Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper entitled "Oil media on paper: The effect of linseed oils on paper cellulosic paper supports via VOC analysis. A research matter of damage assessment" by Banou and Co. is very interesting work.

The Authors have done a great and interesting job, using many analytical techniques, such as colorimetry, opacity, tensile strength, pH measurements, SEM,  FTIR, and VOC analysis with GC-MS.

The research is well described, with relevant details and data, that may be useful to readers. The paper is well documented and the authors draw good conclusions from their research.

I have a small comment about figure 10 - the caption is on the next page, it looks bad.

It should be emphasized that the work was not funded from external sources. In my opinion, it is very valuable and suitable for publication after the minor editorial correction indicated above.

Author Response

Thank you very much for your positive response to our paper and your comments that are only aimed at the improvement of the paper. We took them into consideration for the revision of the paper.

Respectfully yours,

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript describes a set of techniques (colorimetry, pH, SEM, FTIR, GC-MS, among others) to assess the damage that linseed oil produces on aged paper supports. The manuscript is interesting and it should be suitable for publication after addressing some concerns:

  • Title: Consider to change the title since more techniques than only VOC analysis were performed.
  • Affiliations: Merge identical affiliations
  • Line 49: [8-10]
  • Introduction is brief. Discuss further the state-of-art and previously published papers in this topic. Also, novelty and significance of this work should be highlighted.
  • Lines 65-70: Move to Introduction.
  • Conclusions: Authors should emphasize the significance of the work and how it contributes to knowledge generation.
