Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This is a great manuscript with an important topic. I am not sure if point # 2 is missing information that was meant to be added and was accidentally left out or if there is another explanation. The Materials and Methods subtitle indicates that "The research methods... are presented within this section" but it was not.  If I misunderstood, I would be happy to revise my comments.

Thank you for your very helpful and constructive feedback.

This happened in the editing process (previously it was one section). I have included more details about the research methods on page 3 line 127-130

Reviewer 2 Report

The title as well as the introduction raised expectations about your manuscript and research. The topic you are addressing would be a relevant addition to existing literature. Thank you for this valuable contribution. I will structure my feedback in (a) general remarks (these comments cover feedback applicable in the entire manuscript), and (b) specific remarks (feedback on sentence and/or word level). The specific remarks can include a quote from your original manuscript to refer to a specific section. The specific remarks will refer to page (emphasis added in boldface; e.g., 1.15/16) and row(s; e.g., 11.15/16).

General remarks:

The overall manuscript is neat and written concisely—with relevant information for existing literature. It was pleasant to read. You can make improvement to your manuscript by improvement the quality of writing. In particular, your sentences are rather informal. Keep in mind that academic writing is not similar to presenting the same information in a presentation.

Specific remarks:

p.title              Parent AND child? Or do you mean and/or? In addition, how can you change the title so both parents are included? In terms of inclusivity, you might want to refer to caregivers or guardians? The first sentence of your abstract implies different compositions of family members having ADHD. Do you also include two children with ADHD (but not the parent[s])? This has to be clarified.

p.1.10              Write the numbers up until 20 completely (8 = eight). Also apply this to the remainder of you manuscript as well

p.1.12–15        How did you implement triangulation? You mention that you do it, but you do not specify this. As a result, that sentence is uninformative.

p.1.20              Insert a statement about the implementation of your findings.

p.1.24              Avoid using the verb “to explore” twice in one sentence.

p.1.28              Do not start a sentence with “but”.

p.1.31–35        A paragraph is at least three sentences long.

p.2.50–52        Can you rephrase this into a more formal/academic version?

p.2.56              Here you mention parent(s)/carer(s).

p.2.61/62         But that also means that support from home—as opposed to problems at home—can help individuals to become more resilient in other contexts.

p.2.63/64         Can be written more concisely. In addition, specify the “/”. Does this mean and, or, and/or? Also apply this to the remainder of your manuscript. The letter “o” needs to be deleted, I assume.

p.2.86/69         I would emphasize the lack of causal relationships by inserting a suitable signaling word (e.g., yet or insert “Despite the plethora of research, the ….”).

p.2.78              Are you making use of APA 7? If so, you can use “et al.” after the first authors if three or more authors are listed.

p.2.85/86         This implies that two or more children is also relevant to your story?

p.3.93/94         You need to explain or illustrate what the “/” means.

p.tables           I do not know what reference format you are using, but I cannot imagine these table fitting the one you are using. You seem to be using APA and, if so, adjust the tables accordingly. In addition, the abbreviations in the tables need to be explained in a note under the table.

p.4.134            Your M, SD and N need to be placed in italics. Moreover, if you aren’t discussing the complete sample, you need to replace the capital N with a lower case n.

p.5                   I do not know if the information presented under the table is part of the table, but this is not how you present it.

p.6                   I miss a section about informed consent.

p.references    The doi’s are displayed inconsistently (compare e.g., reference 6 with 18). There should be text in italics. The hyphen between the page numbers should be replaced with an en dash.
