Participation in a Voluntary Blood Donation Program as an Opportunity to Assess and Enhance Tetanus Immunity in Adult Blood Donors with an Outdated or Unknown Vaccination Status

Background/Objectives: Booster vaccination coverage in the adult population in Poland remains insufficient. The objective of this study was to utilize the opportunity of a visit to the Regional Blood Transfusion Center in Wroclaw—associated with blood donation—as a means to remind individuals about the need for tetanus booster vaccination and to assess tetanus immunity in healthy adults (30–40 years after their last mandatory dose) who had not received booster immunizations. Materials and Methods: A total of 97 blood donors aged 50 to 64 years (median age: 54 years) were enrolled, of whom 78% were male. 1. Tetanus immunity was assessed by a single measurement of serum anti-tetanus IgG antibody concentration. 2. A questionnaire was used to collect data relevant to tetanus immune status. 3. Individuals with insufficient protection received a booster dose of the tetanus vaccine, and the post-vaccination serologic response was evaluated. Results: 1. In the study group, 10.3% of participants had no protective immunity against Clostridium tetani, while 5.2% exhibited uncertain protection. An additional 32% demonstrated antibody levels conferring only short-term protection. Satisfactory protection—defined as immunity lasting at least 3 years—or long-term protection (at least 5 years) was identified in 52.5% of patients. Although 72% of donors reported receiving mandatory childhood immunizations, only 5% could provide medical documentation. In this subgroup, a significantly higher geometric mean antibody concentration was observed (0.69 vs. 0.52 IU/mL; p = 0.04), and significantly fewer participants required immediate post-exposure prophylaxis (1/39 vs. 14/54; p = 0.003). 2. Among the 46 individuals eligible for a booster dose, 17 (37%) returned for vaccination. Of these, 16 (94%) achieved antibody titers consistent with long-term protection following a single vaccine dose. Conclusions: Tetanus immunity among adults is heterogeneous and difficult to predict due to the frequent lack of vaccination records and unreliable self-reported histories. A history of injury and associated surgical wound care involving injection often serves as the only indication of prior vaccination. A single booster dose is highly effective in eliciting a robust immune response in individuals vaccinated during childhood but lacking recent boosters. Rising vaccine hesitancy toward both mandatory and recommended immunizations in Poland negatively influences adult decisions regarding tetanus vaccination. Participation in voluntary blood donation programs presents a valuable opportunity for immunization education, immune status screening, and the implementation of effective catch-up vaccination strategies. Background/Objectives: DTP3 (diphtheria–tetanus–pertussis vaccine, third dose) coverage is a key indicator of the strength and continuity of routine immunization programs, which demonstrably reduces the burden of infectious diseases globally. This study aims to assess trends in DTP3 vaccination coverage across Asian regions and countries from 2012 to 2023, focusing on changes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: DTP3 vaccination data were obtained from official WHO/UNICEF Estimates of National Immunization Coverage (WUENIC) and analyzed using Joinpoint regression to detect statistically significant changes in vaccination trends. Data were grouped by five Asian subregions based on the UN geoscheme (Central, Eastern, Southeastern, Southern, and Western Asia), and trends were weighted using birth cohort sizes. The presence of joinpoints and annual percentage changes (APCs) was calculated, and potential pandemic-related disruptions were contextualized. Results: At the continental level, Asia experienced a modest 0.4% annual increase in DTP3 coverage between 2012 and 2023, with a significant joinpoint detected in 2018. Following this, Southeast Asia’s coverage declined at an annual rate of −4.32% before beginning to recover in 2021, while South Asia showed a similar pattern. Country-level analysis revealed significant heterogeneity, with a comparison between 2019 and 2023 showing profound post-pandemic declines in some nations, such as Lebanon (–21%) and Myanmar (–9.4%), while others, like Iraq and the Philippines, achieved substantial recoveries with coverage increasing by over 6 percentage points. These trends contrasted with persistent declines in fragile states (e.g., Afghanistan, Yemen) and sustained high coverage in others (e.g., Bangladesh, Israel). The pandemic, systemic weaknesses, emerging vaccine hesitancy, and misinformation were identified as key influences. Conclusions: There is progress in DTP3 coverage across Asia. There were pandemic-related disruptions, particularly in regions with fragile health systems. Strategies to address zero-dose and dropout children, improve service continuity, and counter misinformation are essential to meet immunization targets under the Immunization Agenda 2030. Background: Pakistan reported its first case of COVID-19 in February 2020 and joined other countries in activating a national