Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThis article contextualizes transness in popular culture, art, and theory. It begins with an enlightening overview of how transness calls into question the privileging of sight, which is typical of Western cultures and closely related to colonialism and white supremacy. The author aptly notes that an understanding of transness is necessary in today's political climate. The entire article, especially the beginning, at least implicitly situates transness within the framework of the post-structuralist undermining of binary oppositions, stereotypes, and the concept of fixed identity.
In addition, the article describes the work of trans masculine artist and photographer Wynne Neilly, which undermines any concept of a fixed identity that can be determined by sight alone. The photographs included support the argument made by the author.
The article is up-to-date (2023) and is obviously well-researched. It even has an impressive bibliography included in the footnotes.
