Accelerated Carbonation of High-Calcite Wollastonite Tailings
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThe manuscript titled “Accelerated Carbonation of High-Calcite Wollastonite Tailings” deals with the investigation of aqueous carbonation of two wollastonite-rich side stream tailing fractions in comparison to two wollastonite references coming from the same quarry of the above-mentioned samples.
The introduction section reports a sufficient background.
As regard the experimental section, even though all the materials and methods are well-described and detailed, the authors should be clearer concerning the reference to data mentioned in table 2 (see page 2, line 80).
As regard the result and discussion sections, they are deeply argued and well explained and structured.
However (regarding discussion section), there is no clear separation between discussion and conclusion sections, thus the authors must separate them in two paragraphs according to the Journal manuscript guideline for authors.
Other general observations:
-The authors should check all the chemical formula (for example CaSiO3 should be written as CaSiO3 with 3 as subscript);
- in discussion paragraph there are several “@” instead of “at” and some underlined words.
I suggest the publication after minor revisions.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThis paper shows the research results on enhanced carbonation tailings from a calcite mine, with wollastonite as the main carbonation mineral.
The paper is well-written and structured, with a comprehensive state-of-the-art description, a clear methodology and experimental design and a sound discussion of results. The recommendation is to accept the manuscript after some minor changes:
1) Line 24: As not all limestone mining operations worldwide have wollastonite as a side stream, please indicate that this sentence refers to this specific mine.
2) Line 80: Please change “(see Table 2)” by “(see Table 3)”
3) Line 117: “less carbonate heavy than B1” means with less carbonate content than B1? Please express the idea better to avoid confusion.
4) Line 236: same as the previous one, “Si-heavy particles”
5) Line 250: Please use the title “Discussion and conclusions” instead of only “Discussion”.
6) Line 301: “…showing earlier the with tailings...”, please remove “the”
7) Lines 321 and 331: Please check underlined words. Does the underlining have meaning?
8) Line 338: again, “carbonate-heavy tailings”