emergency response following the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). Playing a vital role in the early phase of the country’s response was the National Stop Transmission of Polio (NSTOP) program, a highly trained cadre of polio workers who ordinarily support polio eradication efforts in the country. Methods: We developed a reporting tool using Microsoft Excel that tracked the activities of NSTOP officers to support the COVID-19 response. All NSTOP officers submitted their activity reports fortnightly using this reporting tool. Each provincial NSTOP officer reviewed and compiled their respective officers’ reports and sent them to the federal NSTOP Team. We present a summary of the reports for the period from 1 March 2020 to 31 July 2020. Results: A total of 71 officers of the NSTOP program supported various aspects of Pakistan’s COVID-19 response, including coordination, detection and response activities, surveillance, quarantine/isolation management, training and orientation sessions for healthcare personnel, data analysis, community engagement, and risk communication. They successfully investigated 32,729 suspected COVID-19 cases, of which about one-third were confirmed cases, and facilitated the collection and dispatch of >57,000 samples from these cases. Conclusions: This report details NSTOP contributions to the early phase of the COVID-19 response in Pakistan, demonstrating the value of polio investments beyond eradicating the disease to encompass having a workforce that is ready to respond to emergent disease threats and outbreaks. Such a workforce could also play a role in strengthening the capacity of existing immunization systems to help improve routine vaccination coverage in resource-limited settings. Full article

Background/Objectives: Cervical cancer (CC), caused mainly by high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV), remains a global health challenge despite being preventable. The disease’s incidence and mortality rates significantly vary across regions, highlighting the need for effective screening programs. The World Health Organization prioritizes CC screening to monitor and eliminate the disease. The Screening for Cervical Cancer and Early Treatment (SCCET) project aligns with this goal by adhering to the 2012 National Program for Cervical Cancer Screening and implementing the European Guidelines of Quality Assurance. Methods: The SCCET initiative facilitates access to equitable and high-quality preventive medical services for Romanian women, incorporating the Babeș–Papanicolaou smear (Pap test) and/or hrHPV DNA screening. Focused on the Muntenia Region of South Romania, the project leverages a methodical approach to gather substantial medical data on hrHPV infection rates and cervical lesions, thereby improving health management for women in the screening program. Results: Through public information and educational campaigns about HPV and its link to CC, the SCCET project has significantly enhanced participation in the screening program. In the study conducted between September 2022 and March 2023, 14,385 women aged 30 to 64 years voluntarily participated; of these, 11,996 (83.4%) underwent primary hrHPV DNA screening and were tested using the PowerGene 9600 Plus Real-Time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system and the commercial Atila BioSystems AmpFire® HPV Screening 16/18/HR test, version 4.1. This substantial participation indicates a positive shift in public attitudes towards CC prevention and highlights the success of the project’s outreach efforts. The study revealed an overall prevalence of hrHPV infection of 12.24%; of these, the most common genotype was other hrHPV types (9.84%), followed by HPV 16 (2.3%) and HPV 18 (0.71%). Conclusions: The SCCET project’s recent data on primary hrHPV DNA screening showcases its pivotal role in advancing the management and prevention of CC in Romania. By providing accessible, high-quality screening services and fostering public education on HPV, the initiative has made significant strides toward reducing the burden of CC. This effort aligns with global public health goals, and providing updated information on the prevalence of hrHPV types will allow the development of personalized national screening and vaccination programs to eradicate CC. Background: Chicken pox is a rare but serious condition in neonates—often regarded as a common childhood illness with mild symptoms—yet it can lead to severe complications, especially in the perinatal period. Neonatal varicella may present with fever occurring within the first 5–10 days of life, followed by a generalized vesicular eruption. The syndrome is uncommon, largely due to the widespread immunity in women of childbearing age, acquired through prior chicken pox infection or varicella immunization. However in Indonesia, a developing country without a national mandatory varicella vaccination program, the disease burden remains significant, and cases of neonatal varicella are still encountered. Neonates are at high risk of severe varicella infection, which, if untreated, has a reported mortality rate of up to 30%. Although varicella is rare in neonates, there are limited studies that have reported it. This study highlights