Generally, my experience guest editing a SI has been good, with steady staff support in particular from the Assistant Editor. I have only one note: often for the sake of speedily finding a reviewer, the manuscript passes through reviewers who do not have an in-depth knowledge of the topic in question and they often do a revision that is too general without deepening the study.

Actually, it already does—see the increasing reputation of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, as demonstrated by its currently pretty high and consistently increasing impact factor.
