited significantly poorer outcomes in comparison to those in Group B, evidenced by lower ADL scores, elevated NIHSS and MRC scores, and increased levels of disability (p < 0.05). Within Group A, a stronger correlation was observed between mRS scores and neurological symptoms, motor deficits, and daily functioning. Logistic regression analysis indicated that among all stroke patients (comprising Groups A and B), the probability of experiencing moderate to severe disability (mRS ≥ 3) escalated by 31.6% for each unit increase in NIHSS and diminished by 64.5% for every unit increase in MRC. In Group A, an increase of one unit in ADL correspondingly lowered the risk of mRS ≥ 3 by 22.7%, in contrast to a reduction of 17.8% in the overall stroke population (Groups A and B combined). Additionally, an enhancement in MRC score led to an 83.5% decrease in the risk of disability within Group A, compared to a 75.8% reduction in Group B. Moreover, in Group A, each unit increment in the HAS-BLED score was associated with a 32.5% rise in the risk of severe disability (OR = 1.325; 95% CI: 1.015–1.729; p < 0.05). Conclusions: Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation was significantly associated with a higher risk of moderate to severe disability following acute ischemic stroke compared to patients without AF. The severity of post-stroke disability in Group A is closely linked to reduced functional independence (lower ADL), more pronounced neurological impairment (higher NIHSS), greater motor deficits (lower MRC), and increased bleeding risk (higher HAS-BLED score). These findings highlight the importance of early identification and comprehensive monitoring of functional, neurological, and cardiovascular parameters in stroke patients with paroxysmal AF. Tailored rehabilitation strategies aimed at improving motor function, daily living activities, and controlling hemorrhagic risk can play a crucial role in reducing long-term disability and enhancing the reintegration of these patients into family and social life. To contribute to the emerging knowledge on the sustainability impacts of small, circular clothing reuse businesses in the US, we employed a case study research methodology to empirically test the case of Circular Thrift, an innovative, community-based startup business model with potential to create a circular fashion ecosystem on the firm level. Primary data on circular activities were collected on site within the first year of business operation. The Life Cycle Assessment methodology was conducted to assess environmental impact avoidance. The social impact of reused products was assessed to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the benefits of born circular business models. Tangible environmental benefits accounted for the collection of 10,772 apparel units and resulted in the diversion of 2311.05 kg (approximately 5095 pounds) of clothing from the local landfill. Social impact accounted for 45.86% of the collected items that were given back to the local community. Empirical testing of the environmental benefits of a Circular Thrift business model makes a strong case for scaling up reusable efforts as a means to address post-consumer textile waste at the local community level within the US, where formal and government-regulated resource collection and recovery systems still do not exist.