the clinical presentations upon admission, diagnostic investigations, therapeutic management strategies, and potential complications of neonatal varicella. Methods: This study presents two cases of neonatal varicella that were managed at Hasan Sadikin General Hospital in West Java, Indonesia. Each patient underwent a clinical assessment and diagnostic evaluation upon arrival, followed by therapeutic management strategies, including the management of any complications that emerged during treatment. Results: The two cases of neonates presented with classic clinical features of neonatal varicella, including a generalized vesicular rash followed by fever within the first 10 to 12 days of life, without dermatological lesions or congenital malformations at birth. In both cases, maternal chicken pox developed within the first few days postpartum, suggesting postnatal transmission as the likely source of infection. Complications observed included respiratory failure and pneumonia, requiring respiratory support. However, both neonates recovered successfully without the administration of IVIG. Conclusions: Early initiation of antiviral therapy, timely administration of antibiotics, comprehensive supportive care, and monitoring for potential complications play a crucial role in managing neonatal varicella, even in the absence of IVIG. Background: Vaccinations are crucial for preventing infectious diseases. Parental knowledge and attitudes significantly impact vaccination decisions. Methods: This study analyzed parental knowledge and opinions on childhood vaccinations (focus: measles, pertussis) and assessed vaccination coverage rates in Radomsko, Poland. A cross-sectional study (Jan–Mar 2025) combined the following: (1) parent questionnaires (children aged 6–11 years), including opinions based on the validated VAX scale and (2) analysis of official vaccination coverage data (sanitary inspection). Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics and logistic regression; results are presented as odds ratios (OR). Results: A total of 459 parents participated (mean age 38.9 years, 95% female, 67% Master’s-level education). Conclusions: Most correctly identified measles (92%) and pertussis (85%) vaccines as mandatory. Considerable confusion existed about newer mandatory vaccines and varicella (78% incorrectly thought mandatory). Analysis revealed the influence of both knowledge and opinions from the VAX scale on vaccination decisions. Higher parental education significantly increased vaccination adherence for pertussis (OR = 2.03; p < 0.001) and both diseases (OR = 1.83; p < 0.001). While general vaccination awareness was high (97%), detailed knowledge of Poland’s mandatory schedule was alarmingly low, especially for newer vaccines. Parental education level is a key determinant of both accurate knowledge and vaccination compliance. Targeted educational interventions are urgently needed to improve parental understanding and support public health goals. Full article

Background/Objectives: Long COVID, characterized by persistent symptoms following SARS-CoV-2 infection, poses a significant occupational health concern among healthcare workers (HCWs). This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of long COVID, symptom patterns, work-related impact, and vaccination status among healthcare personnel in a Romanian pediatric hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2024 among 903 hospital employees during routine occupational health assessments. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and medical records, focusing on previous SARS-CoV-2 infection, vaccination status, persistent symptoms, and functional impact. Results: Long COVID was identified in 28.6% of participants, with excessive fatigue (53.5%), musculoskeletal pain, respiratory difficulties, and cognitive complaints being the most common symptoms. Staff with chronic comorbidities or increased exposure risk had significantly higher rates of functional impairment. Fewer reinfections were reported among vaccinated individuals; however, vaccination was not significantly associated with the presence of long COVID symptoms. Older age and comorbidities were correlated with higher risk. Conclusions: The findings underline the need for long-term occupational health strategies and individualized support programs for HCWs affected by long COVID, particularly in high-risk groups. Background/Objective: To assess vulnerable Romanian children’s knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs regarding the HPV vaccination. Methods: Vulnerable children (ethnic minorities, high social vulnerability index, or low socioeconomic status) from three schools in Cluj County, Romania, were enrolled in a short educational presentation regarding HPV and were delivered a physical questionnaire consisting of 26 items. Results: 199 vulnerable school students concluded the questionnaire with a mean age of 14.62. Most participants were unaware of the HPV infection or the HPV vaccine. Following the educational program, most participants exhibited a reasonably elevated level of knowledge, which positively correlated with the intention to vaccinate. Fifty-three per cent of respondents would vaccinate in school if the vaccine were