Recent Progress in Animal Tumor Viruses Research

Dear Colleagues,

The investigation of the viruses involved in tumoral transformation is currently a cornerstone in cancer research. It is estimated that oncoviruses cause about 12% of tumors. Although a limited number of viruses are currently considered to have oncogenic potential, new evidence of tumor-associated viruses is emerging continuously. The identification of a viral etiology for cancers has several implications: it may provide additional information on tumor development and progression, allowing for the identification of new targets for therapy, leading to the development of screening and prevention strategies. Only via an international collaboration and a community effort is it possible to develop deeper knowledge in such a broad and multidisciplinary field. This Special Issue aims to focus on all aspects related to oncoviruses infections in veterinary medicine. We welcome the submission of original papers and reviews that advance our novel insights into virus-related tumors.
