Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Reviewer 2 Report

This is an interesting article that explores the lack of infrastructure in a developing country context. I think it has potential to contribute to the literature given the limited efforts on this context so far.

But here are some general comments that may help improve the article in the next step.

  1. A more careful literature review is needed. As many of the variables and conclusions are actually overlapped with the literature, a review can better indicate how this article has contributed to the extension of literature.
  2. The statistical analytical methods seem to be too simplified. Mean values, S.D.s and ANOVA results do not necessarily lead to concrete implications on any policy making.
  3. Given the many variables considered in the survey such as driving license ownership, there is a need to analyze those variables to provide more information.

Reviewer 3 Report

The manuscript is significant for the journal’s profile, the citizens’ perceptions in relation to transport systems and infrastructures are a very important issue. The study would like to be first approximation of the travel needs of Dominican Republic.

Introduction

I suggest that the Introduction chap. could be more developed based on some scientific literature at international level, projects results, some official reports having in view the citizens’ perceptions in relation to transport systems and infrastructures.

The research objectives should me more developed. For example, the first paragraph from Discussion could be moved to explain better the research objectives.

I suggest adding a new chapter Study-area in which that the transport and infrastructure of Dominican Republic are featured in order that the reader have an ‘image’.

 Materials and Methods

Even the methodology is simplistic one, it is very well developed. However, I suggest adding a table with the respondent’s numbers by provinces or cities.

 Results

It is very interesting to improve the results by adding an analysis by comparing different provinces/cities related to variables used in the study and to explain the factors that determine the differences between them.

 Conclusions

In their current form, the Conclusions look like a report with disparate ideas, they are rather short and inconsistent.

Make sure to discuss your Conclusions in relation to other international studies hypotheses. What can your results be used for? Eg. How can they improve planning in transport and infrastructure

The connection between results and some research projects could also be approached this could lead to an interesting and policy-relevant discussion