available, fifty-four per cent would vaccinate if the product were free of charge or at minimal cost, and over sixty-four per cent would vaccinate at their doctor’s recommendation. Several knowledge items, beliefs, and attitudes towards vaccination were disclosed to influence children’s preference to participate in vaccination campaigns. Conclusions: This analysis unveiled the pivotal role of knowledge about HPV in the immunization uptake within underserved, vulnerable populations of Romanian children. An intricate interplay between vulnerability, knowledge, accessibility, and the willingness to vaccinate was impacted by several beliefs and attitudes towards HPV vaccination. Most children were willing to participate in HPV immunization campaigns, whether school-based, reimbursed, or at the doctor’s recommendation. These findings act as pillars for assembling future educational campaigns in vulnerable Romanian communities of children, aiming to enhance awareness and coverage of HPV vaccination and ensure inclusive health policies. The Sultanate of Oman boasts remarkable biodiversity, exemplified by such species as the Arabian leopard (Panthera pardus nimr) and the Arabian oryx (Oryx leucoryx), national symbols that highlight the extensive conservation efforts required to protect the country’s natural heritage. During decades, Omani authorities have taken significant measures to safeguard wildlife and preserve the natural environment. A sanctuary dedicated to the reintroduction of the Arabian Oryx, after extinction in nature in 1972, was established in 1980 in the Al Wusta Governorate under the patronage of the Royal Diwan and currently administrated by the recently established Environment Authority. During the almost 40 years since the reintroduction and the creation of the sanctuary, the oryx population has grown slowly but constantly. In 2021, the sanctuary hosted 738 oryx, allowing the start of the reintroduction of the species into the natural environment. Small groups of animals were released into the wild in selected areas. No animal health adverse events were recorded, and mortality was generally due to injuries received as a consequence of fighting, in particular during mating season. Standard veterinary care, including control of internal and external parasites, was regularly provided. In some occasions, immunization against certain diseases, such as clostridial infections, pasteurellosis, or mycoplasmosis, was also applied. In 2023, an FMD outbreak in cattle reported in Dhofar, about 500 km from the Al Wusta sanctuary, motivated specific prophylactic actions to prevent the risk of diffusion to oryx. From December 2023 to January 2024, an immunization program was undertaken using an FMD vaccine against serotypes A, O, and SAT 1, mostly in male oryx, while pregnant oryx were avoided for abortion risk due to handling. The following year, in January 2025, a severe outbreak occurred in oryx herds held in the sanctuary. The rapid onset and the spread of clinical symptoms among animals (100% morbidity in the second day after the first appearance of signs in some individuals) were suggestive of a highly contagious disease. The animals suffered from severe depression and inappetence, rapidly followed by abundant salivation, erosions of the oral mucosa and tongue, and diarrhea, with a short course characterized by prostration and death of the animal in the most severe cases. Therapeutical attempts (administration of antibiotics and rehydration) were mostly ineffective. Laboratory investigations (ELISA and PCR) ruled out contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), Johne’s disease and Peste des petits ruminants (PPR). Both serology and antigen detection showed positiveness to foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Out of a total population of 669 present in the sanctuary at the beginning of the outbreak, 226 (33.78%) oryx died. Despite the vaccinal status, the 38.49% of dead animals resulted being vaccinated against FMD. Taking into account the incalculable value of the species, the outbreak represented a very dangerous event that risked wiping out the decades of conservation efforts. Therefore, all the available means, such as accrued biosecurity and adequate prophylaxis, should be implemented to prevent the recurrence of such health risks. The delicate equilibrium of wild fauna in Oman requires study and support for an effective protection, in line with the national plan “Vision 2040”, targeting the inclusion of the Sultanate within the 20 best virtuous countries for wildlife protection. Background/Objectives: Multidisciplinary approaches spanning the physical, cognitive, and social domains of geriatric evaluation are essential to promote functional well-being and reduce the aversive consequences of aging. The main objective of the pilot study, “Multidomain Interventions to improve the COgnitive and fUNctional well-being of elderly individuals in residential sTructures” (I-COUNT), is to assess the feasibility of a 6-month multidomain intervention performed on older adults in Long-Term Care Facilities (LTCFs), compared with a group of residents following a traditional care approach. Methods: The intervention will involve two LTCFs in Italy and will