Dear Colleagues,
The oceans harbor a wealth of marine microbial resources. Due to their long-term adaptation to extreme marine environments, marine microorganisms have developed unique ecological adaptation mechanisms and environmental tolerance. They influence the biodiversity, energy flow, and nutrient cycling of marine ecosystems; some marine microorganisms interact with marine animals and plants through parasitic or symbiotic relationships, impacting the health of their hosts. With the advancement of metagenomic sequencing, microbial isolation, and cultivation techniques, the functions and environmental adaptation mechanisms of these marine microorganisms are gradually being understood, leading to the development and application of marine microbial resources. This Special Issue focuses on using genetics, molecular biology, and genomics to reveal the diversity, evolution, adaptability, and physiological ecological functions of marine microorganisms, further exploring their functional and application potential. Contributions are welcome on current challenges, new insights, recent discoveries, and future prospects in the field of marine microbiology.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Genes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
