We have taken the decision that all manuscripts submitted to Buildings after 5 December 2015 will be reviewed using a double-blind peer-review process. This means that, in addition to authors not knowing the identities of reviewers, during the review process reviewers will not know the identities of the article’s authors.
Double-blind review is more common in the field, and there are indications that it can reduce the effects of unconscious bias, so that reviewers focus solely on the research presented and not the identity of the authors. We believe that a double-blind review process will be more acceptable to scholars and help us to continue publishing robust and original research in Buildings.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the anonymous reviewers who contribute to the peer-review process. Their voluntary contributions, based on their experiences in the field, help us to maintain a high standard in our published papers and underpins our editorial process.