include physical exercise and cognitive training, administered and monitored using wearable technologies, a nutritional program based on the Mediterranean diet enriched with selected functional foods, and the administration of the vaccinations recommended in the national vaccination plan. The I-COUNT study will assess the feasibility and acceptability of the defined protocol and provide information to determine the sample size for a definitive study. In relation to the potential health impact of multidomain interventions on older people living in LTCFs, the primary outcome will consider the change in microbiota composition assessed 3 months after the start of interventions, while secondary outcomes will include the evaluation of changes in selected biomarkers, physical performance, psychological health, cognitive functioning, and nutritional status at 6- and 9-month follow-up points. Conclusions: The I-COUNT study will allow us to assess the feasibility of delivering a multidomain intervention on elderly people. Exploratory findings on potential health effect will support the development of a larger-scale randomized controlled trial. Trial registration number: ClinicalTrials.gov ID NCT06820710. Full article

Background/Objectives: Influenza represents a significant burden on global public health, and vaccination is the most effective strategy to reduce it. The large investment in vaccination programs and the need for adjustments in vaccine serotypes are important reasons for evaluating the influenza vaccine’s efficacy every year. Establishing a relationship between immunogenicity data and efficacy is also crucial for predicting the efficacy of a vaccine during its development. Antibody response measurement is one of the most common methods for evaluating immunogenicity, particularly in vaccines and biologics. The aim of this systematic review was to define a model that relates the immunogenicity of a given vaccine to its efficacy, based on hemagglutination inhibition titer levels. Methods: To achieve this goal, information was gathered from articles linking immunogenicity with the efficacy of the influenza vaccine in the Medline and Scopus databases. Different mathematical models were developed and applied to assess the relationship between HAI titers and the effectiveness of the flu vaccine. This analysis was conducted for the various existing vaccines, for the different influenza virus strains, and for their efficacy in paediatric populations. Results: The r2 obtained ranged from 0.2579 to 0.966, which points to the importance of this immunological factor in the efficacy of the influenza vaccine. Conclusions: The efficacy values for titer level 40 confirm the validity of the data provided by Hobson. Full article

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the leading cause of cervical cancer, which presents a significant health burden in low- and middle-income settings such as Kosovo, where it is the second leading cause of death among women. HPV vaccines are highly effective and integral to global cervical cancer elimination efforts. In 2024, Kosovo introduced the HPV vaccine into its immunisation schedule via a school-based program targeting sixth-grade girls. Rapid, theory-based insights supported development of a tailored communication and intervention plan ahead of the introduction. Methods: Over a two-week period, qualitative research was conducted with 102 participants, including healthcare professionals, parents, girls in the target age group, school staff, and community influencers. Data collection, analysis, and intervention development were carried out using the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) model, underpinned by the Capability, Opportunity, and Motivation for Behaviour change (COM-B) theoretical framework. Results: Trust in school-based immunisation and healthcare professionals emerged as key drivers, while a predominance of capability- and physical-opportunity-related barriers across target groups underscored the need for targeted communication and capacity-building efforts for all stakeholders. Using the BCW model, communication and intervention activities were developed for implementation by partners. Conclusions: Using rapid insight research grounded in the BCW model enabled the timely identification of behavioural drivers and barriers to HPV vaccine acceptance and supported development of a targeted intervention plan. The findings echoed global research on HPV vaccine introduction, highlighting context-specific needs and enablers and contributing to a successful rollout marked by high uptake within the first six months. Background: The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has been globally implemented to prevent HPV-associated diseases. Since its introduction in China in 2017, this vaccine has substantially reduced the burden of HPV-related health conditions. As more people get vaccinated these days, ongoing safety monitoring and evaluation have become critical. This helps to safeguard public trust in immunization programs and ensures the sustainability of immunization programs. Methods: Suspected adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) associated with HPV vaccination from 2017 to 2024 were extracted from the Chinese National Immunization Information System (CNIIS). Data on the number of HPV vaccine doses given came from the Immunization Planning Information Management System of Anhui Province. Descriptive statistical methods examined the distribution characteristics of AEFIs, and chi-square tests assessed differences in incidence rates. Results: From 2017 to 2024, the vaccine safety surveillance system in Anhui Province monitored a total of 1149 reports of AEFIs associated with the HPV vaccine. The reported overall rate of AEFIs was 16.32 per 100,000 doses. Specifically, the rates of common adverse reactions were 15.15 per 100,000 doses, while the rates for rare adverse reactions were 0.85 per 100,000. Among the common adverse reactions, the incidence rates of injection-site redness and swelling (diameter >5.0 cm), induration (diameter >5.0 cm), and fever (axillary temperature ≥38.6 °C) were 0.60, 0.33, and 1.34 per 100,000 doses, respectively. For rare adverse reactions, the reported incidence rates of allergic rash, allergic urticaria, and aseptic abscess were 0.50, 0.09, and 0.03 per 100,000 doses, respectively. Most AEFIs occurred within 24 h post-vaccination. Conclusions: The overall reported incidence of AEFIs following HPV vaccination in Anhui Province from 2017 to 2024 was low, with serious rare adverse reaction occurring infrequently. These findings suggest that the HPV vaccine has a favorable safety profile. Full article

The term “vaccine” has been broadly and inconsistently applied to a range of products with widely divergent immunological outcomes, leading to the erosion of public trust and confusion among both medical professionals and the public. Historically, and by broad public understanding, a vaccine is expected to prevent infection, transmission, and disease through the induction of sterilizing, or true neutralizing immunity, specifically, the prevention of pathogen entry and replication in vivo. This ideal extends beyond the mere elicitation of neutralizing antibodies demonstrable in vitro. This paper proposes a three-tier classification system designed to differentiate products currently designated as “vaccines,” specifically to address the distinction between those that meet the traditional, highest-expectation definition (Tier 1), therapeutic vaccines that primarily prevent disease (Tier 2), and immunomodulatory therapeutics that primarily reduce disease severity (Tier 3). By detailing the mechanism of action of each product and emphasizing the urgent need for this refined classification, our aim is to restore public confidence in vaccination programs, improve understanding of vaccine-induced immunity among healthcare professionals, and empower informed decision-making by the public. We argue that a clearer understanding of vaccine capabilities will ultimately lead to increased vaccine uptake for those vaccines that do prevent infection, transmission, and disease. Full article

Characteristics of Varicella Breakthrough Cases in Jinhua City, 2016–2024

Background: Varicella remains a prevalent vaccine-preventable disease, but breakthrough infections are increasingly reported. However, long-term, population-based studies investigating the temporal and demographic characteristics of breakthrough varicella remain limited. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed surveillance data from Jinhua City, China, from 2016 to 2024. Varicella case records were obtained from the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention (CISDCP), while vaccination data were retrieved from the Zhejiang Provincial Immunization Program Information System (ISIS). Breakthrough cases were defined as infections occurring more than 42 days after administration of the varicella vaccine. Differences in breakthrough interval were analyzed across subgroups defined by dose, sex, age, population category, and vaccination type. A bivariate cubic regression model was used to assess the combined effect of initial vaccination age and dose interval on the breakthrough interval. Results: Among 28,778 reported varicella cases, 7373 (25.62%) were classified as breakthrough infections, with a significant upward trend over the 9-year period (p < 0.001). Most cases occurred in school-aged children, especially those aged 6–15 years. One-dose recipients consistently showed shorter breakthrough intervals than two-dose recipients (M = 62.10 vs. 120.10 months, p < 0.001). Breakthrough intervals also differed significantly by sex, age group, population category, and vaccination type (p < 0.05). Regression analysis revealed a negative correlation between the initial vaccination age, the dose interval, and the breakthrough interval (R2 = 0.964, p < 0.001), with earlier and closely spaced vaccinations associated with longer protection. Conclusions: The present study demonstrates that a two-dose varicella vaccination schedule, when initiated at an earlier age and administered with a shorter interval between doses, provides more robust and longer-lasting protection. These results offer strong support for incorporating varicella vaccination into China’s National Immunization Program to enhance vaccine coverage and reduce the public health burden associated with breakthrough infections.
